The University of Dayton News Release
MOCK TRIAL DEMONSTRATION TO BE PRESENTED AT UD
Feb. 19, 1993 Contact: Gretchen Kraas or Rosemary Harty .
DAYTON, Ohio-- A fictional young female lawyer, hired by the non-existent
Hawkeye County, is sexually harassed by another worker who makes suggestive comments
and shows her issues of "Hooters" magazine. Her case, drawn from newspaper headlines,
will be re-enacted by the University of Dayton mock trial team on Wednesday March 3, from
7 to 9 p.m in the Barrett dining room in UD's Kennedy Union. The demonstration is free
and open to the public.
The UD team travels on Feb. 26, 27 and 28 to the National Intercollegiate Mock Trial
Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa, to present the case after winning competitions at the local
and regional levels. They have been working on the case of Ellen Roberts v. Hawkeye
County since September. The creators of the case scenarios, also based in Des Moines, chose
this case because of its relevance today.
The UD mock trial team is advised by Roberta Alexander, a history professor and pre-
law ad¥iser at UD. Lawyers from the Dayton area also helped the team prepare for the
national tournament.
