About Mobility India
Mobility India (MI) is a registered society, established in August 1994, and has been a
progressive force in bringing about a change in the disability, rehabilitation and
development sector with a focus on empowerment, inclusion and participation of
people with disabilities. MI promotes inclusive development work by providing
services related to rehabilitation and assistive technology, education, livelihood, and
social services.
MI's Rehabilitation Research and Training Centre in Bengaluru is a model of disability
friendliness, and spearheads all its activities. MI's Regional Resource Centre in Kolkata
caters to the rehabilitation needs and Inclusive Development Centre in Guwahati,
caters to the relatively backward North-Eastern Region. MI also has field offices in
urban slums of Bangalore, Jigani, Anekal Taluk and Chamarajanagar (Karnataka) and
Garden Reach (Kolkata).
An inclusive and empowered community, where people with disabilities, their
families and other disadvantaged groups, have equal access to education, health,
livelihood and enjoy a good quality of life.

KEY ACTIVITES
Rehabilitation Services
Ü MI's Prosthetic/ Orthotic Services Unit carries out assessments for and fitting of a wide range of affordable and appropriate orthotic & prosthetic devices/ mobility devices
Ü The Physio & Occupational Therapy Services Unit provides therapy services at the centre and home based therapy in its project areas
Ü The Wheelchair service Provision; assesses the physical needs, abilities and lifestyles of individuals who require wheelchairs and arranges appropriately modified units
Ü MI also offers a unique Taxi Service for Wheelchair Users in Bengaluru, giving them greater opportunities to be included in everyday life

Education and Training
MI conducts Education and Training
programmes in areas of assistive
technology, including prosthetics,
orthotics, wheelchairs, rehabilitation
therapy, and community based
rehabilitation and accessibility. Its
courses have affi l iation and
recognitions from Rajiv Gandhi
University of Health Sciences,
Karnataka; Rehabilitation Council of
India, and the International Society
for Prosthetics and Orthotics. Over
the past 12 years, well over 317
students from 25 countries have
trained at MI to become qualified
prosthetics & orthotics technologists
and rehab therapy assistants.

Affiliation & Recognition
Mobility India has received affiliation from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka and recognition from the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, New Delhi and International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics
Community Based Inclusive Programmes
MI has been promoting community-based inclusive development with a multi-sectoral
strategy, with a focus on poverty alleviation and social change for persons with
disabilities, their families and other disadvantaged groups.

MI's CBR programmes covers:
Development and Promotion of Appropriate Technology
MI works towards the design and development of low-cost, light-weight and user-friendly
prosthetic and orthotic components, and mobility aids. Over the years, many of these products
have won national and international acclaim as well as a wider user acceptance. MI also
operates a Jaipur Foot Production Unit managed by women with disabilities.

Capacity Building & Partnerships with Grassroots Organisations
MI supports grassroots organisations in provision of assistive devices, facilitation of access to appropriate assistive technologies and development of such devices and technologies.
The key areas of support include:
Ü Setting up of prosthetic, orthotic & therapy facilities and associated repair & maintenance workshops
Ü Providing direct and mobile workshop services; and
Ü Commissioning of mobile workshops.

MI maintains close linkages with various national and international bodies dealing with disability & rehabilitation, multilateral/ bilateral funding agencies and international NGOs. MI's collaborative activities include:
