It is with great pleasure that I am again visiting Mobile World Congress (MWC) in my capacity as Minister of State for Trade, Investment and Small Business.
I am delighted that this year the UK is, once again, one of the largest country exhibitors at the Congress. Collectively, these companies are part of a vibrant and valuable UK communications sector that is committed to innovation excellence and to expanding their presence in the global market. The UK continues to be the partner of choice for many international companies.
I wish to congratulate the winners of the innovation competition that the Digital Communications Knowledge Transfer Network ran nationally. I understand that the competition received a record number of entries and a high-level judging panel, that included a delegate from an operator and handset company, selected the winning companies– Hypertag; Movirtu; Steepest Ascent,Touch Type and Eseye.
Congratulations also to Alertme, who were selected to feature at MWC by the audience at the Wireless Start-Up Fest. The UK’s two most successful ‘Wireless Clusters’, Cambridge Wireless and Silicon Southwest teamed-up to present this inaugural event in October 2009.
These companies can be found on the UK Technology stand, which is supported by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), in the Avenida and are examples of some of the leading-edge innovation stemming from the UK.
Also featuring on the stand, are the winners from the “Design Out Crime” – Mobile Phone Security Challenge. This initiative from the UK’s Home Office “Alliance Against Crime” and the Design Council brought together designers with technology experts to develop user-led security solutions for mobile phones. You can view demonstrations of the results on the UK Technology stand.
I hope through the Congress and with the support of UKTI you will take forward many new relationships that will foster business both in the UK and internationally.

UK Technology Competition Winners
The Digital Communications Knowledge Transfer Network ran a national competition that looked to identify leading innovation in the sector. The four winning companies have product demonstrations on the UK Technology stand at Mobile World Congress 2010.
In addition, the UK’s two most successful ‘Wireless Clusters’, Cambridge Wireless and Silicon Southwest teamed-up to present the inaugural Wireless Start-Up Fest in October 2009. The audience at this event also selected a company to feature on the UK Technology stand, one that they considered had something world-leading to demonstrate.
