General Information and Setup

Section 2: General Information and Setup

IntroductionThis section of the manual describes thefeatures and controls of the Mobile Linkcellular remote monitoring system. Everyeffort was made to ensure that the informationand instructions in this manual were bothaccurate and current at the time the manualwas written. However, the manufacturerreserves the right to change, alter orotherwise improve this product or manual atany time without prior notice.

DescriptionThe Mobile Link cellular remote monitoringsystem allows generator status and operatinginformation to be monitored from anywherethe owner has access to a cellular network. Inthe United States, Verizon is the cellularnetwork provider. The Mobile Link cellular unitis mounted on the outside of the generatorand communicates with the generator’scontroller via a serial port. After the generator is registered withwww.MobileLinkGen.com, owners can logonto the website to check on the currentstatus of the generator at any time.Registering the generator also enables thesystem to notify the owner of any change inoperating status. The owner will be contacted by e-mail, pushnotifications, or text messages if alarms orwarnings occur. The delivery method andfrequency of these alerts can be adjusted onthe website.NOTE: E-mail and text notifications can bemanaged through the website. Pushnotifications are also available and can bemanaged through the use of the Mobile LinkApp. See Mobile Link Cellular App fordownloading instructions.

Verizon Cellular Network ExtenderIf Verizon cellular coverage is not adequate forcommunication signal strength, a cellularnetwork extender is available through anIASD. Order part number #0L2824. A cellularnetwork extender uses the home's internetconnection to communicate information fromthe generator to the Mobile Link system.

Website Information ScreensThe Mobile Link cellular unit sends messagesto alert the owner when scheduledmaintenance is required on the generator. Thegenerator’s total run hours can be viewed, anda log of completed maintenance can begenerated.Generator exercise time can also be checked and altered, if desired, through www.MobileLinkGen.com.

Mobile Link Cellular Information ScreenSee Figure 2-1 and Figure 2-2. Logging intothe Mobile Link App launches an InformationScreen. The Information Screen displays anoverview of each generator being monitoredby Mobile Link. A picture of the generatorappears on screen against a color-codedbackground (A). Background color indicatesat-a-glance operating status:

• Green: Generator is ready to operate.

• Blue: Generator is currently operating.

• Yellow: Generator requires maintenance, but is otherwise ready to operate.

• Red: Generator has a functional problemand requires immediate service.

• Gray: Generator not connected to Mobile LInk.

If Mobile Link cellular is being used to monitormultiple generators, scroll left and right toselect the desired unit.

An instrument cluster displays total generatorrunning time, time on backup power, time onexercise, battery voltage, and fuel level (dieselunits only).

Verizon Cellular Network Extender InstallationIn the US, if cellular coverage is not adequatefor communication signal strength, a networkextender is available through an IASD.1. Place network extender near the most

centrally located window. For best results, place extender in an elevated locationsuch as the top of a bookshelf or tallcabinet. If already using a Wi-Fi router, keep extender at least 2 feet (61 cm)away.

2. Connect one end of the provided Ethernetcable to an open port on the router andconnect the other end to the WAN portlocated at the rear of the networkextender.

3. Plug the power supply into the 12VDCpower port located at the rear of thenetwork extender and plug the supply intoan available wall outlet.
