Mobile Device Disinfection in Hospitals Allows Kids to be Kids.

The use of mobile devices has expanded dramatically in our society and are now commonplace. Even

the healthcare environment has begun to accept their use. In fact, mobile devices are being utilized

by physicians for instant access to information in clinical settings including decision support tools, new

treatment options, reference materials, and adding documentation into the electronic health record.

Mobile devices offer plenty of benefits to patients as well. Consider a children’s hospital where a

child’s fear of a treatment or entering a CT scanner can be easily distracted with a mobile device.

Instant access to social media enables a teenage patient to stay connected with friends and family.

Mobile devices bring “home” into the hospital where playing games and watching movies helps kids

feel like kids, not patients. Quite often these young patients have highly compromised immune

systems which are extremely susceptible to bacterial and viral infections. Life-threatening

contaminants such as norovirus and C. diff can live on the device and accumulate in the recesses,

enabling pathogens to be easily and unknowingly transmitted from the device to a patient.

PROTECTING CHILDREN

The use of mobile devices

inside the hospital is a

controversial subject as they

are seemingly improving the

quality of healthcare but

they can also transmit HAIs

( healthcare-associated

infections ). Hospitals must

find a solution for properly

and effectively disinfecting

mobile devices to protect

their patients from an

HAI. SKY Disinfection

Technology is the answer.

Mobile device use made easy.

Whether mobile computing devices are owned by your facility or providers and patients bring their

own devices (BYOD) into the healthcare environment, SKY quickly, easily and effectively disinfects iPads,

phones and tablet PCs within seconds to protect children from harmful microorganisms.

SKY’s automated process uses high intensity UVC light at an extremely close proximity to the mobile

device surface to penetrate into the cells of pathogens, viruses, bacteria and spores to break the

DNA strand at the point responsible for cell replication and renders the organism inactive. SKY

achieves 3 to 6 log reduction (99.9% to 99.9999% reduction) in harmful pathogens such as MRSA,

VRE, MDR-gram negative, norovirus and C. diff spores. With SKY, your staff can disinfect mobile

devices as often as required by hospital protocol and in accord with Infection Control and

Environmental Services mandates.

Unique sleeve technology.

Daylight Medical offers specially manufactured sleeves for use with the SKY disinfection device.

SKY sleeves are clear and tightly-fitted to mobile devices, enabling full-touch operation. Simply insert

the device into the double sleeve prior to processing. SKY’s UV light penetrates the sleeve during the

disinfection process, achieving a robustly disinfected inner sleeve and device surface. Within seconds,

the clinician can present the disinfected device to the patient, fully protected in its own inner sleeve.

While used in this sleeve, the device is protected against pathogen accumulation in the recesses

(e.g. speaker, charging jack, earphone inputs, etc.) which reduces the potential for cross contamination,

enabling the device to be safely used with immune-compromised pediatric patients.

The solution is SKY.

Whether a mobile device is used to educate or entertain, it can be a powerful tool in the hospital

environment. SKY ensures mobile devices can be used safely and freely hospital wide, offering

peace of mind to healthcare providers and their patients.
