MOBILECrisis Crisis (315) 782-2327Available 24 hours / 7 days a week

Mobile Crisis Services provides crisis intervention for residents of Je�erson County and Fort Drum soldiers and their dependents’ regardless of age. �e service is �ee and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays.

Services include therapeutic intervention both over the phone and in person (mobile). Clients are connected with appropriate community resources and counselors may assist other agencies and schools in assessing individuals for further services.

Assessment for referral to outpatient and inpatient mental health services, and substance abuse treatment programs is provided. Referral to respite programs is available for children 10-17 and for adults. MCS is one of only two access points for the Children’s respite services.

Workingtogetherhasalwaysbeenimportantifsuccessistobeachievedwithclientsthatcrosssystemsofcare.TLSrecognizesthisandhasbeendevelopingitspartnershipsinorder to ensure that services are availableanddelivered to hard to reachgroupsandindividualsandfamiliesthatdonotcurrentlyhave services available in their localcommunities.OnesuchpartnershipwiththelocalTeenCenterhereinWatertown,ledtoarecommendationfromtheJeffersonCountyYouth Board to approve funding throughOCFSforaLifeSkillsProgramoperatedattheTeenCenter.TLSarelookingforwardtoworkingwithTonyGulloExecutiveDirectoroftheSoZoTeenCenterandtheyoungpeoplethatattendthere.

TLSwasalso selected as the subgranteeto provide Homeless Prevention OutreachSpecialist / Case Management services in

the Tri County area as part of a VeteransHomeless Demonstration Program fundedthrough theVAandHUD.TLSarepleased

to have been chosen tobe part of this excitingproject and be able tofurtherassistourVeteranpopulation and theirfamilies.

Ouragenciesdevelopmentandgrowthhasonlybeenpossiblebecauseoftheflexibility,teamwork and creativity of its staff. I amfortunatetobeabletoworkwithagroupofpeoplesuchasthese.

The Advantage After School Program (AASP)isagrantfundedprogramthroughtheOfficeofChildrenandFamilyServices.Itprovidesqualityyouth opportunities to school-age children ingrades4-8 for threehoursaday,directlyafterschool.

TheAASPoffersabroadrangeofeducational,recreational and culturally age-appropriateactivities. Youth and family involvement inprogramplanningand implementation is a keycomponent.Programsoperatefive-days-a-weekduringregularlyscheduledschooldays.

TheprogramissupportedthroughapartnershipwithHCS, LewisCountySheriff’sDepartment,HarrisvilleFreeLibraryandPlannedParenthoodof the North Country New York. These samegroupsprovidesupport,educationandstaffingtotheenrolledchildren.

The program will offer: homework assistancegivenbyvariousteachers,cookinggroupstaughtby various mentors, sign language taught byKellyDavis,painting(3muralsinthecommunity)andphotographywithRobinRobinson,PEwith

Crystal Kerr-Adams, guitar/piano/voice lessonstaught by LauraAtkinson, and anOutingClubgiven by Dave McIntyre. The Outing Club willincludespecialeventstaughtbyaNYSForester,fly fishing lessons, the building of bird housesandloonnestingareasthatwewilltaketoLakeBonaparte and set up, Geocashing, plantingtrees,gardeningintheSpringandmuchmore.Thestudentswill have theopportunity tosit inonlessonstaughtbyPlannedParenthoodonceaweek.Somelessonsinclude:sexeducationtogrades6-8(studentsdonothavetoparticipate),self esteem, communication skills, gooddecision making, internet/phone safety, stressmanagement,andbullying.OfficerEricSchmittwill come in once a week to discuss DrugAwarenessandothersafetyrelatedissues.Wewillusethepubliclibraryonceeverytwoweeksforabookclub. Other specials brought in at various times oftheschool year include:PeaceCorps,Zumba,Hunters Safety (not on school grounds), andhorse back riding. Specials will invite thecommunityandstudentstojoinusaswell.

TLShasformedapartnershipwiththenewprohockeyteaminAlexandriaBay.The1000IslandsPrivateerswillprovidepositiverolemodelsbyworkingcloselywiththeboysatourchild/youthprogram,allowingthemtoattendtheirpractices,hostinglunches/dinnerswiththem,andhangingoutwiththemattheresidence.TLSdoesasimilaragreementwiththeWatertownWizardsaswell.You

TLS Is Actively Involved In The CommunityCongratulations to Judy Butz of Gouverneur,thewinner of ourminiature house raffle. TLSmaintenance crewhad built the home for theArmed Forces Day Parade and raffled it off

during the JulyBusiness afterHours eventheldatouradministrativeoffices.Nearly200people attended the event despite a heavyrainfilledday.Aspecialthankyoutoourco-sponsors includingStephensMediaGroup,VictoryPromotions,CFMFoods,andBistro108.

InSeptemberwereceivednotificationthatTLShadbeenawardedagrantthroughtheJeffersonCountyYouthBureautofundalifeskillsprogramlinkingTLSandtheWatertownTeenCenter.TheLifeSkillsProgram,whichwillbegin inJanuary2011,willbehousedat theWatertownTeenCenter.TheLifeSkillsProgramisaimedatassistingat-riskyouthages13-18withmakingapositivetransitiontoyoungadulthoodbyenhancingpro-socialandindependentlivingskillsdevelopment, improvingself-esteemandself-awareness,andreducingaggressiveattitudesandbehaviorsinyouth.

About TLSTLSwasincorporatedin1977andin1979beganprovidingservicestoasmallgroupofindividualsrecoveringfromalcoholismin Madrid, New York. By 1989, sevenmore programswere opened, all aimedtohelppeoplewithchronicmentalillnesslive as independently as possible in thecommunityoftheirchoice.Today, TLS programs have expandedto provide community based servicesfor children, families, and communitymembersexperiencingcrisisormanagingchronicconditions.TLShasevolvedsince1979,andcontinuesto evolve in linewith the ever changingneedsofthecommunitiesweserve.TLSis committed to the provision of personcentered, compassionate, dignified caretopeopleandfamiliesaffectedbymentalillness.

Adult Community Residences &ApartmentsTLSprovidesrestorativeservicesin24hoursupervisedcommunityresidencesintheWatertown,Clayton&Gouverneurareas.Allresidencesareco-edandopentoqualifiedindividualswithpsychiatricillnessesaged18andover.TLSalsoserves33adultsin20apartmentlocationsthroughoutWatertownwithintermittentsupervisionbasedonindividualneedand24houron-callservices.CertifiedbyNYSOMH.

Restorative ServicesQualifiedstaffassistindividualstoidentifyareas in which training and supportare needed to enable the individual totransition toamore independent livingsetting in the community. Restorativeservicesinclude:

Assertive&Self-AdvocacyTraining•CommunityIntegration&Resource•DevelopmentDailyLivingSkillsTraining•ParentingTraining•RehabilitationCounseling•SkillDevelopment•Socialization•SubstanceAbuseServices•SymptomManagement•

TLS staff assist residents to access andcoordinateneededservicesinthecommunitysuchasbehavioralhealth,medicalservices,substance abuse services, employmentanddayprogramming. Specializedstaffservicesinclude:Qualified Mental Health Staff

Completes assessments, creates•individualizedplans tomeet residents’needsandwantsandcoordinatescareamongcommunityproviders.

Activities Coordinators Dedicated to planningand conducting•activitiesthatincreasesresidentaccessto and involvement in the communitywhilesupportingtheirindependence.

Life Skills CoachTargeted one-on-one rehabilitation•services to increase independentlivingskillstoassistinthetransitiontoindependentcommunityliving.

Licensed Clinical Social WorkerLCSW provides clinical consultation•andstaffsupport.
