PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
NEWSLETTER TERM 1 WEEK 9
Every Student matters! Every moment counts!
On behalf of the Moama Public School staff I would like to thank all of our community for your patience
and understanding during this current climate around COVID-19.
As stated in correspondence sent out recently we have had many events, incursions and professional
learning opportunities either postponed or cancelled.
We are now in a “Learning from Home” environment of learning. The NSW government have stated that
NSW schools will be open but they are strongly encouraging parents to keep students at home if they are
able to.
As part of this new phase of learning we have sent home hard copy packs of student work for this week
but we will be transitioning to online learning in Term 2.
As we are transitioning into this we are training staff and preparing for the delivery of this style of learning
this week. We have been advised that the style of learning that we expect from students at home
students at school must be completed.
Staff will contact all parents and/or carers on our first day back in Term 2 to set all of this up. They will
send out the usernames and passwords for online platforms such as Mathletics, Study Ladder and Literacy
Planet. We will also invite you to join on online learning community through the SeeSaw app.
It is important too that students, staff and all families have a break during the school holidays.
Please stay safe, stay positive and importantly stay healthy.
Staff Development Days in Terms Two and Three
The first day back (Tuesday April 14) in Term Two will now be a student free day.
Thursday April 30 and Friday May 1 will now be normal school days as the Bridges out of Poverty
professional development sessions for all staff has been cancelled.
The first day back (Monday July 13) in Term 3 will now be a student free day.
GRIP Leadership Day for year 6 students
See inside for some photos of the students undertaking activities at school last week. This was due to the
trip to Bendigo being cancelled due to COVID-19.

HOW TO MONITOR THE SITUATION
There’s a lot of fake news and misinformation about COVID-19 being spread across the internet, so stay alert!
AVOID GETTING CAUGHT UP IN THE HYPE AND FEAR
Select one or two reputable information sources for your news, to avoid false reports and unscientific claims. The major national and state news services provide regular online, television and radio bulletins.
The Department of Health’s coronavirus news alert provides daily updates on cases across Australia and the most up-to-date advice for preventing and responding to COVID-19, including translated resources.
Each state and territory health department also has information on its website:

Moama Public – The Power of Play
Over the last couple of years the school has participated in activities in conjunction with the iPLAY project. iPLAY is a
school-based program conducted by Australian Catholic University and the University of Newcastle, and is funded by the
National Health and Medical Research Council and NSW Department of Education. In 2018 and 2019 our school was se-
lected as a target school for the iPLAY study. Representatives from the university came and spent time with a selected
group of students and monitored their physical activity levels and collected data of physical activity and healthy lifestyle
habits in and outside of school.
iPLAY aims to promote children’s physical activity through implementing a whole-of-school approach. iPLAY involves 6
key components: 1) quality physical education and school sport, 2) classroom movement breaks, 3) physically active
homework, 4) active playgrounds, 5) community physical activity links and 6) parent/caregiver engagement.
To continue our promotion of the importance of physical activity and the commitment to continuing to promote healthy
lifestyle habits for all our students in 2020 we will have information and ideas for promoting physical activity and
fundamental movement skill development in children.
Our first item includes information on the importance of physical activity and the Active Kids Voucher. I hope that you
enjoy the newsletter updates and if you require more information please don’t hesitate to contact me at school.

The Importance of Physical Activity … Let’s Get Active!
Regular physical activity is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Making physical activity a priority and encouraging
good habits in children from an early age is important and can help them to develop the skills they need to be active
throughout their lives.
Why is being active important?
Children benefit greatly from being active as it can:
Promote healthy growth and development
Build strong bones and muscles
Improve movement skills
Improve cardiovascular fitness
Help achieve and maintain a healthy weight
Improve academic achievement
Help relaxation
Provide opportunities to make friends
Improve self-esteem and self-confidence
Children who are not physically active enough will not have the opportunity to gain these benefits and are at an
increased risk of becoming overweight or obese. Being overweight or obese long term can contribute to conditions such
as Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol, and heart disease.
Dance2bfit Online
As most schools now have very low attendance we have
introduced some Dance2bfit online “follow us”
15min routines. Parents can keep their kids moving and
burning some energy at home.
https://www.facebook.com/dance2bfitaus
We will be uploading two dances each week for students to
follow.
Kind regards,
Trent Taylor, Dance2bfit & Challenge2bfit Manager
