Learning Objectives: 1. Students will learn about other new students at Holly Grove.2. Students will identify what they already know about each other and the school.3. Students will identify what they still need to know about Holly Grove.
Materials:
Copies of survey Notecards
Procedure(s):
Ice Breaker: Go around the group and introduce ourselves.o Say your name and a food that starts with the same letter.o Share your favorite sports team or activity to do.
Talk to students about the purpose of the group (to get to know each other, since we are all new to the school and then to learn more about ourselves and Holly Grove in the process).
Talk about confidentiality and what it looks like in a group (that it can’t be guaranteed).
Give students survey (see questions below) to get idea of how much they know about Holly Grove, what they would like to know, etc.
Go around group (using notecards) and answer the question on the card:o How many schools have you gone to, total, counting this one?o Name 1 fun place to go to in your new neighborhood or near it.o Are you a walker, a bus rider, or a car rider?o What is one thing that helped you feel welcome at this school?
Go over info for 2 clubs, then remind them that the next group (once Mrs. Oliver has tallied survey results) will give them more information on the different clubs and groups.
o The Positive Attitudes Will Succeed (PAWS) program affords the Lady Bulldogs an opportunity to develop skills that will help them gain new friendships, be mentored by positive female high school students and staff members, develop positive self talk and serve as mentors to elementary students.
o Books, Bowties, and Bulldogs club.o TEACH Club (give out handout to any students interested)
Plan for Evaluation: How will each of the following be collected?
Process Data: Take attendance so can document which students came to the group.
Perception Data: Students will complete survey below about what they know about the school, how they like it, etc.

Procedure(s):
Icebreaker: Picnic activity “My name is Mrs. Oliver, and I’m going on a picnic and taking oranges” [students will go around and say their name, what they would take, and also what the others in the group said]
Review of norms: o This is a fun and safe place to be.o If someone is talking, we listen.o If Mrs. Oliver asks you to be quiet or do something, please respect her.o Respect each other!
Club Information: Go through handout on the different types of clubs, how to sign up for them or audition, and who the sponsor is.
“Who am I?” Activityo Students will complete the “Who am I?” activity which gets them thinking about
what makes them who they are o Includes items such as race, culture, favorite foods, things you enjoy doing, etc.o Students will share and talk about how they are similar and different afterwards
Processing/Closing: Students will summarize some of the new things they learned about each other. They will name one way they are all similar and one way they are all different.
Plan for Evaluation: How will each of the following be collected?
Process Data: This will be the 2nd of 4 sessions, and 4 students are expected to attend in each session.
Perception Data: Students will rank before the group meeting and after the group meeting how well they think they know each other.
