ACP’s Legislative UpdatesUpdated 8/22/2016Good morning all!!

Independent Community Pharmacies continue to be popular with consumers according to the latest J. D. Power survey. CEO Douglas Hoey of NCPA stated “the nearly 15,000 consumers who participated in the survey identified independent community pharmacies as leaders in criteria such as cost competitiveness and customer service from pharmacists and pharmacy staff. People are treated like family at independent community pharmacies, and it’s encouraging to see this affirmed in this national survey.”

Direct and Indirect Remuneration (DIR) continues to be a severe impact on Mutual pharmacies across Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina as well as across the nation. ACP, NCPA as well as other pharmacy organizations continue to contact in person and through phone calls and emails members of Congress about this problem. They are explaining the devastating consequences, which will result if this problem is not corrected. These members of Congress must act quickly and decisively in directing CMS to write regulations that will prevent PBMs from using independent pharmacy as their scapegoat in their required fees to CMS. ACP urges you to continue to contact your member of Congress and urge him/her to contact CMS. Attached are letters sent to CMS by members of Congress in this effort (pages 13 and 14). These letters will be a good indication of how these members approached the issue as you contact your member of Congress.

As you all know, it is election season. Now is the time to be contacting and supporting your candidate of choice. There is no better time to talk with your candidate about pharmacy and the issues of pharmacy. Most incumbents and candidates know very little about pharmacy and you are the expert. Take time to go to a function and spend a few minutes talking to the candidate about pharmacy issues and let him/her know you are available to talk about any pharmacy or healthcare issue at any time help is needed. These candidates will appreciate your knowledge and expertise and the fact that you are willing to help with an issue of which they have very little knowledge. Time is passing quickly and it is the responsibility of all pharmacists to make their candidate fully aware of pharmacy issues before the election in November.

Shire US, Inc. is initiating a voluntary recall, to the retail level, one lot of VYVANSE 30mg capsules.

Shire is taking this action because a Pharmacist reported that a stock bottle (100 count) of VYVANSE® 30mg capsules contained an Ivabradine 5mg tablet along with the expected VYVANSE® 30mg capsules. This voluntary action is limited to one VYVANSE® product lot and is intended to minimize the likelihood of adverse health consequences.
