RSL EARNS ROAD POINT IN DALLAS

Real Salt Lake (9-9-4, 31 points) played to a 0-0 draw with FC Dallas on Saturday night in front of 14,747 fans in Frisco, Texas.

GK Nick Rimando earned career shutout 150 in draw at FC Dallas, his 114th in an RSL uniform.

Postgame quotes from RSL v FCD.

Through the first 20 minutes of the match, RSL held 53% of the possession and forced FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez into several saves to begin the match. RSL’s best chance of the opening 45 minutes fell to DF Marcelo Silva but his header in first half stoppage time saw a flying save from Gonzalez deny the headed effort.

In the 56th minute, FW Corey Baird saw a chance fall squarely to his feet in the penalty area but his strong effort at goal was met with a reaction save again from Gonzalez as RSL continued to apply pressure. A sturdy RSL backline held firm throughout the second half, limiting the host’s opportunities as the match came to a close in a scoreless draw with both sides taking a point on the night.

    2019 LEAGUES CUP RECAP

Real Salt Lake bowed out of the inaugural 2019 Leagues Cup after falling to Liga MX side Tigres UANL on Wednesday in a 1-0 scoreline.

RSL equaled the three shots on goal from Tigres and had several near-misses, hitting the post twice and having two other opportunities thwarted by offside flags. GK Nick Rimando finished the night with two saves, but a deflected long-range shot in the second half proved to be the difference.

Postgame quote sheet from RSL v UANL.

A scoreless first half saw the two sides trading possession in the middle of the park and opportunities for an opening goal. RSL got its first real opportunity through FW Jefferson Savarino early on after creating a chance that was blocked out by Tigres GK Nahuel Guzmán. Tigres UANL responded with quick counter-attacks in the remainder of the half, putting the RSL defense to the test, but Rimando and the backline answered the call to keep the game without a goal. RSL rounded out the first half with a headed chance from MF Damir Kreilach that was snagged out of the air by Guzmán.

To open up the second half, Kreilach found the back of the net after taking a shot from a distance, but the goal was ultimately called back for an offside call. Plata nearly found the back of the net again for RSL but his shot rebounded off the post and WAS cleared by the Tigres defense. It was Tigres UANL that struck first as Enner Valencia hit the ball back to Eduardo Vargas, whose lifted shot from distance went over the backline to find the back of the net. Late in the match, after a high boot, referee John Pitta gave DF Brooks Lennon a yellow

card, but after VAR review, changed the card to red leaving RSL with 10 men for the last five minutes.

Ultimately, Real Salt Lake could not find the equalizing goal in the second half, leading to an early exit from the inaugural Leagues Cup tournament.

    RSL DRAWS WITH MINNESOTA

SANDY, Utah (Saturday, July 20, 2019) – Real Salt Lake (9-9-3, 30 points) came back from a second-half deficit to earn a 1-1 draw with Minnesota United FC at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday night as DF Marcelo Silva notched RSL’s lone goal on the night. marking his second goal of the 2019 season.

Postgame Quotes from RSL v MIN.

The first half of action saw a physical match play out as both sides planted physical tackles on one another. Minnesota had the best opportunity of the first 45 minutes, forcing GK Nick Rimando into an acrobatic save just minutes before the halftime whistle, preserving the 0-0 scoreline at the break.

In the 58th minute of the match, the Loons found the breakthrough when Darwin Quintero was left alone at the back post to redirect an easy header into the back of the net. RSL answered back in the 70th minute when Silva fired home his second goal of the year with a cool side volley inside the penalty area. A frantic finish to the match saw MNUFC nearly steal the full three points when Jan Gregus slammed a curling shot off of the goal’s upright in the 88th minute. In stoppage time, set pieces earned by both sides capped the evening as the teams shared the spoils on the night.

lead. To finish off the night for the young Venezuelan, Savarino was able to recover the ball from a Philadelphia Union defender with a cheeky back-heel pass to Albert Rusnák in the 81st minute for the third goal of the night. Real Salt Lake would go on to score one more goal to finish off the Union.

    RSL DISMANTLES PHILADELPHIA

Real Salt Lake (9-9-2, 29 points, 7 West) dismantled the Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Union 4-0 on Saturday night, marking the second consecutive home match where RSL did not concede a goal.

FW Jefferson Savarino netted his third career brace while MF Albert Rusnák and MF Damir Kreilach put away a goal each to secure the three points while GK Nick Rimando notched his fifth shutout of the season.

Postgame Quotes from RSL v PHI.

From the outset, RSL sought the early lead in the match and found its goal in the 23rd minute when Savarino fielded a wonderful ball from DF Aaron Herrera in the attacking third before volleying home the opening goal inside the box. A physical first half of play saw four yellow cards given, three of which were given to RSL as the teams entered the locker room with the Utah side leading 1-0.

Early in the second half, RSL saw two chances to score go begging as a header from DF Justen Glad was saved well by Union goalkeeper Andre Blake on the line before Kreilach hit the cross bar with a header of his own in the 56th minute. RSL found its second goal in the 72nd minute when Savarino earned the brace after firing a rocket into the far post to generate the separation late in the match. Philadelphia nearly pulled one back in the 78th minute after Union forward Andrew Wooten volleyed a shot into the back of the net but after a video review, the goal was disallowed for having gone out of play before the volley. RSL tallied its third when Savarino won the ball back with a clever back-heel to Rusnák, who took one touch to smash in past Blake. Kreilach notched the fourth goal of the night after slipping through the gaps in the Union defense to meet MF Everton Luiz’s pass and putting away the final goal.

DAVID OCHOA NAMED TO 2019 HOMEGROWN ROSTER

Real Salt Lake GK David Ochoa has been named to the MLS Homegrown Team for the 2019 MLS Homegrown Game presented by Energizer. The roster features some of Major League Soccer’s brightest young talents who will take on the Chivas de Guadalajara U-20s in the sixth annual MLS Homegrown Game presented by Energizer on Tuesday, July 30 at 3 p.m. MT at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex outside Orlando, Florida.

“This is a great opportunity for David. He continues to show progress and it’s great that the league is recognizing him for his work,” Real Salt Lake Head Coach Mike Petke said. “After already playing in the U20 World Cup this is a good chance for him to gain experience and showcase himself.”

Ochoa, 18, signed with RSL prior to the 2019 season. He made his professional debut in 2018 with the Real Monarchs as an Academy call-up on April 22, 2018 and has since made nine starts in 2019 for the club in USL Championship. This season he has a 4-3-2 record with three shutouts and a 1.44 GAA, including a shutout win over New Mexico United on Saturday.

“It’s a bit surprising, but I’m really happy and excited to be a part of a special group of the best Homegrowns in the league,” Ochoa said. “It’s a great platform and it’s great to see that I’m on the same path as the other RSL players that have had the opportunity to play in the Homegrown Game.”

In addition to his success at the club level, he was also a key contributor for the U.S. U-20 National Team in its run to the quarterfinals of the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland, playing in two matches in the tournament. He helped the U.S. contingent qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, earning shutouts in both matches he appeared in, including a 1-0 shutout of Honduras in the CONCACAF Championship semifinal round.

In previous years, Real Salt Lake has had DF Carlos Salcedo, DF Justen Glad, DF Danilo Acosta, MF Jordan Allen, DF Phanuel Kavita, DF Brooks Lennon, MF Jose Hernandez, DF Aaron Herrera and FW Sebastian Saucedo named to the roster for the Homegrown Game. Ochoa is the first of RSL’s 10 representatives in the MLS Homegrown Game to have played at the Zions Bank Real Academy in Herriman, Utah.

This year’s team, to be coached by Orlando City SC Academy Director Marcelo Neveleff, features some of the league’s most accomplished young stars. The Homegrown Team is highlighted by five players who helped the United States to a record third straight quarterfinals appearance at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup including Ochoa, defender Aboubacar Keita (Columbus Crew SC), FC Dallas midfielders Edwin Cerrillo and Brandon Servania, and forward Justin Rennicks (New England Revolution). Sporting Kansas City midfielder Gianluca Busio, who could represent the United States at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in September, joins the Homegrown Team after becoming the youngest player in league history to score in three straight matches earlier this season.

Orlando City SC forward Benji Michel will represent his hometown at the Homegrown Game, another accolade after receiving his first call to the United States U-23 team in June. Joining Michel from the U.S. U-23 camp on the Homegrown Team is Philadelphia Union 18-year-old midfielder Brendan Aaronson, who has emerged as a regular starter for the top team in the Eastern Conference this season.

Representing Canada at the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup and on the Homegrown Team is Toronto FC 18-year-old midfielder Noble Okello. Okello was also one of four players on the Homegrown roster to play for Canada’s U-20 team at the Concacaf U-20 Championship including forwards Theo Bair (Vancouver Whitecaps FC) and Mathieu Choinière (Montreal Impact), and defender Daniel Kinumbe (Montreal Impact).

Joining a list of formidable opponents to participate in the MLS Homegrown Game, Chivas de Guadalajara’s Under-20 team brings an accomplished track record to the match. The club captured the Liga MX Clausura 2019 Under-20 title and features numerous players that have received time with both the Chivas reserve squad and the first team side that has captured three titles over the previous three years. The Chivas U-20 traveling roster will be named at a later date.

Orlando City SC Academy Director Marcelo Neveleff will serve as the head coach for the Homegrown Team against Chivas. Neveleff previously served as the first team assistant coach for the New England Revolution and was part of the staff to coach the United States at the 2017 Concacaf U-20 Championship.

    RIMANDO REACHES 500 REGULAR SEASON

    MATCHES

Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando joined an elite club of one on July 6 when he started and played in his 500th regular season match in Major League Soccer becoming the first player in league history to do so.

After a standout collegiate career at UCLA, Rimando began his professional career in 2000 when he joined the Miami Fusion where he featured in 47 matches. After the 2001 season, Rimando was traded to D.C. United where his career really started to generate a buzz and pick up steam. Rimando spent from 2002-2006 in the nation’s capital where he helped United claim its fourth MLS Cup crown in 2004. While with D.C. United, Rimando made 98 appearances en route to elevating his career.

In December of 2006, Rimando was traded to RSL before being traded to the New York Red Bulls the following February. In a quick turn of events, Rimando was then traded back to the Utah side after the sudden retirement of Scott Garlick who at the time, was the club’s first choice goalkeeper. From then, Rimando made his stamp on Major League Soccer beginning in 2007. In total, he has amassed an astounding 355 appearances for RSL, including an MLS Cup title and MLS Cup MVP recognition in 2009, eight MLS All-Star selections from 2010 to 2019 and selection to the U.S. Men’s National Team’s 2014 FIFA World Cup squad for the tournament in Brazil.

Rimando’s full list of career accomplishments by the numbers is as follows:

MLS Cup Champion: 2004 (D.C. United), 2009 (RSL)

    MLS Cup MVP: 2009 (RSL)

MLS Supporters Shield Winner: 2001 (Miami Fusion), 2006 (D.C. United)

    MLS All-Star: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2019 (RSL)

2014 FIFA World Cup: United States

CONCACAF Gold Cup Winner: 2013 (United States)

    MLS Games: 501

    MLS Wins: 216

    MLS Shutouts: 149

    MLS Saves: 1667

To put into perspective how distant from the rest of the players in MLS he actually is, Rimando currently sits 24 appearances ahead of the closest active player in MLS who just happens to be RSL captain Kyle Beckerman who currently sits at 476 career appearances. The closest goalkeeper – although no longer active – is Kevin Hartman, who finished his illustrious career with 416 regular season appearances. The closest active goalkeeper in MLS is Seattle’s Stefan Frei who owns 265 appearances which would take him seven full seasons, without missing a match to merely equal Rimando’s milestone.

For more perspective as if you needed any more, the next two highest active goalkeepers are Frei and NYCFC’s Sean Johnson. Combined, Frei and

Johnson have appeared in 518 career matches, but trail Rimando in wins 215 to 200, shutouts 148 to 131 and saves 1,667 to 1,647.

Prior to the 2019 season, Rimando announced that the season would be his last and he would be hanging up his boots after an incredible 20-year career. In 2019, Rimando has featured in 15 matches to earn four shutouts. With 15 regular season matches still to play for RSL this season, the opportunity presents itself for Rimando to continue to raise the milestone bar and possibly add to the list of team accomplishments that he has without a doubt, been an integral cornerstone for Real Salt Lake.

RSL FALLS LATE IN SAN JOSE

Real Salt Lake (8-9-2, 26 points) fell late to the San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 on Saturday night at Avaya Stadium. San Jose striker Danny Hoesen found the game’s lone goal in the 93rd minute to down RSL on the night.

Postgame Quotes from SJ v RSL

The first half of action saw both sides trade chances but neither team could find the back of the net, although both goalkeepers were tested with no clear sights at goal. The best chance came in the 31st minute, but MF Damir Kreilach missed just wide with his header and the match went into halftime knotted at 0-0.

The second half saw RSL generate the more dangerous chances. MF Nick Besler nearly found the go-ahead goal in the 64th minute, but his shot with the outside of his foot just skipped past the far post. The Quakes found the winning goal in second-half stoppage time when Danny Hoesen tapped home an easy goal inside the six-yard box to claim the 1-0 win.

    ANOTHER SHUTOUT, ANOTHER WIN

Real Salt Lake (8-8-2, 26 points, 6 West) extended its regular-season home undefeated streak to four matches with a 1-0 victory over Columbus Crew SC on Saturday night.

Postgame quotes from RSL v CLB.

FW Sam Johnson netted his third goal in two matches to secure the three points in front of 19,030 fans at Rio Tinto Stadium.

RSL nearly found the opening goal in the 32nd minute when MF Damir Kreilach’s shot from inside the area looked destined for the top corner, but Crew SC defender Alex Crognale stood firm near the post to generate the goal-line clearance. Just six minutes later, Johnson found his eighth goal of the season when he volleyed home a breakaway effort in the 38th minute with an assist from DF Aaron Herrera. The goal would prove to be the deciding factor in the match.

A heated second half saw both teams hammering for goal with RSL getting off several close chances. In the 59th minute, MF Albert Rusnák missed the second goal of the night by mere inches as his shot met the right post. RIMANDO NAMED TO 2019 MLS ALL-STAR ROSTER

Real Salt Lake GK Nick Rimando has been named to the 2019 AT&T MLS All-Star roster by MLS Commissioner Don Garber. Rimando will join the biggest stars in Major League Soccer at the annual summer event for the eighth time, as the MLS All-Stars take on Spanish giants Atlètico Madrid at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida, on July 31. “I’m honored and, to be honest, very surprised to be selected with the class of this year’s All-Star team. To be selected amongst the quality of goalkeepers that showcased their craft through the first part of the season is very humbling,” Rimando said. “I’m especially grateful to Commissioner Don Garber, who could have chosen any one of the many stars in our league. To get the recognition from him is very meaningful to me. Some say I deserve the recognition, I say thank you. I will represent my club, teammates, family, friends and fans to the best of my ability and will cherish every little bit of my last All-Star game.” Rimando earned All-Star selections in seven consecutive seasons from 2010-2016. Now in his final season after announcing at the beginning of the season that he would retire after his 20th season in MLS and 13th with Real Salt Lake, he was selected as one of Garber’s two picks for the All-Star team. Rimando, 40, is Major League Soccer’s all-time leader in wins (213), shutouts (146), games played (497) and saves (1662). In addition, he won MLS Cup in 2004 with D.C. United and 2009 with Real Salt Lake, earning MLS Cup MVP honors for Utah’s first professional sports championship. “For someone who owns virtually every statistical goalkeeping record in MLS History, it’s only logical that Nick is a part of the 2019 MLS All Star Game,” RSL Head Coach Mike Petke said. “From 2000-2019 his body of work speaks for itself.” The MLS All-Stars will take on Spanish club Atlètico Madrid on July 31 at 6 p.m. MT at Exploria Staduim in Orlando, Florida, in a match that will be televised live on FS1, UniMás, UDN, TSN, and RDS. The impressive collection of MLS stars will face Atlético Madrid, whose ten La Liga championships rank among the top three in Spain. The iconic club has won 30 trophies across all competitions, including Europa League in 2018, and finished second in La Liga in 2019.

One minute later, Savarino missed high on a shot from just outside the box. In the 69th minute, he was subbed out, but neither team was able to break the stalemate and match ended in a 0-0 draw.

SAVARINO STUNNER GIVES RSL THIRD CONSECUTIVE WIN

Real Salt Lake (6-6-1, 19 points) toppled the defending MLS Cup Champions Atlanta United for its third consecutive win courtesy of a stoppage time stunner from MF Jefferson Savarino. RSL also saw a first half strike from MF Sebastian Saucedo coupled with a strong defensive effort to pick up its sixth win of the 2019 season. Throughout the first half, RSL played the aggressor and nearly found the opening goal when Savarino’s deflected shot in the 20th minute nearly found the net but glanced off the post. RSL found its breakthrough in the 36th minute when Saucedo fired a curling effort from distance that found the bottom corner of Brad Guzan’s net for his second goal in as many weeks. After several second-half opportunities Atlanta United broke through RSL’s defense for the equalizer with a sliding effort from Josef Martinez to find the back of the net for the Five Stripes, leveling the score. With the clock dwindling down, RSL once again played the aggressor, pestering United’s defense and goalkeeper with shot after shot. Finally, in the closing seconds of the game Savarino found the ball from the feet of MF Everton Luiz. Savarino then raced toe to toe with several Atlanta defenders before pulling back and launching the ball from deep outside the 18-yard-box into the upper left corner of goal for the win.

In the 58th minute, RSL nearly found its third goal when it caught Toronto on its heels, seeing a quick freekick from MF Albert Rusnák find Saucedo inside the penalty area, but his second goal wasn’t to be as his shot clattered off the upright and out. Just two minutes later, MF Jefferson Savarino found the third goal, skipping past a defender inside the box to easily tuck the ball home.

    A ROCKY MOUNTAIN VICTORY

Real Salt Lake (4-6-1, 13 points) got two early goals, but needed a second-half goal and some late defensive stops to preserve a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rapids in the first match of the Rocky Mountain Cup at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Saturday.

MF Albert Rusnák, FW Corey Baird and FW Sam Johnson each scored and GK Andrew Putnahad a second-half PK save for one of his three saves on the night to preserve the victory.

Dominating the first half of play, RSL found two quick goals midway through the half when Rusnák put away his fifth goal of the year in the 26th minute on a penalty before Baird’s clever breakaway effort doubled RSL’s lead just one minute later.

Colorado pressed for its first goal and found it in second-half stoppage time when Kellyn Acosta fired home a botched RSL clearance to bring the halftime score to 2-1.

The Rapids came out flying into the second half carrying momentum from the first half to draw level in the 47th minute when Danny Wilson scored on an empty net after a corner kick. RSL fought back almost immediately however, finding its third goal of the night when Johnson roofed his shot from six yards out. In the 59th minute, Putna was faced with his toughest task of the night that he was equal to, stopping Kei Kamara’s penalty kick to keep RSL’s 3-2 lead intact and Salt Lake held on for the win.

    THREE TEAMS, THREE WINS

For the first time in club history, every professional team in the Real Salt Lake organization secured a victory over its opponents during the weekend of April 19-20.

The weekend began with RSL visiting 2019 MLS expansion side FC Cincinnati for the first time on Friday night to open the weekend’s proceedings. RSL claimed a dominant 3-0 victory in Ohio to win its first match away from Rio Tinto Stadium on the year, seeing two goals from Albert Rusnák with Sam Johnson adding a third and a shutout performance from Andrew Putna solidify the victory.

In the second match of the weekend, Real Monarchs SLC rebounded from its worst loss of the season with a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind win over San Antonio FC. The match marked the first time since 2016 that the Monarchs had topped San Antonio. The match didn’t come easy as the Monarchs fell behind 2-0 in the early stages of the match before clawing its way back in the second half, scoring three unanswered goals. The Monarchs found goals from Maikel Chang, Jack Blake and Kyle Coffee to secure victory.

In 2018 the club welcomed Utah Royals FC to the family, joining RSL, Real Monarchs SLC and the RSL Academy, setting forth the opportunity for all three teams to potentially assert its dominance on the American soccer landscape in any given weekend. Although the Utah Hattrick didn’t happen in URFC’s first year, its first match of the 2019 season saw the team top

the Washington Spirit 1-0 behind a goal from Lo’eau LaBonta and a shutout by Nicole Barnhart to lock in the club’s three wins.

The Utah Hattrick has nearly happened on several occasions but with some teams playing in the middle of the week and some at the weekend, the true hattrick had yet to be completed.

Both teams will return to action this weekend in an effort to secure another three victories beginning with the Monarchs who will face off with 2019 USL Championship expansion side Austin Bold FC on Friday at 6:30p MT. Utah Royals FC are on the road on Saturday as it faces the Orlando Pride on Saturday at 5:30p MT, followed by RSL who will do battle with the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday at 6:00p MT.

In its 14th season in Major League Soccer, RSL found its way back to the playoffs for the tenth time in twelve seasons. Using a core mix of young RSL Academy Products and veteran presence, the club was able to amass a run to the Western Conference Semifinal after finishing the regular season sixth in the Western Conference.

RSL ended the 2018 regular season with the most minutes played by Homegrown players, totaling 10,826 minutes. Led by reigning AT&T MLS Rookie of the Year Corey Baird, RSL made its mark on the league landscape by showing success can be achieved by finding the right mix of veteran players and young talent grown through the Academy.

RSL finished the regular season with a 14-13-7 (49 points) record in Mike Petke’s first full season in charge of the club. RSL entered the playoffs on the back of 7-7-3 run over the last half of the season. RSL was led by Damir Kreilach who scored 12 goals and added 8 assists during the regular season before adding another three goals and one assist in the playoffs. The club’s 11-2-4 (35 points) home record from the regular season helped propel them into the playoffs. The club’s home record finished tied with Portland for the best home record in the Western Conference.

Second-year MF Albert Rusnák made significant impacts in nearly every match he featured in for the club in 2018, scoring 10 goals while providing seven assists in the regular season before notching another goal in Leg 1 of the Western Conference Semifinal against SKC. In 2018, MF Jefferson Savarino started and played in 32 matches for RSL in his second season in Utah, Savarino scored seven goals and provided 11 assists in 2,853 minutes. Savarino was recognized on MLS’s 22Under22 List at #5. DF Brooks Lennon made the move from forward to right back in the absence of DF Tony Beltran – as the steady defender was out the entire season after suffering a knee injury late in the 2017 season. Lennon filled in admirably and started in 31 matches in the right back position, contributing five assists while steadily improving on the defensive side of the ball throughout the year, earning the RSL Academy product the club’s Defensive Player of the Year honors.

On the opposite side, DF Aaron Herrera stepped into the left back role and provided stability over the final 14 matches of the season. The rookie out of the University of New Mexico and another RSL Academy product moved from his typical right back spot to the left side and nailed down the starting role, seeing RSL to a 4-1-4 record in his first nine starts at the position.

DF Justen Glad was a consistent presence in the middle of the back line, partnering most often with veteran DF Marcelo Silva and MLS debutant DF Nick Besler, who captained the USL’s Real Monarchs SLC to the USL Regular Season Championship in 2017. For his part, Glad was second in MLS with 92 interceptions and fourth in the league with 27 blocks. All the while, he started in 50 consecutive matches, the active leading streak when it came to an end on October 18.

GK Nick Rimando, meanwhile, turned in another stellar season, starting in 33 matches while posting a 13-13-7 record with seven shutouts and a

1.73 goals against average. The MLS all-time goalkeeping leader extended his career marks to 209 wins and 144 shutouts while stopping two more penalties to give him an astounding 24 PK saves in his illustrious career.

at the helm after leading the club to the Western Conference Semifinals a season ago. Petke led RSL to a Western Conference best 11-2-4 home record in 2018 to help usher the club to a 14-13-7 (49 points) overall record a season ago. Heading into the 2019 season, Petke now owns a 27-25-11 (92 points) record in regular season play with RSL.

Together with General Manager Craig Waibel, Petke has helped lead the way in “playing your kids” with 12 RSL Academy products currently featuring on the RSL roster. Petke has helped lead a veteran core of MLS legends such as Kyle Beckerman, Nick Rimando and Tony Beltran mixed with some of the league’s top Homegrown talent that made a significant run in the MLS Cup playoffs a season ago. Prior to his time at RSL, Petke was head coach of the New York Red Bulls for two seasons in 2013 and 2014. He led the Red Bulls to their first Supporters' Shield in 2013 and took the team to the Eastern Conference Championship in 2014. As a player, Petke – a hard-nosed defender – made 307 MLS appearances for the Red Bulls/MetroStars, D.C. United and Colorado Rapids across 13 seasons in the league, earning two US national team caps along the way.

    GENERAL MANAGER CRAIG WAIBEL

In the midst of a busy off-season, Real Salt Lake retained General Manager Craig Waibel with a new multi-year contract. Real Salt Lake has reached the postseason in two of the last three seasons since Waibel’s first full season in the role of General Manager and has increased the club’s win total in each season since his appointment as GM in 2015

Waibel originally came to Real Salt Lake to join the coaching staff prior to the 2014 season and saw a meteoric rise in the years that followed. After his first season, he was promoted to Technical Director and then General Manager and under his guidance, Real Salt Lake made the playoffs in 2016 and 2018.

Over the last four years, RSL has seen an increase in player development, with six products of the Real Salt Lake Academy seeing significant playing time in the 2018 season. Over the course of the season, RSL Homegrown players accounted for 10,826 minutes in the regular season, most of any team in Major League Soccer. Earlier this year, two of those players, DF Justen Glad and FW Corey Baird, received call-ups to the U.S. National Team January camp and Baird started in friendlies against Panama and Costa Rica – picking up an assist in his international debut against Panama. Baird also was voted 2018 AT&T MLS Rookie of the Year, the first RSL player in club history to achieve that honor.

Additionally, RSL has had young players representing the club in the annual MLS 24-Under-24 list each year. In 2015, FW Joao Plata was ranked No. 9.

In 2016, Glad (15) and DF/FW Jordan Allen (16) were both on the list. Then in 2017, Glad (18) was joined by newcomers MF Albert Rusnák (15) and FW Jefferson Savarino (22). This year, the list was reduced to 22-Under-22 and RSL had three players on the list – Savarino (5), Glad (9) and DF Brooks Lennon (15), who earned RSL Defender of the Year honors in his first season as a right back in 2018.

In total, RSL has signed 12 Homegrown players in the last four years, continuing the club’s philosophy of developing players from within the organization. Along with Rusnák and Savarino last year, other key international additions have included MF Damir Kreilach in 2018 and DF Marcelo Silva in 2017, while the club has high hopes for DF Nedum Onuoha as well. Rusnák has been the club’s leader in goals and assists over the last two seasons, winning club MVP and Golden Boot honors in 2017. In 2018, Kreilach stepped into the lineup and earned club MVP and Golden Boot honors.

Prior to his work with Real Salt Lake, Waibel had a decorated 12-year playing career. In his time with the LA Galaxy, San Jose Earthquakes and Houston Dynamo, the hard-nosed defender won four MLS Cup titles, one

Supporters’ Shield and one Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championship. His four MLS Cup titles ranks tied for fourth in MLS history, trailing only Landon Donovan, Jeff Agoos, Todd Dunivant and Brian Mullan.

ALBERT RUSNÁK & JEFFERSON SAVARINO RETURN

Albert Rusnák returns to RSL for the 2019 season, signing a contract extension that will see him remain with the club through the 2021 season.

The Slovakian star, 24, made 61 appearances in two seasons with the club, scoring 17 goals and adding 21 assists. In 2018, Rusnák was RSL’s second top-scorer, scoring 10 goals during the regular season while adding seven assists. A rising star in Major League Soccer, Rusnák has also been a key contributor on the international stage for Slovakia. He had two goals in six caps at the U-19 level, then notched four goals in 10 appearances at the U-21 level. In 2016, he made his debut for the Slovakia National Team and boasts one cap to his credit, with many more expected to come. Starting and playing in 32 matches for RSL in his second season in Utah, Jefferson Savarino scored seven goals and provided 11 assists in 2,853 minutes. Savarino was recognized on MLS’s 22Under22 List at #5. Savarino has 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 matches in the Venezuelan Primera Division and has also added one goal in four matches in this year's Copa Libertadores, featuring the top teams from around South America. He was promoted from Zulia's U-20 team to the first team in January of 2015, at age 18.

INFLUX OF RSL YOUTH In 2018, RSL set the standard in Major League Soccer for products of its Academy playing in regular season and playoff matches. In total, 10,826 minutes were played by RSL Academy products, topping the charts for the most minutes played by any team. RSL currently boasts 12 Academy products on its roster with that number rising from a season ago with the addition of Julian Vazquez, Luis Arriaga, Erik Holt, Tate Schmitt and David Ochoa, along with the reacquaintance of Donny Toia.

TONY BELTRAN AND LUKE MULHOLLAND RE-SIGN

From 2014-2017, Luke Mulholland averaged 30 games, 24 starts, 2,073 minutes, four goals and 3.75 assists per season. In 2018, he was limited to just two appearances after a hamstring strain and back surgery kept him on the sideline for much of the season. Now back and ready to contribute in 2019, he enters his sixth MLS season – all with Real Salt Lake – ready to again be a steady contributor in the midfield. Originally acquired by RSL prior to the 2014 season after a wildly successful stint with the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the former NASL, the determined midfielder has spent his entire Major League Soccer career as a member of RSL. Since 2014, Mulholland has appeared in 122 matches, 97 of which were starts. Mulholland has notched 16 goals and 16 assists through 8,384 regular season minutes during his time with RSL. The Preston, England native has also seen time in the MLS Cup Playoffs in three of his five seasons at RSL, totaling 346 minutes in five postseason appearances, including two games for RSL in its run to the Western Conference Semifinals in 2018. In constructing the roster for the 2019 season, Real Salt Lake was able to add a two-time MLS All-Star and 2009 MLS Cup champion in 12-year veteran Tony Beltran. While Beltran had been with RSL for all of his 11 MLS seasons, his return for a 12th season was like a new addition on the field, as he missed the entire 2018 season after suffering an ACL injury on October 15, 2017.

Originally selected by Real Salt Lake with the third overall pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft, Beltran has spent his entire career with RSL. Since making his debut in
