WAN Connectivity Issues
• Availability of terrestrial Internet connections is not guaranteed
• Speed of mobile satellite services is low, even in streaming mode
• Coverage of cellular and wireless networks is limited and throughput is not guaranteed
• Coverage and availability of VSAT systems is also limited
• Network switching and dynamic routing solutions are difficult to implement for many users

WAN Support: - Inmarsat BGAN - VSAT - Mobile Networks (3G/4G, TETRA) - Fixed IP Networks
MLG-X Functions
• VPN Gateway
• Monitoring of WAN connections (availability and bandwidth usage)
• Automatic switching between WAN connections depending on availability (backup routing)
• Bonding of up to 8 WAN connections
• Load Balancing
• IP Traffic Filtering depending on WAN type
• IP Traffic Prioritisation within VPN tunnel
VPN Modes
• OpenVPN:
– Standard authentication mechanisms
– TLS based encryption (DES/AES up to 256 Bit)
– Slow connection setup via satellite
• IP Tunneling (UDP Encapsulation):
– No encryption (requires external encryption)
– Immediate connection setup via satellite
– Very small overhead
– Supports Bonding and Load Balancing
Technical Features
• Embedded Linux OS
• User configurable traffic filters and priorities
• Automatic traffic identification
• Various control functions for outbound IP traffic
• UDP based tunneling with large packet fragmentation
• Aggregate throughput up to 5 Mbit/s
• Firmware update via LAN and WAN interfaces
• Support of dynamic WAN IP addresses
• Web interface for WAN configuration and link monitoring
• Automatic transmission of link alarm messages by email
MLG-X Applications
• Corporate / Maritime:
– Secure WAN connections (VPN) with traffic control
– Transparent backup routing (terrestrial/satellite)
– Virtual multi-site networks with increased availability and throughput
• Media:
– News contribution/live streaming with higher bandwidth
• Government / Military:
– Hybrid network connectivity (satellite, radio, fixed)
– Double-hop connectivity for large number of remote sites via BGAN
