MLC Inflation Plus – Conservative Portfolio

The MLC Inflation Plus – Conservative Portfolio is an actively managed portfolio that aims to deliver a return of 3.5% pa above inflation (before deducting fees and tax) over three year periods, despite market ups and downs.

We aim to deliver a smoother pattern of returns than the market, and especially to limit exposure to large losses, by carefully controlling risk. This is done mainly through the portfolio’s flexible asset allocation, which we adjust as markets change, and by investing in a very broad range of assets and strategies.

Features and benefits

• Above-inflation return objective: Actively managed to target a return above inflation, rather than simply relying on market performance for returns. As you have greater certainty about the returns you’ll achieve, you can plan your financial future more confidently.

• Experience and track record: The ‘inflation plus’ approach has been used successfully by us since 2005, a period that included the global financial crisis. And the portfolio is designed and managed using our market-leading investment process, including our Investment Futures Framework.

• Focus on risk management: We aim to achieve the target return by carefully managing risk, particularly the risk of big losses that can set back your investment. This also helps smooth the returns of the portfolio.

• Flexible asset allocation: As markets change, we adjust the mix of assets in the portfolio so it’s better positioned to deliver returns and manage risk.

• Extensive diversification: We invest in a very wide range of mainstream assets (like shares, bonds and cash) and alternative assets and strategies. This gives us many ways to achieve returns and manage risk. The portfolio also benefits from the insights of specialist investment managers from all over the world.
