LOCATION OVERVIEW

The Village of Bradley is centrally located in Kankakee County, approximately 55 minutes south of Chicago. It is a principal city of the Kankakee–Bradley Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Kankakee County. The county is also part of the larger Chicago–Naperville–Michigan City, IL-IN-WI Combined Statistical Area. The population was 15,871 in 2012.

It is readily accessible via several major roadways, including Interstate 57, Illinois Route 50 and U.S. Routes 45 and 52. Train service is available in nearby Kankakee. Metra rail service to Chicago requires travel to various communities further north.

Bradley was incorporated in 1892. The original business district situated on Broadway Street and Kennedy Drive, and is surrounded by older residential housing. Most of he new commercial development is occurring at the north edge of the Village near the Interstate 57 interchange with Illinois Route 50 (Kinzie Avenue). There are several industrial districts and a number of smaller commercial districts in the Village.

Three public elementary schools are located within the Village boundary, as is Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School. Olivet Nazarene University is also within a short distance of the Village boundary, in Bourbonnais.

A number of large employers are also located in Bourbonnais Township, which encompasses Bradley, Bourbonnais and a portion of Kankakee. International corporations include Centeon, Bunge, Peddinghaus and Van Leer. National corporations include Crown Cork and Seal, Cigna, Birmingham Steel and CBI Services.

Recreational facilities in the are include golf courses in Bourbonnais and nearby Manteno. A campground is located just west of Bourbonnais. The Kankakee river State Park is located in the northwest portion of Bourbonnais Township. Shopping and dining facilities include those around Northfield Square Mall on the north side of town.
