h Several contractors met in Jefferson City before the Convention to review legislative issues facing our industry, followed by personal visits with their State Representatives and Senators.

h Friday night included a full exhibit hall, followed by the most successful auction we’ve ever held with proceeds going to our Memorial Scholarship.

On December 9 & 10, 2015, Missouri LICA participated in the 5th Annual Damage Prevention Summit held at the

Ozark Empire Fairgrounds in Springfield, MO. More than 1,500 contractors took advantage of the free safety training

sessions, as well as the heavy equipment displays, exhibitors, door prize drawing, live trench collapse rescue, "flying

t-shirts," and much, much more. Paul Teutul Jr.'s appearance on the 811 motorcycle was hailed with a tremendous

pyrotechnics show, after which he stayed to take pictures and sign autographs. Once again, Missouri LICA hosted

the equipment rodeo, offering contenders a chance to show their skills and win some cash! We want to offer our

very special "Thank You" to the Missouri LICA member Larry LaFollette for being our point man, as well as to

Missouri Common Ground Alliance and all its volunteers for making this year's Summit the best so far!

Employers may provide their employees with varioustypes of paid or unpaid leave as part of their overallcompensation packages, including vacation time,personal leave and sick leave.

Employers have some flexibility when it comes toestablishing or negotiating employee leave policies.However, federal laws such as the Family and Medicalleave Act (FMLA) require covered employers to provideemployees with leave in certain situations.

In addition to federal leave laws, Missouri has employeeleave laws regarding:

• Voting leave; and

• Jury duty leave.

This Employment Law Summary includes a chart thatprovides a high-level overview of Missouri’s employeeleave laws, and suggests compliance steps foremployers.

Missouri Employee Leave Laws - Overview

Source: Zywave

Type of Leave Requirements

Voting Leave

Employers must allow employees three hours of paid leave to vote on an election day, ifthe employees applied for leave prior to election day. Leave is not available if anemployee’s work schedule provides three consecutive hours of non-working time whenthe polls are open. Employers may specify the hours employees may take leave to vote.

Jury Duty Leave

Employees are entitled to leave to respond to a jury summons, participate in the juryselection process and serve on a jury, without any retaliatory adverse action by theiremployers. Employers may not require employees to use annual, vacation, personal orsick leave for any time spent responding to a jury summons, including serving on a jury.

COMPLIANCE STEPS

It is important for Missouri employers to understandwhen their employees are entitled to take time off fromwork, and the legal protections associated with suchleaves. Employers that violate state or federal leavelaw requirements may be subject to governmentinvestigations, fines, employee lawsuits and significantpenalties, fees and damage awards.

To minimize these risks, employers should reviewapplicable federal and state leave law requirementsand determine whether they have any compliancegaps to correct. This compliance review may becomplex, especially in areas where federal and stateleave laws overlap.

As part of the compliance review, employers shouldconfirm that:

• Employee handbooks, written policies, and procedures have been updated to accurately describe employee leaves;

• Human resources personnel, as well as managers and supervisors, are educated on how to administer employee leaves and receive ongoing training;

• Employee leaves are administered on a consistent basis, and employees are educated on leave rights and requirements;

• Recordkeeping systems accurately track and document employee leaves; and

• Required notices and posters regarding leave laws are provided.
