Currently trailing Great Falls by a full game in the second-half standings, the Mustangs enter Friday thoroughly entrenched in the pennant race for the second postseason brith from the North Division. On the mound, Billings limps into the set with Missoula having surrendered double-digit run totals to Idaho Falls in three of their four games at Melaleuca Field. Last night, Billings was routed 17-2, following up a 15-9 loss from Wednesday night. On the mound, the Osprey hand the ball to right-hander Edgar Martinez, who is scheduled to start for the third time since being promoted from the AZL. In his first stint with Missoula, the Mexican- born 20-year-old pitched 4.0 one-hit innings in relief against Billings on June 20 en route to his first win of the year. Hoping to stop their proverbial bleeding, Billings is scheduled to hand the ball to left-hander Packy Naughton, a ninth-rounder from Virginia Tech, who has offered the Mustangs a nice boost in 2017 after moving into the starting rotation. ABOUT LAST NIGHT Between three pitchers, the Osprey allowed five homers to Grand Junction and stumbled to a series split after winning the first two installments of the four-game tilt. Brady Muller tossed six innings for the O’s but was tagged with his league-leading seventh loss. In the losing effort, eight different Missoula hitters recorded at least one base hit, led by center fielder Eduardo Diaz, who matched his career-high with four. KINGS OF THE NORTH With a 19-19 record, the Osprey won the first-half division title over Billings by .5 game. Their .500 winning percentage is the lowest mark to ever win a Pioneer League division and matches the lowest win total (2008 Billings | 19-17 | 2nd Half). WE BE EATON’ With Gabriel Maciel ranking second in the Pioneer League with a .370 batting average, the outfielder enters the final 26 games of the season with a chance to become the first Osprey to claim a batting title since Adam Eaton did so in 2010, hitting .385. WE’RE GOING STREAKING Entering Friday, Osprey hitters own the three longest hitting streaks in the league during the 2017 season. Joey Rose (21 games) possess the longest streak, which was snapped a week ago, passing the title of “longest active streak” to Andy Yerzy, who has hit safely in 17 straight games. Sandwiched between Rose and Yerzy is Gabriel Maciel, who maintained an 18-game streak until it was snapped on August 3. Maciel’s 18-gamer was the second-longest hitting streak in the Pioneer League in 2017. RETURNING NORTH After going 11-17 against the South Division, the first-half North Division Champion Osprey return to divisional play for the final 23 games of the regular season. Missoula has posted a mark of 13-12 against their divisional foes, with all 25 games coming before the All-Star Break. LEAVING DONG CITY With the Osprey taking to the road after a seven-game home stand, they’ll look to keep the ball in the park away from home at Billings. During their four-game series with the Grand Junction Rockies, the Osprey were hammered for 16 home runs, including a season-high-tying 5 in the finale on Thursday. In their series against the Rockies, Casey Golden joined Helena outfielder Jose Gomez as the only two opponents to hit 4 homers in a series against the Osprey this year. With their 73 home runs allowed as a pitching staff, the Osprey have given up 11 more long balls than any other pitching staff in the league (Grand Junction - 62). 2017 Notes• Infielder player begins his first professional season after being drafted from Junior College national champion Chipola

College in the 7th round this year.Career Notes

• Originally from Panama, Jose Caballero attended junior college in the United States at Chipola College in Florida. • A member of Chipola’s 2017 NJCAA Championship squad, Caballero anchored the club’s middle infield by swinging the

bat at a .401 clip with 15 home runs, 63 RBI, and 22 stolen bases as a sophomore. • While he was drafted as a shortstop, the early projection from Scouting Director Deric Ladnier is that

Caballero could eventually flip across the diamond to become a strong-hitting second baseman. • His mix of contact and power couple with his agility and straight-line foot speed to make him an intriguing

prospect going forward. • In his two seasons playing for one of the premiere junior college programs in the country, Caballero hit .369

with 27 home runs, 111 RBI, and 50 stolen bases in 64 attempts.
