How many times have you heard it said, “There’s nothing to do around here”?
We respectfully disagree. There’s plenty to do
in these parts, though it may not be as obvious or as easy to fi nd as in an urban center. Not to worry; Mississippi is still a magical place. The state is blessed with beautiful countryside, diverse parks and small towns, each a treasure chest of delights.
To help you explore this place we call home, we’ve created this publication, Destinations.
While we couldn’t agree more with the proverb, “It’s the journey, not the destination,” we think the destinations included in this guide offer the basis for memorable journeys.
And there is so much to see along the way.Head south toward the river to Natchez and Port
Gibson. There you will fi nd yourself in a world steeped in antebellum history and garlanded with Spanish moss. The ruins of Windsor outside of Port Gibson and the incomparable mansions of Natchez are not to be missed.
Descend from the hills into Greenwood, one of the gateways to the Delta, that mythical land that spawned the blues. There explore the rich tapestry of a downtown that contains a luxury boutique hotel, antique shops and juke joints.
Go north to Corinth with its charming town square and Civil War battlefi eld, or to Holly Springs, home to Strawberry Plains National Audubon Sanctuary and the Kate Freeman Clark Art Gallery.
Four towns in the Golden Triangle area, Columbus, Starkville, West Point and Macon, are each distinct and worthy of walkabouts. All have charming, historic downtowns with fi ne dining. And all have grand homes, vestiges of the day when cotton was king.
We’re glad you’ve chosen this area as a destination. We think this place is very special. We hope you will use this guide to see why.

Where will you use your camper,
motorhome or trailer? How about one of the over 1,000
river or lake sites within an hour’s drive of Columbus or maybe a ball game, fi shing trip, stock car race, family get-togethers, slumber party (your backyard), shopping trip out of town, visiting friends or relatives or sleeping in your own home away from home? P.S. You don’t have to travel thousands of miles to enjoy your RV. But it is wonderful to go to Yellowstone or places like that.
We have a great selection of these units available for you, at affordable prices. The fun starts when you drive if off or pull it home. Our towable units start at around $10,000 and you can go as high as $60,000. Our motor homes start at $29,000 and go to $160,000. We offer fi nancing on most units with as little as 10% down, with approved
credit and up to 15 years to pay. Come see us and make a great deal with any of the sales people. Jim Kellum, Melvin Easley or Glenn Hopper will be glad to assist you in your selection. And yes, we do take trades and have a great selection of pre-owned to pick from.
Winnebago Motorhomes, Salem, Rockwood, Cruiser, Sierra, VCross, Big Horn, and Sundance are just a few of the name brand trailers that we carry. Lots to choose from with more arriving daily. We have been in business since 1974 and are still family-owned and operated.

Located on the Mississippi River and Big Black River, the land around Port Gibson has been endowed with natural bounty that attracts hunters and outdoorsmen. Great homes date back to the early 1800s and historic markers tell of history at every turn.
Port Gibson is also known as the “City of Churches,” seven of which are on Church Street. In addition to churchs, visitors often explore the Ruins of Windsor and Wintergreen Cemetery.
Also of interest is Grand Gulf Military Park. The 450 acre park is a Civil War Battlefi eld with two fortifi cations, picnic area, hiking trails, observation tower, museum, cemetery and RV and tent camping.
The Shaifer House and Alcorn State University’s Oakland Memorial Chapel are also popular stops. Exhibits commemorating the struggle for civil rights, photos from the past and locally made folk quilts by master quilters can be found in the city.
