Executive Summary 3

Mosaic Groups 11

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF FERNANDINA BEACH MISSION STUDY REPORT 2020/21

Executive Summary In the past six years, First Presbyterian Church (FPC) has had stable membership (830) with slight-ly declining worship attendance over the same pe-riod of time.

FPC is the only Presbyterian Church under the PC(USA) in Nassau County.  The majority of our members live within 10 miles of the church (89%).   The area is divided into two main sections: Amelia Island (on island) and Yulee (mainland) with Yulee having 50% larger population than Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island.

The FPC Households are distributed across this area in a similar manner: Amelia Island (66%), Yulee (23%) and elsewhere greater than 10 miles (11%).

Amelia Island and Yulee areas have significantly different demographic and consumer profiles.  Both areas are mostly white (~85%), with on-island areas having slightly more racial diversity and more income diversity.  Amelia Island average age is old-

er, wealthier, more likely retired, and better edu-cated, but has significant low income areas.  Con-sumer patterns (as per Mosaic Groups) are differ-ent when comparing Amelia Island versus Yulee; indicating differences in preferences and attitudes that may impact church membership and atten-dance. The church membership reflects the demo-graphic profile of the residents of Amelia Island, while off-island residence tends to be represented on-island.

Amelia Island is more than a ‘retirement communi-ty’ with only 32% of heads of household being re-tired; off island retirement profile is slightly less.  The on-island community includes large numbers of families with children and people in a wide range of ages and stages of life.

A detailed review of the demographics, which can be found in the following pages, is summarized in tabu-lar format with commentary.

Mosaic Groups

‘Mosaic Groups’ were developed by Experian credit reporting company to categorize people by consumer behavior. MissionInsite identifies membership by their Mosaic Groups. Mosaic Groups are given descriptive names that allow readers to imagine the de-mographic profile of the group. A detailed description and full explanation of Mosaic Groups can be accessed by clicking here (PDF weblink).
