From the Pastor

Dear Parishioners,

October 31st, commonly called Halloween, is so-called because it is “all-hallows

evening” or the evening of all (the) hallows (the holy ones), the Saints. We start the

month of November with the saints who remind us that Christ is our hope during

this earthly pilgrimage to our heavenly home. The readings this month will also

focus on the end times in light of our eternal destination. The saints are a good

example of how we might better prepare for our own death by the way that we

live our life. Death is not the end, but a transition. The Catechism of the Catholic

Church #1020 states: “The Christian who unites his own death to that of Jesus

views it as a step towards him and an entrance into everlasting life.” Let us follow

the example of the saints who united their lives to Christ by seeking and following

His will.

Let us also pray for the Holy Souls in Purgatory who have died in the state of

grace but who are still imperfectly purified. They are certain of entering Heaven,

but first must be purified “to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of

heaven.”(Catechism # 1030). The Holy Souls cannot help themselves because

for them the night has come, when no man can work (John 9:4). It is our great

privilege of being members of the Body of Christ that we can shorten their time of

separation from God by our prayers, good works, and, especially the Holy Sacrifice

of the Mass. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine

upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

Friday, November 1, 2019, is a Holy Day of Obligation

All Souls Novena: A novena of Masses will begin on All Souls Day in

remembrance of our faithful departed. Novena envelopes are available in the

foyer of the church.

In Christ,

Fr. Guadagnoli, Pastor

Daylight saving time ends on the first Sunday in November, November 3, 2019,

when clocks are moved back an hour at 2 a.m. local daylight time (so they will then

read 1 a.m. local standard time).

A Big Thank You to all who have been praying during this time in the aftermath

of the tornado that struck on Sunday October 20. Many hearts, efforts, and

chainsaws united to help those who were affected by the storm. Thank you,

St. Monica, for your big heart!

peregrinación terrenal a nuestro hogar celestial.
