PSR and Youth

We are praying and practicing positive thoughts that PSR will resume as normal here at St. Mark’s. Online registration for the fall PSR classes (P-7) and Confirmation classes (8th graders) can be accessed at https://stmarklancaster.com/y.

Register your child(ren) early, especially for Confirmation and First Communion ages; we need to line up meetings with parents for both Sacraments and engage service projects for the Confirmation Candidates. Call Debra Kaminski at 740-653-1229 if you have questions or wish to enroll by phone.

We are also thinking positive thoughts about next season’s volunteers! It is Catholic Church policy that anyone who volunteers with children MUST complete a Protecting God’s Children (PGC) class and have a completed background check on file. This includes those on our grounds who will be involved with Scouts, as a Catechist, as a PSR room volunteer, homeschool teacher or helper, as kitchen servers for youth projects, babysitters, baseball coaches, or any area where children are present.

NOTE: If you have already completed PGC, you do not need to reapply. There is no charge to you for either the background check or the PGC class.

• The background check requires getting paperwork from Theresa Brunney (in the office) and then going to the BMV for fingerprinting.

• You must register for the Protecting God’s Children class. Spiritual Babies Month 6:Our spiritual babies are now at 6 months. Their oil and sweat glands are functioning, helping to regulate their body temperatures. Their bodies are now covered with a biofilm covering that protects their delicate skin from the amniotic fluid. Their lungs are fairly well developed, and they would have a good chance of survival if they were born at this time. Please pray for these babies and pray for their parent’s peace of mind to know that the life they have created is God’s will. At this time, I want to ask that you also pray for all families expecting little ones during the COVID-19 outbreak. Thank you! God bless!!

St. Laurence Patron Saint of Poverty • August 10Laurence was an archdeacon in the third century when Christianity was against the law. In 258, Pope Sixtus was in prison awaiting his death, and Laurence was left as the highest-ranking official in the Roman Church. Knowing his own martyrdom was imminent, Laurence gave away all of the wealth and possessions of the Church so that the authorities could not benefit from them if he were to be slaughtered along with the other officials. Laurence was captured and told to deliver the riches of the Church. He showed up with the sick, lame and indigent and told his captors that these people were the complete wealth of the Church. The strong patron of the poor was put to death that same day.

Prayer to St. Laurence St. Laurence, you know the true meaning of wealth. You saw riches that resided within people and not the money in their pockets. I ask you to pray, St. Laurence, that we are saved from poverty. Let greed recede from our hearts and show us the bounty of love instead of money. St. Laurence, I beseech your humble prayers. Amen.
