4Cougar Pride 2013 Membership Guide

Thank you for your generous involvement with Houston Athletics through your membership in Cougar Pride. You play a critical role in the development and success of our student-athletes as your support directly improves the lives of these extraordinary men and women in the classroom, in competition and in our community.

What a great year this has been at the University of Houston! With your support, we were able to begin building and renovating first class facilities for our Tier One athletics program. Building creates excitement and opportunity. The opportunity created here at Houston with your support is unprecedented. We are continuing to build our program’s national reputation; at the same time, we are developing our student-athletes into “Champions for Life”. They are learning the commitment, values, work ethic and team cohesiveness that it takes to be truly successful.

We always ask our student-athletes to give “110%” effort as they represent you and Houston Athletics. Just as we ask our student-athletes for maximum effort, we also ask each of our nearly 2,500 Cougar Pride members to join the “110 % Club”. By giving 10% more than you did in 2012, you will help us achieve our overall goal of $3.5 million.

It is a great time to be a Coog! This is a very exciting time for Houston Athletics and we need you now more than ever. Together, we can build an amazing future for our department and our student-athletes. We appreciate you and your generosity, passion and investment in our future.

GO COOGS!

7Cougar Pride 2013 Membership Guide

Last year, nearly 2,500 dedicated members assisted Cougar Pride in offsetting the cost of athletic scholarships for more than 350 student-athletes who are pursuing their college degrees at the University of Houston.

The annual cost per full scholarship to educate these men and women for the 2013-14 year is more than $20,000 and on the rise. Cougar Pride’s long term goal is to fully fund all Houston student-athlete scholarships on an annual basis. Despite Cougar Pride reaching its 2012 fundraising goals with an all-time annual fundraising record of over $3.1 million, it still fell short by approximately $2.2 million of fully funding the financial aid of all Houston student-athletes. To offset 2013-14 scholarship costs of over $6 million, the Cougar Pride fundraising goal is $3.5 million in 2013.

Houston Athletics will begin the process of seating the new football stadium prior to its completion date of August 2014. Seat allocation in the new stadium will be based off of your 2013 Cougar Pride donation, if you had 2013 football season tickets, any football stadium pledge and the Cougar Pride Priority Point system. These components will have a direct impact on your season ticket allocation priority for the 2014 football season. Please refer to the 2014 Season Ticket Seat Selection Plan below and the Cougar Pride Priority Points information on page 25.

*Full details of the seating process for 2014 will be released in July with the full 2014 pricing structure.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP:

The cost of providing an education for our student-athletes continues to escalate. Cougar Pride is committed to offsetting the costs of tuition, fees, books and room and board for each student-athlete who receives athletics aid from the University of Houston.

Houston Athletics moves into the newly formed American Athletic Conference for the 2013-14 academic year. Just as our teams compete in a new conference and against heightened competition, we need everyone giving 110% to help take Houston Athletics to the next level.

With the cost of scholarships on the rise, Cougar Pride’s goals are continuing to increase as well. Houston Athletics’ scholarship costs in 2013 are over $6 million and our Cougar Pride fundraising goal has increased to $3.5 million from $3 million in 2012. Cougar Pride surpassed its 2012 goal with a record setting $3.1 million raised for scholarships.

The “Refer a Coog” Campaign is an incentivized referral program with the goal of adding 1,000 new members by the end of 2013 and setting its sights on a total of 5,000 total members by 2014.

We encourage ALL current Cougar Pride members to participate in the campaign by simply signing up new members to Cougar Pride (at least $100). If each current member successfully enrolls one new Cougar Pride member in 2013, membership goals will be reached a year in advance! Those who sign up new members will earn benefits such as bonus priority points and special game-day recognition, as well as a special gift from Cougar Pride and access to exclusive Cougar Pride events.

In addition, current Cougar Pride members that refer a new member will receive not only their own Cougar Pride priority points, but also (1) one bonus priority point per $100 for their referred member’s gift as well. Seating for the 2014 football season will be determined based on the Cougar Pride Priority Point System so the more members referred, the higher you move up to select your seats for the inaugural season at the brand new Houston Football Stadium!

Example: • Houston Smith makes a $1,000 gift. – Houston Smith receives 40 Cougar Pride Priority Points. • Houston Smith refers Paul Cougar to Cougar Pride. • Paul Cougar makes a $1,000 gift. – Paul Cougar receives 40 Cougar Pride Priority Points. • Houston Smith receives 10 Cougar Pride Bonus Points as credit for Paul Cougar’s donation. • Houston Smith receives a total of 50 Cougar Pride Priority Points.

Houston student-athletes need your support more than ever and with your help, we will reach our goal of $3.5 million for 2013! Current Cougar Pride members can “Refer a Coog” several different ways. Please find the referral form on the last page (page 33) of this online brochure which can be filled out and returned to Cougar Pride to officially refer a new member. You can also call Cougar Pride at 713-743-GOUH (4684) or email [email protected] with proper contact information.

Corbin J. Robertson Society ($20,000+) - The Corbin J. Robertson Society is committed to underwriting the current cost of one full athletic scholarship. The current cost of educating one Houston student-athlete has increased to over $20,000 for the 2013-14 academic year. In order for Houston Athletics to continue to meet the needs of annual academic scholarship expenses for our student-athletes, this society has increased its membership level from $19,000 to $20,000 for this year.

*Legend’s Club: ($15,000-$19,999) - Houston Athletics always continues to challenge our student-athletes to reach new heights. Several step by step programs have been implemented for Houston student-athletes to more easily and efficiently reach their goals in the classroom, in the community and in competition. Cougar Pride’s long term goal is to fully fund all Houston student-athletes scholarships on an annual basis and continue growing the membership of the Corbin J. Robertson Society. The Legend’s Club will provide an easier step for Cougar Pride members to increase their support to the Corbin J. Robertson level. The Legend’s Club ($15,000-$19,999) will fall between the Commissioner’s Circle ($10,000-$14,999) and the Corbin J. Robertson Society ($20,000+). Check out the benefits of the Legend’s Club in the benefits chart on the next page.

Commissioner’s Circle ($10,000-$14,999) - The Commissioner’s Circle remains one of Cougar Pride’s most important membership levels. Contributors at this level will see a small change in the giving level from ($9,500-$18,999) in 2012 to ($10,000-$14,999) in 2013.

Director’s Circle ($5,000-$9,999) - The Director’s Circle is one of Cougar Pride’s most impactful giving levels. The change in this level is reflective of the variation of the Commissioner’s Circle. Contributors at this level will see a small change in the giving level from ($5,000-$9,499) in 2012.

Captain’s Club ($350-$499) - Houston football’s priority seating donation ($250 per 4 seats) has remained the same since the Cougars returned to Robertson Stadium from the Astrodome in 1998. The priority seating pricing has not historically reflected the substantial tuition increases at the University of Houston since 1998. The current cost of a fully funded scholarship is now over $20,000! The increased funds will help support all Houston Athletics programs. This, in turn, enhances the experience for all Houston student-athletes.

Varsity Club ($100-$349) - Each and every gift to Cougar Pride is incredibly important to Houston Athletics and each student-athlete. The change in this level is reflective of the variation of the Captain’s Club. The Varsity Club was ($100-$249) in 2012.

14Cougar Pride 2013 Membership Guide

How will my annual gift to Cougar Pride affect my parking for the 2013 season while playing home games at three different venues?

• 2013 Cougar Pride donors at the Captain’s Club ($350-$499) or above, receive one (1) complimentary priority parking pass for four (4) Houston Football home games at Reliant Stadium.

• A comprehensive parking plan for the 2013 season will be released once information is available to Cougar Pride.

Where will my priority pass allow me to park at Reliant Stadium? • A Cougar Pride Priority Parking Pass will allow entry to section

16, 17 & 18 of the South Kirby Blue Lot (Refer to map on p.13 - entry via Gate 9 on Kirby Dr.).

• Once you have presented your pass to the lot attendant at the lot entrance, priority parking is first-come, first-served. You will be led to the closest available space by Reliant parking staff. Any overflow priority parking is designated by on-site staff on the day of game as necessary.

How can I access the South Kirby Blue Lot with my priority parking pass?

• All parking passes have a perforated stub at the bottom to be torn off by a lot attendant at the Gate 9 lot entrance on Kirby Dr. (Refer to map on p.13).

How will Handicap Parking be handled? • Handicap parking will be free with presentation of Cougar

Pride Priority Parking Pass and handicap placard for priority lots at the gate and will be directed to closest available handicap space upon entering the lot. If you do not have a pass you will be charged $10 per vehicle with handicap placard.

How will cash parking be handled at Reliant Stadium on gameday? • All cash parking will be $10 per vehicle (unless vehicle is

oversized). • Refer to the Reliant Stadium Parking Map on Page 13.

Where will student parking be located?• Student parking is located in McNee Purple Lot (entry via Gate

15 on McNee Rd.)• $5.00 per spot with presentation of UH Student ID to lot

attendant.

How is RV and Oversized Vehicle Parking handled?• RV parking is $100 cash only at any cash lot on game day.• In past years, Cougar Pride has provided specific season-long

RV Parking areas and passes that could be obtained prior to gameday. ue to the nature of hosting home games in several temporary venues, Cougar Pride will be unable to provide the same opportunity for the 2013 football season.

How do I obtain an extra parking pass for the 2013 season? • Due to a limited number of priority spaces in the priority parking

lots, donors must place a request for additional parking passes prior to July 26.

• The cost for each additional parking pass is $120. • The additional number of parking pass(es) allowed for

purchase is determined by your Cougar Pride giving level (Please refer to chart below to determine the number of extra passes you are able to purchase).

• Additional parking pass(es) at this time, only apply to four (4) games at Reliant Stadium.

What happens if I make my Cougar Pride donation after the July 9 deadline?

• Parking passes can still be obtained by making a donation to Cougar Pride following the July 9 deadline; however, your parking pass may not arrive with your football season tickets.

• Due to Reliant Stadium parking guidelines and a limited number of spaces in the priority parking lot, donors must make a Cougar Pride contribution prior to July 26.

What if I lose/forget my parking pass? • Cougar Pride does not own or operate the parking lots at

Reliant Stadium and is being charged a premium for each allocated parking pass. Please report the loss of your parking pass immediately to Cougar Pride and you can obtain one replacement priority parking pass for a $120 fee.

Can I get a parking pass if I am not a season ticket holder? • No. Due to the cost and limited size of the priority lots at each

venue, only 2013 football season ticket holders will receive a priority parking pass for the season.

What is the process of obtaining a parking pass for basketball season?

• Information for basketball season donor permit parking will be released at a later date. Donors at the Varsity Club ($100 - $349) and above will receive complimentary parking with the purchase of men’s basketball season tickets.

For the 2013 season, please note several changes made to the Cougar Pride Priority Parking Plan for the four (4) home games at Reliant Stadium (8400 Kirby Dr. Houston, TX 77054) at this time. Houston Athletics has done its best to create a simple, but accommodating parking plan for Cougar Pride supporters. TheBayouBucketGamevs.RiceatReliantStadiumandthehomegamevs.MemphisatBBVACompassStadium(2200TexasStreet,Houston,Texas77003)willNOTbeincludedinthepriorityparkingplanforthe2013season. A comprehensive parking plan for the 2013 season will be released once information is available to Cougar Pride. Please remember that Cougar Pride has been working through the intricacies of hosting home games in multiple temporary venues. Priority parking has traditionally been an available amenity for Cougar Pride to allocate to supporters as a benefit. While these games are Houston Football home games for 2013, all usage (rules, regulations and procedures) of the stadium(s) and surrounding property, including all parking lots, are solely controlled by each individual venue.

Our goal is to provide the very best atmosphere for everyone, so we have established guidelines that parallel Reliant Stadium tailgating policy for Texans’ Games.

Each donor’s priority points total is taken into consideration when distributing benefits and assigning or allocating the following:

Our Cougar Pride Priority Points System allows us to reward and be more equitable to donors/season ticket holders for their past contributions in addition to their current support.

The purpose of program specific gifts is to support additional fundraising efforts by the University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Designed to assist each sports program and auxiliary athletics programs in achieving national recognition for excellence while enhancing community awareness and spirit, donors can restrict donations to the program of their choice.

Funds will be utilized as supplemental monies to the designated program’s

current budgetary needs such as summer school, staff, equipment and general program upgrades.

Annual sport-specific gifts are tax-deductible to the extent the

contribution exceeds the value of any benefits received in return. Please contact your tax advisor regarding this important information.

Sport-Specific gifts do not count toward your annual Cougar Pride

donation or benefits. Donors will receive priority points for their gifts see Page 25 for more information on priority points.

If you have any questions about restricted funds or to make a gift to a specific Houston sport program, please contact Cougar Pride

31Cougar Pride 2013 Membership Guide

Q: How will my season tickets and Cougar Pride renewal for 2013 have an impact on 2014 season ticket allocation?

A: Houston Athletics will begin the process of seating the new football stadium prior to its completion date of August 2014. Seat allocation in the new stadium will be based off of your 2013 Cougar Pride donation, if you had 2013 football season tickets, any football stadium pledge and the 2013 Cougar Pride Priority Point System. These components will have a direct impact on your season ticket allocation priority for the 2014 football season. Refer to chart on page 7.

Full details of the seating process for 2014 will be released at a later date with the full 2014 pricing structure.

Q: How will my seats be allocated this year?A: 2013 football season ticket seating allocation will be prioritized by the Cougar Pride Priority Points

System; annual giving level first and priority points within each giving level second.

If you would like to make a specific seating request or location preference, please email [email protected]. Please include your account number and name in all emails. We will do our best to get you as close to your request as possible, but are unable to guarantee requests. Please make sure to include this request with your renewal.

Q: Is my Cougar Pride donation tax-deductible?A: Yes, the donation that covers your priority seating obligation is 80% deductible; any additional

donation is 100% deductible. Please contact your tax advisor for more information.

Q: AtwhatdonationleveldoIbeginreceivingCougarPridebenefits?A: Although all cash/credit card gifts will be accepted, Cougar Pride benefits begin with a minimum

annual contribution at the Varsity Club ($100 level). Parking benefits begin at Captain’s Club ($350 level).

Q: How can I request to sit with my friends?*A: Indicate the names and account numbers of the individuals you would like to be seated with

when completing an order form or request forms. All parties must indicate their desire to be seated together and make the same request on their respective order forms. You may also fax or e-mail your group seating request to [email protected] by the renewal or order deadline. Each party must make this request!

* When allocating seats for parties wishing to sit together, the location will be based on the party member with the lowest priority point total.

Q: How can I purchase Donor Seats/Cougar Pride seats?A: Cougar Pride seating in the lower donor sections requires a minimum $350 per year donation. For

each $350 donation, you may purchase up to four seats in the Cougar Pride area. Club seating at the $635 and $510 sections include a ticket price of $280 and the remainder is the Cougar Pride donation.

32Cougar Pride 2013 Membership Guide

Q: Why is the cost of seats in the Club areas higher than seats in the lower bowl?A: Along with the ticket price for each club seat, there is now a per seat donation attached to the

ticket price in the club seating area. This procedure has been implemented to help offset the demand of premium seating options available to fans. In addition, and most importantly, the offering of premium seating that includes premium dining and beverage options helps to elevate Houston Athletics to a new level of excellence. This additional gift will go directly to Cougar Pride to help offset the cost of student-athlete scholarships. With your support, we are able to impact our program in an immediate and positive way.

Q: Why is the donor seating donation being raised from $250 to $350?A: Houston football’s priority seating donation ($250 per 4 seats) has remained the same since the

Cougars returned to Robertson Stadium from the Astrodome in 1998. The priority seating pricing has not historically reflected the tuition increases at the University of Houston since 1998. The current cost of a fully funded scholarship is now over $20,000! The increased funds will help support all Houston Athletics programs; in turn, enhancing the experience of all Houston student-athletes.

Q: What are Cougar Pride Priority Points used for?A: In an effort to more equitably serve Cougar Pride members, a system was developed in 2009 to

determine ranking to fairly process and prioritize many benefits, like postseason ticket allocation, championship tickets and special events. The priority point system is also used to allocate Cougar Pride benefits, such as football season parking and seating. Each donor’s priority point total is taken into consideration when distributing benefits and assigning or allocating the following:

• 2013 football season tickets • Priority parking for athletics events • Away game tickets • Neutral site tickets • Football bowl tickets • Men’s basketball conference post season tournament tickets •Allotherpriority-basedbenefits

Q: I see I can buy tickets to donate to the Little Coogs program. What is Little Coogs?A: Little Coogs is a University of Houston community outreach program. The program’s purpose it to

expose at-risk and underprivileged youths from Houston and the surrounding areas to a college atmosphere. One of the ways this is done is through attending sporting events on campus. Your donated tickets are distributed to these groups who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend. You will receive a tax donation form from All-N-One for any donations made to Little Coogs. For more information on the program, visit UHCougars.com.
