It has been another busy week at school and it looks as if it
is going to get more hectic as we race through the next five
weeks.
Well done to the Year 1 children who showed their teachers
how well they know their phonics this week.
We have had lots of children attending various sporting events and
it was fantastic to hear from teacher from another school how
well behaved and polite the children representing Mission Grove
were. We had children in Year 6 getting their cycling proficiency
badge to show they know how to ride their bikes safely on the
road. Thank you to Cycle confident who provide this training for us
free of charge.
We have been moving furniture around on the south site getting
ready for the new Reception children in September, who will be
visiting next week. From September we will have Nursery right
through to Year 6 on the South site. To make sure that we have a
classroom for everyone the children will be staying in the rooms
that they are in currently. The new Reception class will start in the
mobile with Nursery. Nursery will be in the right hand classroom
and Reception will be in the left. I hope that all makes sense.

Community Gardens—South
The children have done a wonderful job and with the kind donation of plants from the council, the planters
are beginning to look beautiful.
The middle planter is very special as it is full of edible plants. What we hope will happen is that people, and
us at school, cut small piece of the herbs and plants and use them in their cooking. Hopefully, if only small
amounts are cut the plants will flourish and we will have plenty for everyone. We do need everyone helping
us to make sure that people of the public look after them too.

We couldn't do all the amazing things we do without parental support, if you
feel that you want to get more involved we have a position on our governing
body for a parent representative. This is a great opportunity to learn more
about what is involved in the running of the school and sharing the views of
parents. If you are interested and would like any more details, please feel free
to come and speak to me , or email on
[email protected] with the subject parent governor. If we have a
few interested parties we will hold an election.
Well done to Sparrow class for their assembly on Thursday. The shared lots of information that they
have learnt about the Ancient Egyptians. It was quite surprising to see what they pulled out of the
body before embalming it.
Mission Globes 2018
To follow on the amazing film week we held our first Mission Globes Film Awards. It was a

We had this lovely message:
Dear Pupils, teachers and parents and carers
I am so sorry I am not able to be with you tonight to see the wonderful work you have pro-
duced.
For me to be at City Hall a few months ago, and to be with the Mayor of London when he
announced Waltham Forest as the first London Borough of Culture, was the absolute high-
light of my career and I am so excited and impressed that your school have taken up the
ideas with such enthusiasm. To be honest I can just about create a video on my phone, so
to know that pupils at such a young age have been involved in directing, acting and produc-
ing films has somewhat blown me away.
I really hope that you have enjoyed team work, discovered your own creativity, and got to be
better at technology than I could ever hope to be. Some of the parents and carers here
might remember, like I do, when you had to wait for photos to come through the letterbox
(get them to tell you about it later).
You should be very very proud of the work you have done and I am very very proud of you all.
Have an amazing evening and I hope to meet all of you at some of the
exciting events we have planned for our Borough of Culture year 2019.
Thank you
Cllr Clare Coghill, Leader of the Council
