Wal-mart Expectations

5000 bushels in a 12 week period.

Keep shelves stocked weekly.

100 acres of peas.   We pay $400.00 a load

per shipping. GAP and GHP

regulations.

Proper Pea Care Use a recommended

amount of herbicides and pesticides.

Peas must be purple (not green, immature, or dry).

Peas must be filled in (we get paid for shell out).

If peas are handpicked, must be in clean containers.

Proper Pea Care If peas are picked in the

morning, they weigh more than in the evening.

Peas must be kept in a cool place.  Peas must not stay in field overnight once they are picked.

Check your peas/ground for worms (cut leaves, don’t let grass grow).

These may affect profit margins.

Transporting Peas Get peas to the

processing facility within two days of picking the peas, next day would be better.

Peas must be in a covered clean cabbage or potato bags (27-28 lbs).

Peas must be covered from the field to the facility.

Quality Assurance For Saturday drop-off,

contact Mr. Baldwin by Friday.

Ensure that peas have not been contaminated.

Average shell out rate is 47%.

Ensure there is no trash in the peas.

Ensure quality early to save time and money

Co-op Goal To keep the truck ¾

full; need more peas than other produce.

We need information about your crop production.

5000 bushels in 12 weeks or we lose the account for next year.

Constantly feed the processing facility.

Your Compensation 27 lbs. of unshelled peas=

ll lbs. of shelled peas. (2 - 5 gallon buckets and another 1/3 full, equal 27 lbs.)  

Within 3-4 weeks, Wal-mart sends a check to the facility.

Mr. Baldwin will contact you when checks have arrived.

20 dollars a bushel (shell out) to farmer (approximately).
