Fantastic, let’s talk about who MAP is for.

- This is for you who are serious about seeing real missionary life.

- It’s for you who want to truly experience giving your whole life to ministry.

- It’s for you who want to experience the messy reality of living in another culture.

- MAP is for you who first and foremost want to serve Christ with your life.

If this describes you, then you’re ready for our Mission Apprenticeship Program.

You will not enjoy every minute of your apprenticeship. You will not be comfortable.

Tough times will come and difficult situations will force you to rely solely on God.

Real, authentic ministry does not come in nice neat little packages. Real ministry involves

trudging through the brokeness of our fallen world alongside others in order to share

Christ with those who do not yet know Him.

After you are done with your MAP experience, you will have a clearer picture of what it

takes to live as a missionary. If you want to take this step of faith, and are prepared for

God to change you in ways you didn’t even think were possible, then keep reading to see

the opportunities we have available for you…

Challenge you to follow Christ everyday.

Expose you to other cultural worldviews.Opportunity to truly experience living as a foreign missionary.

Practical cross-cultural ministry training and experience.

Hands-on experience in area of interest.

Many students receive college credit.

Before you read anything else in here, ask yourself:

STOP READINGGo look elsewhere.

Do I want to becfortable?

Do I want to just travel the world?

Do I want to help others so I can feelbetter about myself?

Do I want to have afun time?

Do I want to experience somethingjust to brag about it?

If you want any of these things,

MAP is not for you.

What do I want?

Experience the work of missionaries around the world who are using sports as

a way to reach their communities. Missionaries use a combination of clinics,

games, and instruction to improve skills, build relationships, and share the

message of Jesus.

Use the musical giftings and passions that God has given you to reach the

lost. Opportunities in this area usually use a combination of performance and

education to build relationships with others and share the Gospel with them.

Be a part of empowering those in foreign countries by teaching them English.

Missionary partners are using this tool to share the Gospel and they want

the help of native English speakers such as you. Help use the wealth of

opportunities in this area to reach children and youth for the Kingdom.

Help the poorest of society achieve physical wellness and create opportunities

to share the Gospel through medical ministry. Spread the hope of Jesus to the

sick and diseased around the world. Some locations require previous medical

experience.

Join the work of international Christians as they minister amid persecution,

poverty, and discouragement. Help encourage local believers, reach the lost

and hurting, and experience cross-cultural ministry first-hand. Past apprentices

have run VBS ministry, after school drop-in programs, and youth ministry.

My trip to Brazil was more incredible than I could have ever hoped for. I had the opportunity to build a great relationship with my host missionary and his family and be immersed in Brazilian culture. God taught me that He doesn’t need me to be able; He just needs me to be available.

We need to be willing to stand up to do any task- no matter how small or ordinary, and let God be the one who turns our willingness into something extraordinary.

So, how does a mission

apprenticeship with YMI work?

We’re glad you asked! Let’s dive into YMI’s

process designed to help you get the most from

every aspect of your experience.

Good question. Our international apprenticeships

do not. Since you are staying overseas, you will

need to fundraise for expenses during your time

overseas. However, for most of our domestic

apprenticeships you will be able to fundraise

your own salary for your experience, just like a

missionary would.

After you sign up and are approved for your

apprenticeship, you will learn more details

as arrangements are being made. Since each

apprenticeship is customized, there may be things

that you won’t know until you get to the field.

Faith is an important part of this process!

This can seem to be the most daunting task for an

individual going on an apprenticeship. However,

it is also the task where God can most stretch and

bless you. YMI offers advice and guidance in your

fundraising efforts as we see how God provides

for each of our participants.

After you have been accepted for your

apprenticeship, you will receive a packet of

information that includes ministry and fundraising

assignments that you will need to complete before

your trip. These assignments will be specific to the

Does my apprenticeship pay?

Who will I be working with?

How else can I prepare for my apprenticeship?

Where will I be staying?

Training and Debrief? What are those for?

When will I know all the nitty gritty details about my apprenticeship?

Fundraise? How does that work?

What does training look like?

All of YMI’s apprenticeships have a fundraising

goal. Your goal includes airfare to and from the

mission site, as well as food and lodging during

your training, time on-site, and debrief.

Before your trip, YMI will schedule a mission

training time with you that fits your schedule as

well as any teammates that you may have. At your

mission training, you will be equipped for your

experience. This is what sets YMI apart from other

mission organizations and also where we can judge

your readiness for the trip. It is why our missionary

partners enjoy receiving and using our teams and

students to help their ministry.

While there will be a quick review of the basics

of the Gospel message and your testimony, the

training will focus much more on how to properly

communicate the Gospel in different settings.

Discussion of best ministry practices and your own

spiritual growth will also be an important part of

the training.

YMI works predominantly with indigenous

missionaries. Every missionary that we work with is

involved in sustainable ministries that help share the

Gospel in their local areas. All locations YMI sends

to have been approved in person by a YMI staff

member.

You will either stay at a host home or a local church

during your stay in-country. Living conditions will

depend on the country and site you go to, as they

will mirror that of the host missionary.

Great question. We believe that ministry can only

be properly done with training, so every YMI

participant is required to go through training before

their experience. Debrief lasts anywhere from 24-48

hours after you complete your apprenticeship. This

time helps you gradually deal with culture shock,

process your experience, and be able to re-enter

your “normal” life prepared for the future. Re-entry

is a critical component of MAP.

type of opportunity you desire, and could include:

• Reading books on subjects such as ministry,

evangelism, and leadership

• Actively serving in a church body

• Raising financial and prayer support.

7

Can I contact my family while I’m abroad?

Do I qualify to be a ministry apprentice?

Will I have a team with me?

Participants will be able to periodically

communicate with family and friends through

e-mail, Facebook, Skype, etc.

While an internet connection is not guaranteed

at all times, participants and missionary partners

will always be able to contact YMI in case of an

emergency.

How Do I Sign Up?

Go to WWW.YMIMISSIONS.ORG

now to apply!Aside from the questions we asked on the first page, here are our more technical qualifications for our apprentices:

o A personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

o High School Graduate to 26 years of age.

o Recommendations from church leadership.

This depends on the location and timing of your apprenticeship. Some apprentices will be on their own while others have a team of 3-5. If you want to be on a team, you may need to be flexible with your location choice and dates. If you really feel called to a certain location at a certain time, you may be serving the missionary on your own.

All locations are personally checked by a YMI staff member, so you will be safe and well-cared for whether you are on a team or by yourself. At some locations apprentices may also work with a high school team for a week or two of the experience.

2. Phone InterviewAfter you sign up, you will be contacted by a

YMI representative who will conduct a phone

interview with you.

This short interview helps us get to know you,

find out what you are expecting from your

apprenticeship and assess your readiness for this

type of experience. Shortly after your interview,

we will contact you to let you know if you have

been selected.

3. Begin PreparingIf you are selected, you will receive a packet of

information that contains more information on

the specifics of your mission apprenticeship.

It will also include guidelines, instructions, and

deadlines that you need to know in order to

prepare for your apprenticeship.

1. Apply OnlineOnline, you will enter in the length, time of year,

location, and ministry options which you desire.

Please remember that our missionary partners

have busy schedules and may not be able to

accomodate all requests.

We will try our hardest to find the best opportunity

for you and the missionary partner that you serve.
