For all students who will be purchasing a parking permit—be advised that there have been changes made in our

parking procedures due to the construction project here at BASH. Due to the increase in staff here at the Senior High,

the entire parking lot located directly behind the auditorium (“band lot”) is now for staff parking only. Additionally,

the two-tiered lot adjacent to Monroe Street is for construction contractor parking only. All students are to park in the

new paved lot (old stone lot) located below the “band lot.”

When you purchase and have been issued a parking tag which you MUST display face out, from your rear-view

mirror. The number on the tag is simply a means of identifying your vehicle in the BASH lot, YOU DO NOT HAVE

AN ASSIGNED SPACE. Parking will be on a first come, first served bases. Please be cognizant that parking

locations may change throughout the course of the 2015/2016 school year due to the construction project. If you need

to drive a different vehicle to school it must be registered before school starts for the day. ANY VEHICLE PARKED

IN A STAFF SPACE, NOT DISPLAYING A PARKING PERMIT TAG, OR NOT PROPERLY REGISTERED

WILL BE TICKETED!

As always, you may not share your parking permit with another student unless you are siblings. In that case, both

siblings need to be registered to that permit number. Students who are found to be sharing their permit with an

unregistered student will lose their parking privilege at the discretion of their grade level principal.

Please remember, unpaid parking tickets will become an obligation & loss of privilege.

ATTENTION BASH STUDENTS PARKING IN THE CVS PLAZA PARKING LOT:

Parents, please remind your student driver that the CVS plaza parking lot is for private use of patrons utilizing the

stores in that plaza. Please be cognizant that parking in that lot during/throughout the school day will leave you

vulnerable to having your vehicle ticketed and/or towed at your expense

BASH Photo ID’s:

All BASH students will be required to have their photo ID displayed (we will provide every student with a lanyard)

throughout the school day. Students will need to utilize their photo ID’s while “scanning” in and out of OC, scanning

in and out of off-campus lunch privilege (OCLP), purchasing lunch in the cafeteria etc. Students are required to

present their photo ID upon any BASH staff member’s request. All BASH staff members are identified through

having their photo ID badges displayed at all times.

As an addition to the career portfolio graduation requirements, ALL sophomore students are now required to complete an online Digital Driver’s License (DDL) – High School Units ONLY - component in order to complement the 1:1 laptop computer initiative. The due date for this requirement to stay current with career portfolio obligations is Friday, January 22, 2016. Beginning Monday, December 14, 2015 through Tuesday, December 22, 2015, ALL sophomore students will have time in their FLEX assignment to work to complete this requirement. STUDENTS MUST LIST THEIR HOMEROOM TEACHER/ADVISOR (HR/ADV) AS THEIR TEACHER WHILE COMPLETING THE DDL. Student help desk in the BASH library will be available during FLEX for assistance. Additionally, provided below is the constructed response question that must be completed at the conclusion of the DDL requirement:

● What does it mean to be a digital citizen? After completing the modules of the Digital Driver’s License,

analyze two themes you feel are most important and why. What are the specific impacts on students and

society related to those themes?

Both the DDL certificate of completion and the constructed response MUST be uploaded to ALL sophomore students

career portfolio by the Friday, January 22, 2016 to remain current with career portfolio obligations.

ACT-ASPIRE Results:

On Wednesday, February 17, 2016 during Flex, all sophomore students will report to the AUD to go over their Aspire

test results. That morning, HR teachers will pass out the results to the students in preparation for the meeting.

Sophomore AM BCTC students will meet in the Academy Rooms when they return during 5th period to go over their

scores. Your son/daughter are to bring the results from his/her ACT-Aspire home for your review.

Provided below is a 12 minute video on the ACT-Aspire Website that explains the students’ scores. Please feel free

News from the BASH Library:

Starting on Monday, February 8, 2016, students will no longer need to sign up for a Library Pass to use the Library.

Yeah! No more yellow Library passes. This is how it will work…it will be very similar to Open Campus and the

Security procedures….

If students are scheduled for Open Campus and want to use the Library, they will report directly to the Library

at the beginning of their assigned period. Their ID will be scanned and attendance will be reported to the

Open Campus personnel. After their ID is scanned, they will find a seat in the Library or ask to use a

computer.

If students are scheduled for the LGI, they will still need to get a green pass signed by the teacher for whom

they need to complete work. They will report directly to the Library at the beginning of their assigned period –

show their signed-green pass with their ID and the LGI will be notified of their attendance. After their ID is

scanned, they will find a seat in the Library or ask to use a computer.

If students want to use the Library during Flex (between 2nd and 3rd periods) – The procedure is not going to

change. They will need to go to the Library before Flex to sign up for a Pink pass. They will still need to have

the pink pass signed by their Flex teacher before arriving at the Library for Flex.

If students are an AM BCTC student wanting to use the Library on their return from BCTC, they will report

directly to the Library. Their ID will be scanned and the LGI or Open Campus will be notified of their

attendance. After their ID is scanned, they will find a seat in the Library or ask to use a computer.

If students have any questions, they can please ask the Library Staff or their Open Campus and LGI Staff.

In-house Open Campus (OC) Versus SH (LGI) Clarification:

We have been receiving some questions regarding Open Campus (OC) privilege opportunity afforded to BASH

students and study hall (typically the LGI) placement. Provided below is information explaining how students may

lose the OC privilege and be placed into a quiet study hall (typically the LGI):

OC privilege

o Students may appropriately use electronic devices, participate in light conversation with their peers,

use available snack vending machines, and have the availability to acquire passes to go to the library or

other authorized building locations

Reasons for student loss of OC privilege resulting in a quiet study hall placement

o A final quarterly grade below a 70% in any one of his/her courses (core content and/or related studies)

as measured from the previous quarter’s final grades (PLEASE NOTE: Initial placement for the

2014/2015 school year is based on current sophomore, junior, and senior students who had a final

course grade of below a 70% in any one of his/her courses from the 2013/2014 SY)

o Non-completion of a financial obligation (e.g. lost book replacement)

o Non-completion of a previously assigned consequence by established due date (e.g. overdue detention)

o Non-completion of career portfolio graduation requirement at the conclusion of the designated school

year

Continuing this 2015/2016 school year, students will now have placed on his/her report card and transcript, progress

attained on the Career Portfolio Graduation Project requirement. At the conclusion of each quarter and school year,

homeroom teachers/advisors will be required to enter either a “P” (Pass) or an “F” (Fail) for each of the students on

their respective homeroom rosters based on the completion of the requirements for that particular quarter or school

year. The “P” or the “F” will be the result of properly maintaining the records of each of the students assigned to them

as the homeroom teacher/advisor through the notebooks turned into the School Counseling Office.

A student with the expected completed requirements for each of the three years at BASH (10-11-12) will receive the

“P” rating for that particular quarter/year. A student NOT completing the expected requirements for each of the three

years at BASH (10-11-12) will receive the “F” rating for that particular quarter/year. Students receiving an “F” for

either a quarter or year will not have access to BASH privileges until the next subsequent quarter/year report indicates

a “P” for passing.

Please feel free to contact Mrs. Mason (Class of 2017 Grade Level/Assistant Principal) who serves as the

Administrator for the Career Portfolio Graduation Project requirement should you have any additional questions.

Smart Snack Nutrition Standards:

Provided below is information relative to the new USDA standards regarding food & snacks in school which had been

implemented last July 1, 2014.

The standards may be accessed via the following link…

www.fns.usda.gov/cnd/governance/legislation/allfoods.htm

These standards do not relate to evening events at school that serve food (e.g. Fall Festival, sports events, etc.) and do

not relate to classroom celebrations where a student, parent, or staff member brings food for a special event. We do

not need to alter our practices in these areas.

These standards do not relate to food sales or fund raisers that deliver the food products outside of school, and/or on a

non-school day and/or in the evening.

The standards do apply to the following:

Page 18: Mission “To enable ALL students to succeed in a changing ...€¦ · Mission…“To enable ALL students to succeed in a changing world.”…Mission Vision…“Learning and achievement

Food items that do not meet the standards and are sold at school from midnight through 30 minutes following

the end of the student school day (this would be 3:18PM for BASH)

Schools are limited to approving up to 10(HS only) or 5 (JH and elementary) fund raiser events that sell food

items that do NOT meet standards during the period described above per school year

Each approved event per above can take place for no longer than one week

Provided below is the process that will be utilized for approval of fundraisers at BASH that do NOT meet the

standards…

Request for these types of fundraisers MUST be submitted by September 26, 2014

Each group/club/ organization will be permitted to submit their request for only ONE fundraiser per school

year on a first come first served basis

All internal groups/clubs/ organizations will be given preference for approval

All approvals are completed and returned to the group/club/ organization by the administration

Requests that are incomplete will not be considered

All other fundraisers should be submitted as per past practice.

Raptor System Update:

We are pleased to share that all Boyertown Area Schools continue with the Raptor Identification System for this

2015-2016 school year. This system is located in each school office. We will be requiring that all school visitors/

volunteers provide a driver’s license or other government-issued identification card and the visitor/volunteer will be

able to proceed into the school as planned. School staff will swipe the card to determine if the individual is a

registered sex offender. In most cases the system will issue a temporary ID badge to wear during a visit or volunteer

activity. If the system lists any offender information, the principal will intervene and the individual will not be

permitted to enter the school outside of the school office area. Individuals who need to drop off or pick up materials

in the school office will not be required to use the system. This system was identified as a safety improvement by our

District and Building Safety Teams. Through our successful application to the Safe Schools Grant, we obtained

outside funding for all of this equipment. Additional information on the Raptor System can be found on our District

website at http://www.boyertownasd.org/domain/1179. We thank all parents, guardians and visitors in advance for
