MISSION

Dear Friends:

I would like to thank you for your generous support of Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club. For 69 years, the Club has served as a cornerstone for our community. The original clubhouse was built in the center of town in 1950 to provide a safe place for boys to gather and to have fun. Over the past 7 decades, the Club membership, programming and facilities has contin-ued to grow.

This year, the needs of the Club and its membership have outgrown our clubhouse.After consulting with architects, public officials, neighbors, parents and youth development specialists, the Club’s Board of Directors voted to proceed with our Building Great Futures Building Project. The goal is to expand the clubhouse in a manner that maintains the Club’s historic standard of excel-lence while meeting the needs of our kids today and well into the future.

In June, we officially broke ground on the $10.1 million project for the complete renovation and expansion of our club-house and grounds. The building project will be completed in Fall 2020 and includes changes to the interior and exteri-or of the building designed to accommodate the Club’s afterschool programming. It will provide a dedicated space for the youngest members, tech labs, studios for art and dance, a public meeting room, and a teen center for middle and high school students. The project will also move the location of the Club’s main entrance away from the busy intersec-tion on Forest Avenue to a safer drop-off and pick-up place on Weir Lane. The plans provide for a parking lot to ease the demands made on the limited parking in Locust Valley and moves the playground closer to the building to maximize its use.

During the interim with the help of community partners, we have continued to serve our families who rely on us to provide a safe place for their children to learn and have fun. Our summer camp was held at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection in Brookville. Beginning in September, we offered afterschool programming for our members in Grades K – 5 at the Bayville Recreation Center and Locust Valley Reformed Church, and for our Middle and High School students Grades 6 – 12 at St. Patrick Church’s All Saints School in Glen Cove. Although the location changed, our wonderful staff continued to deliver great programming each day.

The Club remains committed to helping each member as they make their way from childhood to a productive and fulfilled adulthood. As the world around us changes, our Club has changed, adapted and evolved, but our fundamental mission remains the same. Our Board, our staff and our membership are thankful to you for your ongoing support and we are excited about what the future holds for Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club.

2019Anthony Aguilar, Youth of the Year

Every year, our Youth of the Year program celebrates the extraordinary achievements of our teens. In 2019, Anthony Aguilar was selected Grenville Baker Boys & Girls Club’s Youth of the Year. A scholar athlete dedicated to community and Club service, Anthony is an A+ honors student at Glen Cove High School. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Varsity Football and Track teams, and the Band and Wind Ensemble. At school, Anthony leads by example, demonstrat-ing maturity, accepting challenges, and balancing the additional demands of a part-time job.

Anthony joined Grenville Baker when he was in the first grade. As an active member for 11 years, he has participated in many of the Club’s programs including College Prep, City Club and Money Matters. “The Club helped me realize that I actually do have a chance to go to college and it has helped me work harder in school,” said Anthony. As Treasurer of the Keystone Club, Grenville Baker’s community service and leadership organization, Anthony performed more than 75 hours of service every year in high school. Next year, Anthony hopes to become the first member of his family to go to college.
