I am excited to announce that this week we will begin our study of the ocean habitat and the ocean animals that live there! As part of our ocean study, your child will complete an ocean animal research project for homework.
Your child has chosen ______________________ as his/her ocean animal.
Your child will be writing a short report about his/her ocean animal. They will need your help finding credible research information. Some good sources for information might include:
• Newspaper/magazine articles • Books or encyclopedias • Credible internet websites and articles (Here are a few helpful ones):
o http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/animals/ o http://discoverykids.com/category/animals/ o http://www.softschools.com/facts/animals/ o http://www.kidsplanet.org
Please help your child to find this information and organize it into the My Ocean Animal Report page. Please try to find information that is close to the reading ability of your child. After you have completed the My Ocean Animal Report, make a creative display for your in class presentation. Your display can be a posterboard, a display board, a diorama, brochure etc. Make sure to include pictures that you print or draw! Feel free to get creative and have fun! (see ideas on reverse side)
Your child’s grade is partially based upon the criteria below. Use this as a checklist to make sure you have included all of the following:
Did you… ________ Write in complete sentences? ________ Begin each sentence with a capital letter? ________ End each sentence with a punctuation mark? ________ Spell all words correctly? ________ Remember to write your name? ________ Draw a picture? ________ Make a display of pictures and facts?
The ocean animal research project is due on Monday, May 16 . Students will begin presenting these projects on Monday, May 16.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you, Miss Mitchum
