C.R.A.W Help CRAW is a mathematical problem solving strategy that enables students to show how mathematical word problems can be solved in different ways. Each letter stands for the following-
C- Concrete- You can use a manipulative like a counter or blocks to show how you formulated your equation and solved.
R- Representational- You can draw pictures to show how you formulated your equation and solved. Here, we like to see you represent in more than one way if you can!
A- Abstract- You can write the equation or write a number sentence to solve. Here, you can also check your work!
W- Written- You can explain the steps you took to solve and explain your thinking!
The next page has an example of a higher level (maybe 3rd grade) CRAW organizer and how it’s filled out. I just wanted you to be able to see what the layout looks like. I’m also attaching the organizer your child is more familiar with.
The CRAW organizer 1-210 has been using:C-Concrete R-Represent
