ADDITIONAL SESSION INFORMATION
Thursday, August 7 10:15-‐10:45 AM PYP/MYP Coordinator Overview Julieta Carrillo PYPC and Andrew Johnson MYPC Our school’s PYP and MYP Coordinators will be sharing goals and general working framework dynamics this school year. They will also share current information about our accreditation/evaluation visit, self-‐review process for PYP and candidacy stage for the MYP. 10:45 -‐ 12:00 PM PLC Framework Introduction, PLC Team Distribution and Educational Parent Night Teacher Sign up Marisa Leon HoS and Erika Velez SSS Coord -‐DHoS Professional Learning Communities: “Celebrating and moving forward” Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) shift the focus of school reform from restructuring to re-‐establishing a culture. A PLC is an ongoing process used to establish a school wide culture that develops teacher leadership explicitly focused on building and sustaining school improvement efforts. Generally, PLCs are composed of teachers, although administrators and support staff routinely participate. In some schools, PLCs are extended to community members and students, as appropriate. Through participation in PLCs, teachers enhance their leadership capacity while they work as members of ongoing, high-‐performing, collaborative teams that focus on improving student learning. As the school moves forward, every professional in the building must engage with colleagues in the ongoing exploration of three crucial questions that drive the work of those within a professional learning community:
1. What do we want each student to learn? 2. How will we know when each student has learned it? 3. How will we respond when a student experiences difficulty in learning?
Friday , August 8 9:00-‐ 10:00 AM Productivity and Collaboration with Google Calendar Tod Baker ITC Stay in control of your schedule and save time with Google Calendar. Learn how to add your teaching schedule to your calendar, add your meetings to your calendar, invite people to meetings, and view other calendars. 10:15-‐12:00 PM Differentiation and Assessment in the IB Marisa Leon HoS, Erika Velez SSS Coord-‐DHoS and Nuria Campos G3 LT Assessment: How do we know students learned?
Assessment in the IB programmes identifies what students know, understand, can do and value at different stages in the teaching and learning process. The direct link between assessment and the teaching and learning process means that they must function purposefully together. Assessing the
result of inquiry as well as the process of inquiry are important objectives of the IB programmes. Reviewing purposes of assessment:
• provide feedback to students, parents and teachers • determine what the student knows and understands about the world • inform and differentiate teaching and learning • monitor student progress in the development of the IB learner profile attributes • monitor the effectiveness of the programme. • formative and summative assessments

Math in Focus-‐ The Singapore Approach is the newest program to incorporate the widely used Singapore approach to math. Two key ways that the Singapore approach differs from more traditional programs are:
·∙ Consistent use of models that allow students to tackle concepts that are normally delayed until later grades ·∙ An emphasis on application of math skills to real-‐world situations helps children become formidable problem solvers in real life

Teresa Sadurni – Head of Preschool Teresa Sadurní has worked with young children for almost twenty years. Brought up in a multicultural family, she has Mexican, Italian, Spanish and American roots. She has worked at bilingual schools in Mexico and in Spain, both as Preschool and Elementary teacher. She has been Preschool and Elementary Principal at the Escuela Sierra Nevada, one of the largest bilingual schools in Mexico City, for the last 5 years. She is a solid constructivist who believes that all children must be given the opportunity to learn in a warm and enriching environment where there are constant challenges for them to become confident in all the key development areas, as well as grow in independence and self-‐esteem. She believes an ideal environment for a child to develop these traits and skills should take into account that children have different learning styles. Integrating the different content areas into meaningful units of work, allows children to learn through the exploration of the world around them. This helps them develop a critical mind to become knowledgeable, responsible citizens and good communicators.
