last minute because he would cite urgent business matters. As always, he would apologize profusely. Through the months, he was able to make her feel loved and very special. To keep the fantasy alive, he would send her love messages each morning and love notes at bedtime. Soon her heart would overrule her head.

When the time was ripe, he talked about his business and that his money was tied up and he was venturing to get a huge contract that would make him rich. But he needed $75,000. Blindly in love, Lulu never asked but willingly sent him the money. Some weeks passed by and he was very sad; he needed $100,000 to clinch the deal. Lulu had to dig into all her savings literally to send it to him. But this time, she was a little disturbed and dying to believe this guy was genuine. She consulted a friend and was told to be very careful that he might be a scammer. But Lulu could not bear the thought of it. The love notes clearly showed that his feelings were true. After sending the $100,000, she insisted to see him but was told that he was in big trouble. When he was in Nigeria for a project, he was accused of something he did not do and was now in jail and he needed $50,000 for a lawyer. He told her to come to Nigeria to meet his lawyer. She flew to Nigeria with borrowed money and met up with a fake lawyer who promised to get her to visit this guy in prison. It did not come to pass and finally, Lulu realized she had been scammed. She returned home a heartbroken and penniless lady.

Every year, even in Singapore, there are hundreds of love scam cases. In the United Kingdom, there are 200,000 cases of love scams per year and that is huge! We often wonder why there are people who can deceive others in a love scam. Don’t they have a conscience at all? We have to understand that behind it all, there is a person called Satan. He is the greatest scammer. Jesus exposed him when He came to this earth. He said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.”

Many people are being hoodwinked by Satan. They have many things stolen by the devil – their self-image, inheritance in God, money, emotions, souls and eternity were all stolen by him. While love scammers go after your money, Satan goes after everything that belongs to you, even your

Internet love scam is big business with syndicate operators sitting behind computers in an office. Their job is to type love letters. Of course, these operators do not mean a word they type, but this is their full-time job trying to scam unsuspecting lonely people, especially lonely ladies. Tonight, Pastor Rony’s sermon was aptly titled Love Scams.

A typical love scam story goes something like this. Lulu just lost her husband. Lonely and vulnerable, she made friends with someone on the Internet – a guy she had never met. Soon she was texting and emailing him very frequently. That guy seemed to be sweet and very encouraging. They both exchanged photos of each other and he sent her gorgeous photos of himself, probably stolen ones. He kept complimenting her on how beautiful she was and declare his undying love for her with assurances of his love, concerns and promises of marriage and a happy life together. Lulu was hesitant at first because she had not met him in person, but her emotions were already stirred and she asked herself, “Why not?” She was assured too that he had a thriving business and wanted to marry her. She told herself that she deserved a new lease of life. They talked about meeting each other, but all the appointed meetings were cancelled and postponed at the

health and soul. He is wickedly generous and wants you to spend eternity with him in hell. The source of all scamming starts with the devil himself. When God created this whole world, He took pains creating every detail needed by man. And when everything was ready, He created man and put him in a beautiful garden. There was perfect bliss. Then disguised as a crafty serpent, Satan came to tempt Eve. He asked her a question, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil?” Eve replied that if they ate this fruit, they would surely die.

When Adam and Eve began their existence in the Garden of Eden, they were immortal. They were not meant to die unless they disobeyed God’s command. The devil told them they would not surely die when they partook of the fruit but instead, the day they ate of it, their eyes would be opened. He even assured them that they would have a new experience and they would be like God. In that statement, the devil was insinuating that God was keeping something good from them. He was trying to scam Adam and Eve. Eve was duped. She did not pause to think that God made all the provisions for them and she had not tasted all the other fruits in the garden yet. Why should she mess around with the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil when she was specifically told not to partake of it? Eve was so deceived that she thought she should not be denied of that fruit. When Adam and Eve fell, they were driven out of the Garden of Eden, but God planned a way out for them. It started with Him telling them that an innocent animal had to be sacrificed to atone for sin. Throughout the Old Testament when God was dealing with the Israelites coming out of Egypt, they had to bring an innocent animal and lay hands on it, thus transferring their sins to the animal. Two thousand years ago, a once-and-for-all sacrificial Lamb was killed at Calvary. God became a man and He died on the Cross. This

is God’s love for us. Jesus died for our sins. Give your life to Him.

The presence of God was tangibly felt in both Sanctuaries. The preached Word touched many souls and many received healing.

Katherine Ang had problems with her left knee which impeded her walking. Tonight, someone prayed for her and the pain lifted 90 percent.

Two weeks ago when Tan Sin Min was passing motion, he discovered blood in his stools. He went to see a doctor in the National University Hospital and was found to have hemorrhoids. He was given some medication. At the same time, he prayed and God healed him of his bleeding condition.

Key Chek Dong’s son went into business and for the first two months, business was bad. Worried and concerned, Chek Dong came to the Miracle Service for six months to pray for his son’s business. Two weeks ago, his son received a sizable amount of business.

For three years, A. Christurajan suffered from varicose ulcers. He came to the Miracle Service faithfully for five months to be prayed for. Recently, the doctor checked his condition and told him that his varicose veins were completely healed. Hallelujah! He was also told he might have some heart issues. He again was prayed for at the Miracle Service and two weeks ago, the doctor told him his heart was normal.

Annie Too worked in an animal clinic and there was a case of a runaway cat. This sick cat had run away in the morning causing panic and exasperation to everyone at the clinic. The vet asked Annie to look for it. She searched for the cat until 2.00 pm and also prayed that God would help her to find and bring it back to the clinic before closing time. Praise the Lord at 7.00 pm, before leaving for home, they found the cat lying in front of the clinic door.

The devil comes to steal, kill and destroy, but Jesus came to give life and life abundantly.

September 12 was a Haji public holiday, but a party of Lighters gathered to celebrate festivities of a

different type – the Gospelighters Appreciation Lunch.

The celebration kicked off with a time of enriching worship, followed by an invigorating sermon by Reverend Dr. Phillip Huan who challenged us with his message One Level Higher. It was a call to all Gospelighters to recognise the 5 Levels of God’s Anointing in serving Him, as well as the dangers of stagnation at each level of service. The altar call at the end of the sermon saw many Gospelighters surrendering their lives for the Lord to remove barriers that prevented progress and to receive the impartation to go on to the next level of service.

After feeding on the Word, everyone eagerly proceeded for more feeding – a splendid lunch of nyonya classics and favourites! The Tabernacle was converted into a cheerful dining hall bedecked with tables draped in red or white. Over lunch, Gospelighters from both LEW and LET fed and fellowshipped.

As lunch began to wind down and many were either sipping their kopi or nibbling on kuehs, the fun part of the festivities unfolded. Amidst much banter and laughter, a game was played involving high-level teamwork; a blessed draw for a number of lucky individuals was carried out and another blessed draw for the folks of a few tables wrapped up the day’s celebration. Those who did not win prizes did not leave empty-handed as each Gospelighter had a really nice door gift to take home.

Indeed, everyone had something to bring home – be it a memorabilia of this special day or the memory of the heartwarming eat-together or just the names that finally came with the faces we were so used to seeing at the Miracle Service. Above all, two things stand out: first, the lesson from the pulpit continues to resound in us that we are called by God to progress in His anointing and not to stagnate; and second, the gratitude and affection in each Gospelighter’s heart for Pastor Clarence and each of his Ministry staff who together made the Appreciation Lunch such a delightful and unforgettable one. Thumbs up to them!
