Unmanned Ground Vehicles

We deliver proven unmanned ground vehicle capability, direct to the front line. Our experts design, build and integrate versatile unmanned ground systems for clients worldwide.

About MIRAWe are a high-tech defence vehicle engineering company. Our research and development into the future of unmanned systems is at the cutting edge of defence capability. MIRA brings highly innovative unmanned technologies to life – from concept through to delivery.

MIRA’s Unmanned Solutions

Our unmanned technology – MIRA Autonomous Control Equipment (MACE) - is adaptable and flexible. Our control systems can be adapted to fit almost any type of ground vehicle – regardless of size or design. The range of applications for MIRA unmanned technology is broad; our engineers and designers have integrated a wide array of sensors, countermeasures and payloads to existing customer platforms. These integrated systems have a diverse range of uses including IED/mine detection, route proving and clearance, perimeter security and ISTAR.

The contemporary land threat environment presents many operational challenges. Unmanned systems can offer a safe, secure and affordable means to increasing combat capability whilst minimising the level of risk to front line forces.

MACE is tailored to customer requirements - it can be configured to provide vehicles that operate via remote control through to full autonomy - depending upon the task and concept of use.

We are experienced in the design, integration, build, delivery, and support of unmanned programmes within exceptionally tight deadlines. Our unmanned systems are on operations now, offering commanders greater tactical flexibility, increased situational awareness, and enhanced freedom to manoeuvre within a high-threat environment. MACE is combat proven and utilises mature technology that delivers results in the world’s most hostile operating zones.

Unmanned TechnologyMIRA’s unmanned systems are based upon mature and proven technologies that stand up to the rigours of the operational environment. Key enabling technologies and services include:

MACE: MIRA Autonomous Control Equipment, modular based equipment architecture to convert the vehicle to unmanned

Command and Control: Systems can be operated in remote, semi-autonomous or fully-autonomous modes depending upon the user requirement

Equipment Safety Case: Delivering a safety case to demonstrate ALARP system safety

Communications: Safe and secure links selected to suit mission requirements

Power and Battery Management: Expert engineering to meet all power requirements reliably and continuously, even when payload/space is at a premium

Responding to an Urgent Operational Requirement, MIRA produced the Pathfinder vehicle, a highly advanced unmanned system used by the British Army in Afghanistan to perform route proving and clearance. Fitted with a complex sensor suite, the Pathfinder vehicle has saved lives, reduced the burden on frontline troops and has enabled greater tactical manoeuvre throughout an operating area heavily seeded with IEDs. Key features in the success of this programme included:

Design, development, build, certification and fielding of an unmanned system from concept through to operational use within a very tight timeframe

Case Study: Pathfinder Vehicle

Integration of a complete sensor suite designed for the route clearance role

Development of a training package that allowed users to be trained on the system quickly, efficiently and with a high degree of operational competence

Field service/support representatives deployed to theatre to ensure the system was maintained and upgraded as necessary

Acting upon user-feedback to enhance the system wherever required and provide additional operational capability

Payload Integration: Design and delivery of integration packages for a diverse range of sensors and payloads for optimum mission performance

Human Machine Interface: Intuitive controls for ease of operation

Training and Simulation: Mission specific training that delivers high levels of performance from the end user
