BONE MARROW DONOR BONE MARROW DONOR REGISTRYREGISTRYThe Malaysian Marrow Donor Registry is dedicated to compiling a database of volunteers who have registered to become bone marrow donors. This database offers a chance to patients who are suffering from life-threatening blood disorders and are unable to find a suitable donor from their siblings.

The MMDR was setup in December 1999. It is a joint project of the MAKNA, the Ministry of Health and the Institute of Medical Research.

The Bursary Programme provides monthly financial assistance of RM 150- RM 500, purchasing of surgical equipment and expensive drugs to needy cancer patients upon referral from Hospital Medical Welfare Departments. Yearly, MAKNA aids over 4,000 patients through this programme.
Interventions are in the form of:- urostomy / colostomy bags for 6 months to 1 year chemoports used in delivery of chemotherapy drugs liquid food (special diet) & palliative care prosthesis (cornea/breasts/femur etc) non-formulary drugs hearing aid suction machine metallic stent diapers ripple mattress oxygen concentrator Petty cash to Welfare Departments in emergency cases

All patients under the Bursary Program are visited at home by the MAKNA Home Visit Team, Volunteers and Staff to evaluate their treatment progress and socio-economic status.

Implemented to provide small unsecured loans to cancer patients, survicors and their families for income improvement through business activities, are interest free and require no collateral.
Young Cancer SURVIVOR SCHOLARSHIP ProgrammeYoung Cancer SURVIVOR SCHOLARSHIP Programme
This programme aims to support young cancer survivors wishing to further their tertiary studies. Underprivileged cancer survivors aged 25 or younger, with the right potential and interest, will be given assistance for a better future through education.

Our team of well-trained staff comprising volunteers and cancer survivors are constantly on hand to counsel cancer patients and their family members on coping with the emotional suffering of cancer.
Half Way HomeHalf Way Home
It is a house which allows patients and their caretakers who are from afar to stay for a short while waiting to receive treatment from the hospital. It makes it easy for the patient to travel back and forth if it is required for him or her to undergo treatment for certain duration. The current halfway house is located in Taman Mount Austin, Johor.

This reserve will allow the services to continue to serve cancer patients especially those from the public poor to gain access to the latest in cancer treatment even after 50 years .
Research can be conducted with continued funding.
Some of the projects are displayed herewith.
MAKNA conducts an average of 2 events a day.
Without a constant flow of Funds, all of MAKNA’s services would cease.
Patients, families, researches and public alike will not be able to benefit.
Hence, MAKNA is always in the top gear towards creating a sustainable income.
