Kiwanis Club of Burbank was founded in 1922.

If anyone has anything in writing or stories

about our history, please give to Cynthia for

writing an International required handbook Welcome to Burbank Noon Kiwanis. President Cynthia Faust led the meeting today. Luis Centeno, incoming 2nd VP led the invocation. He is definitely modern and uses his iPhone to find inspiring invocations.

Hazel Schrefel led the flag salute. We are fortunate to have Charissa

Wheeler play for us and Sam Engel, Sr. lead us in our patriotic songs and other Kiwanis traditional songs. Tradition is that those who deliver meals have permission to act up and not be fined. Sooooo, today it was Harvey Branman and Luis Centeno making extreme noise. We thank them for delivering in this heat.

Guests

We welcomed guests Armond, Doug

and Jean Chadwick, Brian, and Olga, back for a second time. Birthdays

We celebrated the birthday of Jackie Jones today. She is a fairly new member who has jumped in and worked hard on the gala and even showed up early in the morning to load bags into the Fill a Truck. Speaking of Fill a Truck

Thanks to all who came to Hazel and Harvey’s to fill the truck with the black bags. Our money is going to

Eliminate. Charissa Wheeler has an amazing program planned for the youth of Burbank called Burbank Singing Stars. We have begun working in committees to make it happen at the Castaway. She is holding the literature that will be handed out to the community.

Kellie Lupe-Smith took up a collection to be used that very day purchasing food and water for the fire fighters in Santa Clarita. Kellie and Cynthia went to Costco and purchased everything. Kellie took up a load on Wed. and Cynthia and Kellie took another load up on

Thursday. The fire fighters were thrilled and grateful. Thanks

for thinking of helping, Kellie. Don Pinkerton won the drawing today. The drawing is one way that our club maintains its club budget. Fines also are helpful for the budget. Diane’s fines last year raised around $2,000. Did you realize you had been acting up that much? Birthday and anniversary checks are

also welcomed to help our budget. Speakers

Brian Snodgrass , Senior Director for Youth Development for the YMCA, introduced our speakers, Doug and Jean Chadwick. They represent a non- profit involved with The Library Club.

43 small libraries have been built in the

last two years. The YMCA is going to have a small library in the entry office. The libraries are filled with books and kept filled for two years. It costs $1000 to sponsor one of the libraries which are built by Doug Chadwick who is a master builder. Books are free to take and eventually either those books or others are brought back to the little library, an ongoing project and wonderful asset to the literacy of young people. They are “seeding the community” with books.
