One person in seven belongs to a minority. Beginning in 2006, RTR Radiotelevisiun Svizra Rumantscha has been producing a series of film profiles covering the three language minorities in Switzerland's canton Grisons, as well as ten others throughout Europe. As part of the European Minority Film Festival in Husum, Germany, RTR invites you to the presentation of a DVD boxed set of the 13 profiles on 24 November 2012. They live between the Alps and the seas. Europe's minorities have much in common. For example, the Rhaeto-Romansch of canton Grisons and the Frisians of Schleswig- Holstein both live in areas where others like to spend their holidays. Both Grisons and North Frisia produce far more energy than is used by the local population, with electricity generated from water in the former, and from wind in the latter. The Frisians and Romansch share their homelands with other language groups. In canton Grisons, the Romansch have the Italian Grisonians and the Walser as neighbours, while the Frisians live alongside both Danish and German-speakers. The films, produced by Romansch-language television for its "Minorities in Europe" series over the past few years, are a striking record of the enormous commitment of these minorities and ethnic groups to preserving their languages and their cultures. Première in Husum RTR is the public-service radio and television broadcaster for Romansch-speaking Switzerland, and forms one of the enterprise units of SRG SSR. It broadcasts a 24- hour full-service Romansch-language radio station, a daily 10-12-minute TV news magazine programme from Monday to Saturday, and a weekly general-interest TV magazine programme of just under half an hour every Sunday. All of RTR's services can also be found on the internet at www.rtr.ch. As part of the fourth European Minority Film Festival in Husum, RTR will present a boxed set of DVDs featuring its films on 13 minorities in Europe. All of the films have a choice of Romansch, German, French, Italian or English soundtrack. The festival is being hosted by RTR's friends at the "Friisk Foriining", under the patronage of Minister Anke Spoorendong from Schleswig-Holstein and the President of the Federalistic Union of European Nationalities FUEN, Hans Heinrich Hansen.
