MINOR 2 Screenless granulator for hard and brittle plastics reinforced with fibre glass PA-GF Screenless granulators, sometimes called S-cutters, with low rotation speed (27 rpm), are well-suited for beside-the-press granulation of hard, brittle plastics such glass-fibre-reinforced, mineral and talc-filled engineering grade resins Screenless granulators are quieter, more energy efficient, produce better quality of regrind, and require less maintenance than conventional screen-type granulators for these types of materials

Low-speed, high-torque, screenless granulators are the most cost effective and efficient type of beside-the-press granulator for closed loop recycling of hard, thick brittle injection moulding sprues and some parts MINOR Series models are ideal for small sprues and parts and where a compact footprint or low feed height is required Screenless granulators are best suited for low-throughput meter-fed applications. The screenless design eliminates longs and the low rotor speed minimizes dust and fines to provide consistent performances wherever clean regrind is needed Beside-the-press granulators are designed for in-line recycling of sprues directly back into the injection process. Scrap is cut as it is generated and is not stored or transported within the plant minimizing the potential contamination of material Screenless granulator can handle occasional scrap parts, such as during a mould test or machine start up but pay attention not overload the granulator When recycling in-line, and the percentage of scrap is higher than the percentage of regrind allowed to be used, it may be necessary to convey the regrind material into an additional container to extend the capacity of storage and allow for easy removal of excess regrind from the in-line system A Customer Service Laboratory is available for testing and application assistance Minor Series feature a compact footprint with a vertically mounted gear motor The large top feed hopper design provides versatility to feed by hand, conveyor or robot

Advantages of screenless granulators - Low rotor speed (only 27 rpm) for uniform particle size and little dust

and longer life time of cutting tools - Screenless design ensures no longs and minimal maintenance. No

screen to clean between colour and/or material changes - Energy efficient – One third to half the power of conventional screen

granulators to process the same materials - Less noise than conventional higher speed granulators - The cutting knives are helically aligned on the rotor to make a

staggered cut that uses less energy and it less likely to jam. It also ensures no longs are present in the regrind

- Long service life of cutting tools - cutters and rollers are through-hardened and can be sharpened

- Simplifies access to cutting chamber, and no screen, for quick, easy clean-out

How screenless granulators work Large S-shaped blades pre-cut large parts and runners until small enough to be grabbed by the small roller cutters. Material is then cut between the roller cutters and the stationary or comb cutters for final size reduction. The regrind size is dependent on the cutter size and shape and is very uniform compared to conventional type granulators with a screen Since it is impossible for long pieces to pass through the cutting chamber, there is no chance for longs to end up in the regrind 2) Pre-sized plastic is re-introduced into the cutting chamber

1) Large primary pre-crusher (S-blades)

3) Final size is achieved via the toothed rollers without screening

Because the rotor turns slowly (27 rpm), screenless granulators generate less noise and dust than traditional screen-type granulators Two disadvantages are low output is slow and not as easy to change the regrind size

Hopper safety switch prevents granulator from starting if the cutting chamber door and hopper are not fully closed

Convenient top feed hopper is perfectly suited for manual feed or automated application by robot or conveyor

Cutting chamber

Hinged cover opens wide for easy efficient cleanout and maintenance (no-tools access) The through hardened cutting tools are made from high quality steel alloys for a long service life even when processing abrasive plastics The hardened, high-alloyed double sided steel cutters and combs are reversible for double life The cutters, rollers and combs can be sharpened Various cutter sizes and shapes are available to suit the application The inside of the cutting chamber is smooth for easy cleanout. The combs are bolted in place from underneath to avoid wear of the bolt head or runners to catch on the bolt head and create a backup of runners

Drive

Vertically mounted worm gear motor provides for a compact design and requires less maintenance than a belt drive

Collection bin

Stainless steel bin for clean and lightweight manual removal of regrind; equipped with a choice of 38 or 48 mm diameter outlet tube for vacuum take-off (hopper loader) Safety switch to prevents granulator from starting if collection bin is not fully in place Bin level inspection window standard Options: High level detector* with audio and visual alarm to protect the granulator against accumulation If the granulator is not evacuated properly, it can create more dust and fines because material stays in the chamber and gets pulverize

Swivelling outlet 360° to place the pipe for vacuum take-off in multiple positions for more efficient vacuum unloading and potentially eliminating vacuum hose from intruding into aisle

* The installation of the high level detector requires the addition of a control cabinet

Electrical cabinet

Fixed on the frame with ON/OFF, emergency stop button, electric circuit breaker Amperemeter system to prevent overfeeding of material or rotor blocking Electro-mechanical interlocks for chamber access Certification

Power voltage

400 Volt / 3 phase / 50 Hz - 460 Volt / 3 phase / 50 Hz (USA) Cable length 3 metres with European plug

Casters Large diameter, 2 locking and 2 swivel

Paint RAL 3004 (red) and 7047 (white) Solvent-free paint environmentally friendly

Options Auto Reverse System (ARS) to avoid rotor blocking in case of jams and aids the granulation of thicker-walled or tougher plastics In case of blocking a reverse of the rotor will automatically be activated to set knives and rollers free, so as the material that caused this abnormal rush of current The ARS measures if the resistance to the cutting blade is too high. When this is the case, it reverses the rotor and repositions the part to allow cutting from a different angle After a few seconds the rotor will automatically restart The electronic card allows the system to check the correct rotor rotation Auto reverse timer: This function affects an auto reverse temporarily in order to mix up the material and thus to prevent blocking in the cutting chamber. Pre-adjusted time : 100 seconds 3-way switch : Stop – Automatic cycle – Timer cycle Push button: On/Off The installation of the ARS option requires the addition of a control cabinet The selection of ARS option along with the high level detector option is less expensive because the electrical cabinet is already changed

Multiple hopper designs with lower or larger in feeds Upon request

Transparent hopper (made of Polycarbonate)

Regrind storage into a plastic bag directly underneath cutting chamber This configuration is suitable when the regrind is not re-used in-line and for small batch production This bagging frame provides a user-friendly solution when materials are changed frequently since only the granulator needs to be cleaned, and not any additional equipment High stand to place standard plastic bag (or other collection box) underneath (height under the outlet : 500 mm) Additional function with high level detection sending of a signal to Feedmax hopper loader, with connector and 6 metres cable, adjustable timer before stopping the granulator Option high level detector for regrind bin level must be taken with this option Higher powered motor 1.5 kW
