Introduction
The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) is an Indian government ministy.
Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate came into effect on 25 September 1985 after Bhopal Gas Exposion.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) is the nodal agency.
It is the administrative structure of the Central Government for the planning, promotion, co-ordination and
overseeing the implementation of India's environmental and forestry policies and programmes.
The primary concerns of the Ministry are implementation of policies and programmes related to conservation
of the country's natural resources including its lakes and rivers, its biodiversity, forests and wildlife, ensuring
the welfare of animals, prevention and control of pollution; afforestation, and land degradation mitigation.
While implementing these policies and programmes, the Ministry is guided by the principle of sustainable
development and enhancement of human well-being.

History At a time of Indira Gandhi's prime-ministership in 1966–1977 and 1980–1984 she introduced
environmental debates into the national political agenda.
In 1976 (during the Emergency) Indira Gandhi added Article 48A to the constitution stating that: "The State shall endeavour to protect and improve the environment and to safeguard the forests and wildlife of the country."
That resulted in transferred of wildlife and forests from state list to concurrent list of the constitution, thus giving the central government the power to overrule state decisions on that matter.
Such political and constitutional changes prepared the groundwork for the creation of a federal Department of Environment in 1980,
Which afterwards named into the Ministry of Environment and Forests in 1985.
