Trouble All Over the World

Acts 17:6 “. . . . These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here!”

Opponents of Paul and Silas were trying to get them arrested. So often, words spoken against the

church, even when those speaking care little for the truth, are as good as proclamations of the gospel.

They are in the scriptures as declarations of Who Jesus Is, and what His Church is, even though they

come from the mouths of enemies. They misrepresent Paul and Silas as troublemakers, and then add that

they proclaim that there is another king, not Caesar, but Jesus, and that they urge setting aside Caesar’s

laws.

The gentle apostles are actually no danger to any man, but it is true that the record will show that

Paul, Peter, John and the others, will turn the Roman Empire upside down in a generation. The Lord they

proclaim will make Caesar’s power seem irrelevant. But they are not the cause. The Church doesn’t make

the trouble in the world. The Trouble is already there. Death stalks the works of man. Sin robs us of our

consolations and peace. The church, by pointing the way of salvation, exposes the weakness of the world,

and the need for renewal and rebirth. The power of Caesar, which was mostly power to take, and tax, and

control, will seem like a child’s game before the choice presented to every man; whether or not

to confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord.

Produce News Do you realize, with our May Distribution, we are starting into our 3rd year of fighting hun-ger in our area! AMAZING! What an incredi-ble outreach this is! Well…..Our Produce Distribution in April was phenome-nal! Once again, due to our wonderful volunteer crew, the morning went very smoothly. We had a full house of produce and other food items once again, lots of good help, lots of clients to serve. To the volun-teers…..THANK YOU! We served 212 families with a total of 647 family members. On hand in April were folks from the Marketing Dept of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. Our Direct Distribuiton was selected as the Carroll County agency for the Foodbank’s current information gathering for their upcoming report to their donors. I made contact with our rep. at the Foodbank just to see if there was any feedback from their folks who were here talking to clients and taking photos. The following is the re-sponse: (DD—Direct Distribution...this is what our current program is called.)

The DD was incredible! Truly, we’ve been visiting pantries and hot meal sites all over the counties we serve, and the volunteers at the DD are creating a true sense of community in the church. The Minerva UMC team is amazing! So once again, Thank You Volunteers! You prove yourselves over and over to be vital in this outreach! Great Job! We don’t do this for any recognition, but it is nice to know, that we are doing it well. Blessings, Cheryl

Our job is to love others without stopping to in-quire whether or not they are worthy. That is not our business and, in fact, it is nobody's business. What we are asked to do is to love, and this love itself will render both ourselves and our neighbors worthy. Thomas Merton

Senior Group Lunch Seniors and friends will gather for a

Senior Group Luncheon on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, May 14th & 27th, at noon.

Come for this time of fellowship and good food!

Attention all Chefs in the Church In The coming months we will be putting together the next Minerva United Methodist Church cookbook. We

will be collecting new recipes from anyone who is willing to submit them. There will be recipe forms in the

narthex and church office soon for you to use to submit your favorite recipes. We would like a variety of new

things including crock pot, and gluten free items. Our project for the funds raised is to purchase new ovens

for our kitchen. With all of the cooking going on in the church these days, it has come to our attention is is

time for an update. We thought this would be a great way to begin. Hope you will be on board to help. We

are planning to have these ready before Christmas so you can use them for gifts.

The committee Nancy LeMoine and Carolynn Herstine
