Key issues : -Water shortage during dry season -Soil degradation -Deforestation and Biodiversity loss -Lack of livelihood -Unsustainable agricultural methods -Upstream-downstream conflict in benefit sharing 4. Rainforestation became an instrument in mainstreaming water, soil and biodiversity conservation that lead to a bigger constituency for advocacy-including youth and children. 5. Rainforestation helped provide strategic direction for an integrated approach to natural resources management in the island. 6. Rainforestation became a catalyst for farmers associations to initiate livelihood projects such as a tree nursery and honeybee keeping by the farmer-cooperator group. 7. Activities aimed at institutionalizing the Rainforestation project capacitated stakeholders, promoted community participation and upstream/downstream collaboration. 8. Lessons Learned: Importance of technical assistance (LGU-Academe Partnership); A strong farmer-cooperator group is essential in providing low-cost mechanism for sustainability; Creativity and integrity are important for local governments to get funding support; and Rainforestation is good politics.
