MIND MOVER #1There are 9 apples and 4 bags.
How can you put an odd number of apples in each of
the bags?1. Title: Mind Mover #12. Ideas: How did you try to solve
it?3. Answer: What is your final
answer?
MIND MOVER #1 SOLUTION
Tough one on the first day… Because 0 is an even number it can’t be used. If you sum 4 odd digits (any combination of 1, 3, 5, 7)
they always give you an even number. So you have to get creative…I heard some good
solutions…bag inside bag, eating an apple, removing a bag, etc.
There is no one correct answer but there is definitely lots of ways to try!
MIND MOVER #2
What 3 numbers are represented the by the 3 letters in this subtraction problem?
1. Title2. How did you solve the problem?3. What were the values of the letters?
A B A- C A
A B
MIND MOVERS #2 SOLUTION
I know that B has to be zero…because any number subtracting itself is zero!
So then start guessing and checking with three digit numbers ex: 101, 202, etc.
Fill in what you know. Get C to work A=1 B= 0 and C=9
A B A- C A

A 0 A- C A

MIND MOVER #3
A ball is dropped from a ladder 8 m high. It bounced up ½ the distance it fell each time. It bounced until it as it bounced UP to a height of 1 m. How many times had the ball bounced?
1. Title
2. Draw a diagram(s) to represent the question.
3. Solution
MIND MOVER #3 SOLUTION By drawing a picture
you can clearly identify what half the height looks like for every bounce.
It would take three bounces for the ball to be caught at a height of one metre.

We are building a fence that requires fence posts every meter. If you need to fence in a yard that is 3m by 5m; how many fence posts will you need?
1. Title
2. How did you start this problem?
3. Did your thinking change in order to find a solution?
4. Solution
MIND MOVER #4 SOLUTION
You might think this is a super easy problem. 5m sides needs 5 posts
and 3m sides each need three posts Anyone see a problem here? We need posts on every corner for a
fence!
3m
5m
In total we need 16 posts in total!
MIND MOVER #5 If it takes 4 students 3 minutes to put up 3 badminton
nets, how long will it take for 6 students to put up 3 badminton nets?
1. Title
2. Can you identify a pattern?
3. Did the pattern help you solve the question? If not how did you solve the question?
4. What is the solution?
MIND MOVER #5 SOLUTION
It takes 4 students 1 minute per net. So it would take 8 students 30 seconds per net If I follow the pattern 4 = 60 8 = 30 6 is half way between 4 and 8, so 45 seconds is between 60 and 30. Therefore it would take 6 students 45seconds per net; and if there
are 3 nets (3x45) is 135 seconds (2 minutes 15 seconds).
MIND MOVER #6 Add, subtract, multiply or divide all the digits 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 to reach
an answer of 10.

remember BEDMAS when doing your calculations.

A snail began to crawl out of a well which was 16 m deep. Each day the snail crawled 4 m up the side of the well, but at night the snail would slip back 1 m as he slept. How many days did it take to get out of the well?
