@MindandMatter_

Addressing the nascent and increasingly hot topic of how to lead mindfully and introduce and embed sustainable mindfulness interventions at work, this event will explore the ever-emerging evidence base for corporate mindfulness and introduce practitioners to new workable solutions.

This exciting and inspiring day will explore:

Who should attend?

This event has been researched with, and produced for, Senior leaders with an interest in mindfulness, as well as individuals working in HR, OH&S, Employee Engagement, Productivity, Talent, Change, Operations and Wellbeing. It will also be of interest to mindfulness practitioners – or budding practitioners – and the wider business community as a whole.

£26 billion – the estimated mental ill health costs for employers in the UK (City Mental Health Alliance)

Workers trained in mindfulness stay focused on tasks longer, and have improved memory for the tasks they performed (Levey et al, 2012)

7 out of 10 workers have "checked out" or are "actively disengaged" at their jobs (Gallup Studies, 2013)

Mindfulness training leads to improved work engagement and general wellbeing. It also improves job satisfaction, hope, optimism, resilience (Peter Malinowski and Hui Jia Lim, 2015)

In one study, a 12-week mindfulness at work program – meeting just once a week for 55 minutes – was found to reduce participants’ perceived stress by 36 percent, decreased sleep disturbances by 29 percent, and cut reported pain levels by more than a third (Sodexho Quality of Life Services)The latest neuroscience behind mindfulness and its

beneficial eects on cognitive performance

The ever-increasing knowledge base and evidence for mindfulness at work: hear what results it can achieve and how you can make the business case

Thought-provoking and inspirational anecdotes from senior leaders who already practice mindfulness and practitioners who have successfully introduced mindfulness in large and complex organisations

Sector-specific case studies: how others at similar organisations to yours are implementing sustainable, long-term solutions

The deep-rooted relationships between mindfulness and creativity, ethics, organisational change

Mind&Matter 2015 builds on the success of Mindfulnet.org’s hugely successful “Mindfulness at Work” conference, now in its third year, which last year attracted more than 220 attendees from 14 countries.

The neuroscience of innovation: How mindfulness can activate creative thinking and idea generation

In this session, Dr Tamara Russell will share how mindfulness meditation can awaken the right side of the brain – associated with art, metaphor, meaning and language. She will explain how getting to a place of being calm, focused and still – our most natural brain state – far from dulling our senses, actually allows us to embrace new ways of thinking and spark new ideas. Tamara will describe the positive mechanisms that emerge as a result of when we allow ourselves to de-clutter our negative thoughts, harness our vulnerabilities and tap into our "felt sense".

Dr Tamara Russell, Neuroscientist, author, clinical psychologist, martial arts expert and leading Mindfulness trainer

New research: The evidence-base for mindfulness at work interventions: does mindfulness improve utility – and how?

Dr Jutta Tobias, Lecturer, Cranfield University School of Management

Winner of Global Healthy Workplace Award 2015The GSK story: introducing mindfulness in a systemic way to an organisation of scientists and scaling it up geographically based on robust evidence

In this fascinating presentation, three speakers from GSK will talk about the introduction, implementation and evaluation of both a 16 week online mindfulness intervention and mindfulness as part of a wider learning and development initiative. Hear how they have overcome initial organisational-wide scepticism towards what could be perceived as a “fluffy fad” and identified mindfulness as a key strategic lever to step away from the chaos of everyday working life. An end-user of the programme will also share her experiences of how it has impacted her working life and how she has become an internal ambassador.
