PROMOTION POLICY (MOVING UP)
• 5.0 credits to be promoted to the 10th grade
• 11.0 credits to be promoted to the 11th grade
• 17.0 credits to be promoted to the 12th grade

GRADING
• 70% is passing
• To meet Athletic Eligibility student must pass 5 of the 6 courses in each semester.
• AP and Dual Enrollment classes receive an additional 7 points (only if passing)
TESTING REQUIREMENT• End of Course Exam
NOTE: These exams are calculated as 20% of the courses final grade.
HOW ARE COURSES SELECTED
• Core classes are selected/recommended by the teachers.– Teachers will meet with your student to discuss next year’s
recommendations.
• Elective classes are selected by the student (may be recommended by a current elective teacher)– Students will receive elective registration sheets
• Verification by parents– Parents will receive 2 verifications forms to confirm classes and make
adjustments to the selected courses.
• NOTE: Must have a total of 6 classes each semester
GPA• Your GPA is the average grade for all courses combined
• Fulton county uses numeric average
• Most colleges and HOPE use GPA
• Types of GPA– Core
– Weighted
– Unweighted
– Hope
• NOTE: Most colleges have their own way of calculating their GPA for admission (not all colleges do it the same)
HOPE GPA
• A 3.0 GPA is required by averaging core coursework, including failing grades, on a 4.0 scale
• Core Classes: English, Math, Science, Social Studies, World Language, Some CTAE Courses
• Honors points are removed and a .5 weight is added back for AP and Dual Enrollment courses only, up to a 4.0
• Courses taken in middle school are not calculated
• NOTE: All HOPE calculations are done by the Georgia Student Finance Commission (a 2.99 does not qualify)
