Auditions & Rehearsals Auditions are open to youth ages 8-18, with the summer production for ages 8 and up. Auditions and rehearsals take place at the Milpitas Community Center, 457 E. Calaveras Blvd. When arriving for auditions, auditioners must pay the participation fee and fill out an Audition Form (available for download at www.ci.milpitas.ca.gov in the Rainbow Theatre section under Parks & Recreation). The Audition Form must be signed by a parent/guardian before a child can audition. Once the fee has been paid and the signed form turned in, auditioners will be given a portion of the script to read and will be given a few minutes to become familiar with the scene. Auditioners will then enter the audition room in small groups and perform the short scene. When auditioning for a musical, auditioners will also sing and dance. Auditioners should come with a prepared song and bring the song’s sheet music (musical accompanist is provided). Should sheet music not be available, a CD or tape of the song without lyrics is acceptable. Should neither be available, auditioners will be asked to sing a standard song (i.e. “Happy Birthday” or “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star) with the musical accompanists. For a list of suggested songs, call the Rainbow Theatre Director at (408) 586-2777 a week in advance. Prior to entering the audition area, auditioners may be taught a short dance combination to perform as a part of the audition. All musicals auditions include callbacks. Should a child be called back, he/she will be required to read more scenes and sing a song taught at callbacks. If an auditioner does not receive a “callback,” it does not mean that he/she did not receive a part in the play. Once cast, participants attend rehearsals according to a schedule distributed for each production. Rehearsals are generally held Monday-Thursday, 4:00-6:00 pm (some shows might deviate from this schedule). Technical Rehearsals are held the week of opening night, 4:00-8:00 pm (4:00-9:00 pm for Summer production). New!

Leapin’ Lizards - it’s Annie! Set in the late 1920’s, follow this spunky orphan as she leaves the watchful eye of the New York City Orphanage’s head mistress (Miss Hannigan) to stay for a week in the lap of luxury in the home of billionaire Oliver Warbucks. Annie’s adventures include befriending a lovable mutt named Sandy, meeting President F.D.R., searching to find her parents, and foiling Miss Hannigan’s evil plans! With the songs “Tomorrow,” “I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here,” “Maybe,” and “It’s A Hard Knock Life,” this has become one of the most beloved musicals of all times. Rated G.

This is the endearing classic about a mouse named Stuart Little who is born into an ordinary New York family. All the charm, wisdom and joy of the E.B. White original are captured in this adaptation by Joseph Robinette, who also dramatized the highly acclaimed stage version of Charlotte’s Web. The many adventures - both big and small - of Stuart Little are brought vividly to life in this theatre presentation. The acting ensemble plays many human and animal roles in a series of delightful scenes that make up the marvelous maneuverings of a mild-mannered mouse trying to survive in a “real people’s world.” Rated G.

Stuart Little

HAIRSPRAY delighted audiences by sweeping them away to 1960’s Baltimore, where the 50’s are out and change is in the air. Loveable plus-size heroine, Tracy Turnblad, has a passion for dancing, and wins a spot on the local TV dance program, “The Corny Collins Show.” Overnight she finds herself transformed from outsider to teen celebrity. Can a larger-than-life adolescent manage to vanquish the program’s reigning princess, intergrate the television show, and find true love (singing and dancing all the while, of course!) without mussing her hair? Rated PG.
