Millennium GunThe Millennium Gun, by Lockheed Martin and Oerlikon Contraves, is a multirole, inner layer defense naval weapon system designed to defeat threats in the air, on the surface and during littoral and riverine operations. Its low weight makes it suitable for mounting on a number of ship classes, including maritime patrol cutters, frigates and aircraft carriers. The Millennium Gun is particularly effective against small, high-speed surface craft in littoral and riverine waters. Its rapid rate of re and Ahead ammunition offer a signicant improvement over conventional deck guns and ammunition. If called upon to support shore activities in riverine waters, the Millennium Gun produces a rate of re greater than 200 machine guns and at three times the range.The programmable Ahead ammunition delivers the maximum amount of concentrated energy on the target for superior lethality.
