FISHPOND

Look what happened to the fishpond dur-ing the Christmas holidays ! Thanks to Amanda and her helpers, you can now

see the fish.

Hi Arthur,

In class today we were discussing persuasive texts and we decided to persuade you (with lots of evi-dence of course) that a canteen at Millbank would be a good idea. Students work better when they are not hungry. Students are growing and some times parents underestimate how much food they need. When you are hungry you can’t concentrate. So if we had a canteen we could buy some extra food and with the extra “brain fuel” get back to work.

Most parents up here shop about once a week and the fridge gets very empty towards the end of the week. Millbank school likes its students to bring a healthy lunch. This gets harder when the fruit and veg-etables run out. A healthy food canteen would let us buy healthy food.

Willawarrin has a canteen run by parents, open Monday and Friday and they have 50 students. Most schools have a canteen and students enjoy eating the food. It’s unfair that Millbank doesn’t have a can-teen when it is not that much smaller than Willawarrin.

ATTENDANCE AWARDS

Students with 100% attendance get to go on an excursion at end of term. Students arriving late or leaving early more than 3 times in a term will not be eligible to attend the excursion.

All late arrivals and early leavers need to sign in or out at the office or in the classroom.

This is a Department of Education requirement.

Library News

2012 is the National Year of Reading. Millbank Public School is celebrating this with a number of activities throughout the year. The first is a reading competition between the students and the adults associated with the school eg. teachers, staff, volunteers and parents. As we are quite outnumbered we need as much help from parents as possible. Please write down the books you read and date read on one of our sheets and put it in the adult folder when you fin-ish a page. The second is a favourite book quote wall. Please write your favourite book quote on the quote wall in the library kitchen when you are in school.

Students will be choosing their books for “Books in Homes” this week and these will be distrib-uted at the end of the term.

Check out the library blog on the school website in the library section.
