3622 & 3622U SeriesFiberglass In-Swing French Doors

3622/3622U-2APRIL 2005

The 3622 WoodClad Series and 3622U UltraSeries Fiberglass In-Swing French Doors blend theenergy efficiency and overall aesthetic appeal ofwood French patio doors with the low mainte-nance and structural integrity of pultruded fiber-glass. Both series provide door units sized for com-mon 4-9/16” or 6-9/16” wall thicknesses, and inone, two, three or four panel configurations.Factory mulled transoms and sidelites available aswell. Outside, the durable painted finish won’tpeel or mildew – it never needs painting again. Butunlike vinyl, it can be painted to complement anyhome. The windows can be constructed to yourexact size specifications, subject to review byMilgard engineers.

Like all Milgard windows, doors and skylights, the3622 and 3622U Series Fiberglass In-Swing FrenchDoors carry a Lifetime Guarantee to the originalresidential owner covering both materials andlabor. Commercial projects receive a comprehen-sive 10-year warranty that covers both materialsand labor from the date of manufacture.

CONFIGURATIONS

The 3622 and 3622U Series is designed as an in-swingingFrench Patio Door with center swing or jamb swing capabilitiesin one, two and three-panel configurations. The 3622 and3622U Series In-Swing French Doors are designed to matchflawlessly with Milgard Fiberglass Picture Windows for tran-som configurations.

The 3622 and 3622U Series Doors come pre-hung for easyinstallation.

COMPONENTS

WOODCLAD FRAMEMilgard’s WoodClad In-Swing French Door composite frameconsists of a structural pultruded fiberglass foundation joinedwith an interior reveal of clear vertical-grain Douglas Fir. Beforeour doors leave the factory, we protect the wood against dirt, dust and moisture with a clear, non-staining sealer coat. Thiscoat also helps stains or paint apply more easily.

Milgard’s Ultra frame is based on the same structural pultrudedfiberglass foundation, with the interior reveal painted white.

FIBERGLASS

The door panels are 1-3/4” in thickness while jambs are avail-able in standard thicknesses of 4-9/16” or 6-9/16”. All wood sur-faces are factory sealed and ready for staining. Components areprecisely milled and meticulously joined for superior appear-ance and performance.

The pultruded fiberglass frame components are made fromreinforced pultruded fiberglass with a .080” structural wallthickness. The exterior frame is available in the followingbaked-on enamel finishes: white, sand, tan, hunter green andbrownstone. Consult with your Milgard representative for addi-tional color options.

Precisely milled corners are mechanically joined and butylsealed in an air and watertight seal. Further, each corner joint,as well as the lock mechanism, is reinforced with structuralextruded aluminum. Two nail fin setbacks are offered at 1-3/8”and 1”.

In the WoodClad Series, interior reveals feature clear vertical-grain Douglas Fir, factory sealed and ready for staining. Allwood components are precisely milled and meticulously joinedfor superior appearance. The Ultra Series interior reveals aclean, white painted finish.

NAIL FINA folding 1” wide nailing fin is standard for standard installa-tions, with setback positions offered at 1-3/8” and 1”. The finfolds outward, creating a sturdy flange for securing the doorinto an opening and acting as flashing. The fin may remainfolded for installation without a nailing fin.

GLAZING MATERIALWet-glazed silicone sealant adheres the glazing unit to the fixedpanel frame, which seals and cushions the glass. Rigid vinyl set-ting blocks are used to support the unit above the sill, prevent-ing glass slippage and glass-to-frame contact. Pultruded fiber-glass glazing (snap-in) bead is applied around the exterior edge. The 3622 and 3622U Series offers an ASTM E-774-81 Class-Arating.

GLASSInsulating tempered dual glazed glass, 7/8” in overall thickness,is butyl sealed for longevity and energy efficiency. The unit hasan ASTM E-774-81 Class A rating. Specialty glass options suchas Milgard SunCoat™ Low-E insulating glass, obscures andtints are available upon request.

GRIDSThe 3622 and 3622U Series Fiberglass In-Swing French Doorsoffer multiple grid configurations from six different grid options(refer to ‘Grids’ section of this manual). Grid patterns placedinside the glazing unit include 5/8” wide flat grids and 1-1/16” wide sculptured pattern grids. Snap-in wood grids

attach to the interior side of the window or door and removefor easy cleaning. Three additional options, as shown in the‘Grids’ section of this manual, produce the effect of simulateddivided lites.

Specify requirements for matching grid patterns at the time oforder. If match requirements are not specified, the grids maynot line up with those in another size or series of window.

Unless otherwise specified, the grids will divide the windowequally, with the bars set between 8-3/4” and 12” apart. A 4’0” x3’0” picture window would be four squares wide by threesquares high. A 4’0” x 3’0” single-hung would be four wide xfour high, however, because of the intermediate horizontal bar.

WEATHERSTRIPPINGExtruded soft vinyl compression weatherstripping maintainsweather-tight seal around jambs and head. At the bottom edgeof the door, a seal is created with the sill using double-fin rub-ber sill sweep weatherstrip material.

HARDWAREThe 3622 and 3622U Series comes standard with multi-pointlock of stainless steel, three locking points on jamb and keyedexterior (active side has multi-point operator; passive sideplaces flush bolts in head and sill). Handle sets available in mul-tiple finishes.

HINGESThree solid, polished brass 4-1/4” adjustable (vertical and hori-zontal) hinges with four 2-1/2” screws per hinge for attachment.

SILLDark Bronze anodized aluminum.

SCREENA heavy-duty, extruded aluminum screen, color-matched todoor, rolls on raised monorail track in head and sill – heavyduty, adjustable dual-roller housing places two in the head andtwo in the sill. Optional retractable screen unit also available, housed in an extruded aluminum frame unit color-matched toexterior door color. Magnetic latch mechanism secures door inclosed position to opposite jamb. Screen mesh used is charcoal-colored fiberglass mesh.

TRANSOMSArch and rectangular transoms are available mulled to the doorunit.

INSTALLATION

All 3622 and 3622U Series Fiberglass Out-Swing French Doorsare pre-hung and factory sized to fit into a framed opening, whether new or retrofit. The door will be 1/2” smaller than theframed opening to allow 1/4” clearance on each side and 1/2”clearance at the head.

Check each door rough opening for correct dimensions. Makesure each rough opening is level, plumb, and square. Sill mustbe flat and level.

Remove the shipping screw(s) found in the top (head) of thedoor, which secure the doors in the frame during shipping.

Apply a liberal amount of high quality silicone sealant acrossthe floor where the door sill will be located. Continue thesealant 12” up each door rough jamb. This will provide aweather-tight seal between the floor and the door sill.

With the doors closed, place door in opening. CHECK THEDOOR FOR LEVEL, PLUMB, AND SQUARE. From the interior, the gap between the top of door and the head frame should be1/8” uniform for proper operation of the door.

Install wood shims behind on each jamb. Be sure to shimbehind each hinge to give them proper stability and support. Ifusing the exterior nail fin, place nails through the fin aroundthe jambs and head. The center screw on each hinge has beenremoved. Use the long screws provided with unit to secureeach hinge through the jamb, the shims, and into the framing, providing additional door support. Do not over-tighten, causingjamb deflection.

On the exterior: at the very minimum, use head flashing when-ever possible for additional protection against water infiltration.

Door hardware attachment: Refer to instructions containedinside the hardware carton.
