HALL CHAIR

Piers Harrison

a.k.a Vestiphobia

from Wirral, Cheshire

course – Human Biology

floor – 14

Hi I’m Piers and I am your Hall Chair.

It is my job to co-ordinate committee to make sure that you all have the opportunity to get

involved with everything towers and the University have to offer whether that’s getting involved in

IMS (Intra Mural Sport), RAG (Raising and Giving), Action (Volunteering), Media or The energy

league (Environment). We will find something for you.

Towers Hall is the tallest hall with the widest appeal and no matter who you are i bet you will fit

into towers life, as well as I did on my first day and the following days after. Fresher’s fortnight is

the best 17 days of your life giving you a crash course in Towers Life and the award winning Lufbra

Experience. So I look forward to meeting all of you new freshers and seeing all the returners come

this next academic year. Let’s make this another Award Winning year for the Mighty Towers Hall.

ACTION

Hi, we’re Milena and Chloe the Towers Action reps.

Action is the student body that organises all the volunteering in Loughborough whether that’s

painting an autistic home, chopping down trees for woodland conservation or helping out with Kids

art days, we do it all.

There is something for everyone in action as if you don’t like manual labour then you can help

teach children with learning disabilities or even have a dance at the annual Action tea dance.

We love getting involved in Towers and we’re your doorway into doing exactly that. So if you want

to sign up for a weekly project or even just get involved with an afternoon A-Team (project) come

speak to us. If you’re keen to get involved we have something for you and if all that isn’t enough

you get a free T-shirt and chocolate bar just for getting involved.

So if Action sounds like something you want to do just let us know, we have a project with your

name on it!

Milena Alcorta a.k.a Google Translator from Eijesden, Netherlands course – Sport Management floor 7 Hey I am Milena and I am your action rep for towers. Together with Chloe we try to involve you guys in volunteering in and around Loughborough to help out the community. Hope you have a great time and can’t wait to meet all of you!:) xx

IMS

Hello Freshers! We are James, Joe, Liam and Ella, and we are your Committee Sports Secs for the 2012/13 academic year. Our job as Sports Secs is to get you as involved as possible with Intramural Sport (IMS). With Loughborough University offering over 30 individual sports ranging from Athletics to Water Polo and Ultimate Frisbee to Rock-It-ball, as well as countless one day events to get involved in throughout the year… you’re bound to find a sport that is right for you. For certain, popular sports like football, rugby, netball and hockey we will hold trials during fresher’s week, so feel free to bring down any sporting equipment you own, as they may come in handy. The main objective in taking part in these sports is to prove to all other halls on campus (especially Butler Court) that Towers are, and always will be the best! Our high hall spirit and comradery is second to none. IMS sport in towers is quite possibly the most enjoyable and fun ways to get to know your fellow hall mates and towers affiliates throughout the year and beyond university. So we encourage you, for the first two weeks of fresher’s week, get involved in as many sports as humanly possible! You’re guaranteed to have the time of your life! Love, your fellow Sport Secs xx

Best Towers moment: swapping round my two floor mates rooms when they both went home for the weekend. Sporting icon – Lance Armstrong/ Usain Bolt

Joe Strickett a.k.a Red Face from Peterborough course – Quantity Surveying floor 16 Sports: Football, Badminton, Golf, Skiing, Cheese rolling, table tennis, beer pong. Interesting fact: can bench 180kg with one arm Best towers moment: Towers winning the IMS canoeing at IMS presentation evening Sporting Icon – Rory Mclroy/ Ashley Cole East Park Cup The East Park Cup is exclusive to Towers and Butler Court, and began in 2011 to officially recognise the friendly but competitive, rivalry between the two halls in IMS. This year Towers triumphed; will we be able to do it again? If you're not playing, come along to support a variety of sports and show Butler who the better hall is. IMS allstars The aims are - to recognise the quality and reward players in the IMS programme; - to provide opportunities to progress on a pathway into the club; - to raise the profile of the club within campus; - to reward players in the club by way of selection for the team of the season. If you do not make it into the University sports teams in your first year this is an excellent way to selected in your 2nd second year, so this is why we encourage everyone to get involved with IMS. The All-stars take place towards the end of the year and is an important part of the IMS calendar with huge crowds attending the games.

MEDIA

Hi! We’re Cveti and Sean your Media Reps.

We are both in charge of running Towers Hall media making videos, taking photos, creating

posters, and running media campaigns throughout the year. Cveti is also in charge of creating,

designing and producing the Towers magazine – Mile High, and Sean handles the website and

technical bits and pieces.

We were the first hall ever to create our very own media committee comprising of a number of

students from within the hall all helping out with making posters, taking pictures and video on

nights out and at sports games, and generally coming up with ideas for future media. If any of you

new freshers are media crazy and fancy getting involved then feel free to ask more about the

Towers Media Committee!

Vice Chair

George Martindale

a.k.a Margaret’s Bitch

from Burges Hill

course – English Drama

floor – 5

Hello Freshlings,

I am George and I’m your Vice Chair. This basically means not only am I the Hall Chairs bitch but I

am also the FREEC Rep in Towers. FREEC stands for Food Residential Ethical Enviromental and

Campus Watch – basically if you guys have any complaints with your room or food then I am the

guy to moan at. I am also in charge of saving energy in Towers, last year we saved 900 quid

which, in the union, equals a lot of alcohol.

For those that care I do English and Drama (‘gayboy’, ‘do a real degree!’) and yeah that is

basically it. You are lined up to have one of the best 2 weeks or so of your life. There will be stages

when you are too tired/hungover to do stuff but seriously try and do as much as possible. You

won’t regret it. If you see me around come say hi I am around to help you guys and answer any

questions (however stupid you may think they are)

Nice one,

George x

Warden Team

There is a a main warden, Matt Best, who is also a lecturer here at the

University. It is his responsibility to make sure that the hall is running

properly and provide help if needed. He doesn’t live in Towers.

There are 3 sub wardens who live in flats on Floor 9 of Towers, always a

door knock away! During non-office times, these guys are the people to go to if you have a problem, lost your room key or if someone is seriously

unwell. They have a number that you will be given when you arrive, as I

guarantee you will need them during Freshers week.
