    QUESTION M13:

Does sound design amplify establishment, development and fulfilment?

    ANSWER:

Yes, the sound design is structured in a way that it complies with the intensity of the events

within the film. If the film is at a point of low intensity, the sound design will correspond

    with the intensity level.

In the establishment of the film the sounds that will be heard are sounds that are associated

with a production line, making the sonic metaphor of the fact that the characters are all

followers of the trend and no one is unique.

This mechanical sound disappears when the characters are in the other worlds because the

mechanical assembly line sound is associated with the establishment of the characters as

    followers.

As the events become more intense in the development of the narration, the sounds that

accompany the visuals will become more intense. One can do this through the use of the

sound effects that will be added in order to further the visuals. For example, the use of

scraping sounds (nails on a chalkboard) can be used in scenes where the audience is meant to

    feel on edge or disgusted.

The fulfilment of the film sees Madison facing her fears and going against the group. The

sounds in this scene are very isolated and are not mixed together unlike the other sounds inthe scenes previous to the last. This will show how the character has become herself again

and she has decided to bravely stand on her own feet and become her own master.

So in essence, the sound design will correspond with the events of the narrative therefore it

will amplify the establishment, development and fulfilment, making for a sonically pleasing

    sound design.

    QUESTION N2:

N2 - Is conceptual relevance clearly established and fulfilled?

    ANSWER:

Conceptual relevance talks to the events that propel the story forward but mainly talks to the

events that curate the protagonist to alter the current parameters of their world. In The

Darlings Madison sees a glitch in her all too perfect world, making her question her main

form of comfort, the group and their expectations.

Because the conceptual relevance talks about the events that curate the protagonist to alter the

current parameters of the their world, The Darlings clearly does establish the conceptual

relevance because of the way that Madison begins to see the glitches in the system and she

starts to question the way things happen within the group environment. This questioning

leads to her seeing the way things really are in the world of the group which in turn, allows

for a change in the current parameters of the situation that she finds herself in.

Because the conceptual relevance is established and the character in the film is able to change

the outcome of her situation at the end of the film, the film does establish and fulfil the

    conceptual relevance effectively.

    QUESTION M12:

Does shot design amplify establishment, development and fulfilment?

    ANSWER:

Initially the world of reality will be shot stylistically with flowing movements making it seem

like a dream and the world of Nirvana will be shot handheld to make it seem like reality. This

illustrates how the character is still corrupted by the groups perceptions and beliefs. This

reverses towards the end of the film where the Nirvana world is shot stylistically to show that

it is a dream and reality is shot with handheld because the character can now distinguish

between the two worlds and knows which one is the truth.

At the beginning of the film when a character is meant to be portrayed as isolated they will be

shot with a shallow depth of field showing that they are alone because they are the only one

that is in focus. When the character loses their identity and becomes part of the group, the

focus will then become deep showing that the character is one with the group. When the

character regains their identity the depth then becomes shallow again.

The character will also be shot with a locked off tight frame at the beginning of the film to

show that she is trapped and as the character starts to actualise her freedom the frame

becomes wider and wider. Once the character is in control of her beliefs and has obtained her

freedom the character is in control of the frame and the camera will move with her.

Because of the above mentioned points, the films shot design will amplify the development

    and fulfilment.
