Dear Oak Hill Families,
Last week was a wonderful reminder that Oak Hill is a community school. We saw a tremendous
response to our school conferences as families spent time with their child’s teacher learning about their child’s
growth during the first two months.
October was also Bully Prevention month. At Oak Hill, we teach school-wide bully prevention throughout the
year, as well as provide classroom lessons that focus on the topic. Our goal is to help support a safe and caring
culture where all students feel validated.
As we move into November, one of the highlights of the year for me is seeing our students celebrate Veteran’s
Day. In preparation for our Veteran’s Day assembly on November 11th at 8:00 am, we extend a warm wel-
come to our families, particularly those with active or former armed services members, to our celebration.
Please make plans to join us if possible.
Finally, we have been busy at Oak Hill Community School providing information on the bond referendum to
our families and staff. This referendum is potentially the most important ballot question for our community,
and we want to be sure each of you has the information needed to make a decision on November 8th. You can
always call me or ask questions directly to Superintendent Jett at [email protected].
Thank you!

Counselor’s Corner
Congratulations to the following 5th grade students who have been selected as Student Council Representatives for the 2016/17 school year: Henry Burkstrand, Addison Olson, Suzan Sok, Ben Schmidt, Ella Roggeman, Fahimo Gelijire, Julia Christman, Austin Kunz, Sumeyo Sharif, Alex Walk, Jenna Ammundson, and Benjamin Reker. The Student Council will provide an extension experience for students to develop leadership skills that support posi-tive programming at Oak Hill Elementary.
Our first project will be a food drive for the Salvation Army from November 7, 2016, to December 19, 2016. For the last week of this food drive (December 12 to 16) we will have a special challenge for Oak Hill students to bring enough food to circle around the hallways at school. More information on this special challenge will be an-nounced. In the meantime, please consider having your student(s) participate, regularly, by placing their non-perishable food item in the food barrel near the front office.
Thank you and we look forward to the excitement and satisfaction that comes from helping others.
-Nancy Streng, School Counselor
