NOTE: African Museum was a record label formed by Gregory Isaacs and Errol Dunkley around 1970, the first releases on the label were Look Before You Leap by Gregory Isaacs and Movie Star by Errol Dunkley. By 1972 the two had gone their seperate ways, Dunkley set up Silver Ringand Isaacs carried on with the label alone. Consequently most releases have Gregory Isaacs placed as either the vocal performer or producer. In 1984 the american reggae label Heartbeat released a compilation, Top Ten: An African Museum Selection, which was a round up of ten AfricanMuseum singles chosen by Gregory himself.

AWARE OF YOU LOVE (1980) (the text of the back sleeve of the Kouchie Vibes compilation says that this song is from 1980, but some reggae stores place that song in 1979) (The text on the back of the sleeve also says AWARE OF LOVE)

NOTE: there is probably a shorter version than the one included on Kouchie Vibes (4m58) as the one featured on YouTube last 3m19... is this the one coming from Romantic Nights? Apart from the 12-inch single ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE, this song doesn’t seems to have been released on a 7-inch single.

BAD BOY BUSINESS (1988) (This song was recorded in 1988, but might have been released for the first time only in 1989. So far I haven’t found a single for that song. I think it was only available through the ‘Music Works Showcase 89’ and ‘Greensleeves Sampler 3’

compilations. The label of the ‘Showcase’ compliation mention 1988. It may have been printed in late 1988 and released in early 1989. The compilation ‘ Greensleeves Sampler 3’ features a longer version. The song was later included as a bonus track on the 2002 re-issue of the album‘Get Ready’ (The ‘Greensleeves Reggae Classics’ Edition). It was also included on the 2011 4-CD compilation ‘Reggae Legends’.)

BODYGUARD (THIRD RECORDING) (1991) (There was seven studio versions of BODYGUARD released over the years. The FIRST VERSION was produced by Joseph Hoo Kim in 1979 (regular length: 3m31, extended version 6m43). The SECOND VERSION was produced

by Augustus ‘Gussie’ Clarke in 1988 (regular length: XmXX, extended version: 5m56). The extended version can be found as the bonus track on the album ‘Get Ready’. The THIRD VERSION was produced by Bareback and was available on the ‘Take A Ride’ compilation in 1991 and can alsobe found on the 1997 compilation ‘Ras Portrait’ (length: 3m28). The FOURTH VERSION was produced by Donovan Germain around 1992 (the recording year is a guess). This one wasn’t released on a single, but was featured as a bonus track on the Penthouse compilation CD ‘Heads OfGovernement’ in 1996 (length: 4m04). The FIFTH VERSION is a remix of the 1988 version made by Andre Tyrell, released in 1994 on the Rookie 7-inch single (length: XmXX). To this day, this remix remains exclusive to the single. The SEVENTH VERSION is the acoustic version recorded forthe ‘Inna De Yard’ album in 2008 with nyabinghi drums (length: 4m51). Eventually, I will find out which version is featured on the compilation ‘Maximum Replay’.)

CHANGING WORLD (1987) (this song is not available on any Mighty Diamonds album) [according to Ernie B, this LP was initially issued in 1987, but when I look on Discogs for the Rohit discography, it make more sense that it was issued in 1990] [NiceUp.com also place the Rohit CD in 1990] What

is possible is that the vinyl (Hot Wax Records) was issued in 1987 and the Rohit CD was made a few years after. Ernie B wrote on his website: Alvin Ranglin (GG) production from 1987. All tracks are the "What The Hell Police Can Do" rhythm]. I checked on Rootks Knotty Roots and there

was a rithm named ‘What The Hell The Police Can Do’ in 1986 for the song of the same title recorded by Echo Minott (produced by Jammy).

I haven’t seen a picture of the label, and the back sleeve doesn’t say the year thiscompilation was issued. Many different informations on the Internet about the year it was issued: Ernie B says 1993, ReggaeRecord.com says 1994, but the owner of PenthouseRecords.free.fr says 1992. I think this source is the most reliable and it also makes more sense considering thatthe singles were issued in 1991. The website ReggaeRecord.com name the riddim: ‘Feeling Soul/Fire Burining’.SINGLES: Not all of the songs seems to have been issued on singles. I made a quick search, but more could be found: Crying Fool (by Tiger) (1991), Bad Boy (by Leroy Smart) (1991)

OTHER: I needs to be double checked: Starting Over: Tribute To Japan. Label: Yumi & June, 2011

webpage, so this needs to be double checked. The length 5m33 secs doesn’t fit with any of the versions that I know. Here is the text coming from my main research: There was six studio versions of BODYGUARD released over the years. The FIRST VERSION was produced by Joseph HooKim in 1979 (regular length: 3m31, extended version 6m43). The SECOND VERSION was produced by Augustus ‘Gussie’ Clarke in 1988 (regular length: 4m25, extended version: 5m56). The length for the regular version was taken from the ‘Maximum Replay’ compilation and the length forthe extended version was taken from the ‘Get Ready’ CD bonus track. The THIRD VERSION was produced by Bareback and was available on the ‘Take A Ride’ compilation in 1991 and can also be found on the 1997 compilation ‘Ras Portrait’ (length: 3m28). The FOURTH VERSION wasproduced by Donovan Germain around 1992 (the recording year is a guess). This one wasn’t released on a single, but was featured as a bonus track on the Penthouse compilation CD ‘Heads Of Governement’ in 1996 (length: 4m04). The FIFTH VERSION is a remix of the 1988 version madeby Andre Tyrell, released in 1994 on the Rookie 7-inch single (length: XmXX). To this day, this remix remains exclusive to the single. The SIXTH VERSION is the acoustic version recorded for the ‘Inna De Yard’ album in 2008 with nyabinghi drums (length: 4m51).This last one is not really astudio version, but decided to included on the list.

NOTE 1: The song CHRISTMAS ROCKERS features Dennis Brown, Trinity, Dhaima, Mighty Diamonds, Ruddy Thomas, Harold Butler, PrinceMohammed.NOTE 2: Both songs LOVE ME GIRL and I’M STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU are featured on the 1980 album ‘Tell Me What’s Wrong’ but the 7-inch singlefeatures diffrent mixes and deejay vocals made by I Roy.NOTE 3: The linar notes of the CD ‘Too Much Iron In The Fire’ says that the song JAH JAH BLESS THE DREADLOCKS was produced by Roderick‘Blackbeard’ Sinclair, but everywhere else I see Bunny Lee (7-inch labels...). Blackbeard was working with Bunny Lee at his record shop in thelate sixites, and probably for several years that followed. The sleeve notes mention that his first production was Delroy Wilson’s PROPHECY MUSTFULLFIL (1975). The sleeve also mentioned that the song ‘Jah Jah Bless’ is from 1976, but the Attack single has 1975 printed on it.NOTE 4: Four songs are exclusive to the Jamaican version of the album The Roots Is There: LIVE FOR TODAY, RED ROSE, UNRULY PICKNEY andWHEN THE RIGHT TIME COME (1982 recording). UNRULY PICKNEY was also released on a 7-inch and 12-inch singles.NOTE 5: According to my research so far, the song PRAISE IS ALL WE GET doesn’t seems to have emerged on any 7-inch or a 12-inch single. Itwas included as a bonus track on the Hitbound CD ‘I Need A Roof’. It’s probably from 1979, as the two other bonus tracks (PLASTIC WORLD andTHERE’S NO ME WITHOUT YOU) were included on a 12-inch single released in 1979.NOTE 6: Is the song WAGING WAR featuring Tabby (Dreadlock Rock soundtrack, 2007) seems to be an edit version of the song that was includedon the 1981 album ‘Dreadlock Rock’. The booklet of the soundtrack mention that the song was recorded in 1979.NOTE 7: There seems to be material produced by Davis Sinclair (aka: Tappa Zukie) outside of the album Leaders Of Black Countries. According tothe bonus tracks on the 2011 CD Leaders Of Black Countries, there might be singles for the following songs: PIRATES (the DJ version featuringTullot). There is also PLEASE BE FAIR and DON’T BURN YOUR BRIDGES included on the 2011 CD Editon that might be produced by Zukie.NOTE 8: Even if the label has 1974 written on it, this single was issued in 1977. I found the confirmation in the UK Reggae Charts.
