WELCOME LETTER

Welcome Letter from the Chairperson of the Independent Midwives Association of Namibia

The Independent Midwives Association of Namibia offers the warmest welcome in Wind-hoek, Namibia, to the Africa Regional Conference of the International Confederation of Mid-wives (ICM).

Our association is pleased to welcome you in Namibia, the land of the brave. Namibia is home to beautiful cities with various cultures reborn from its colonialization history. Our sta-ble democratic government makes it possible for our guests to move comfortably through our beautiful land with protected natural resources, an endless horizon and a contrasting geography. The theme for the Africa Regional Conference “midwives leading the way for quality and equity in Africa”, speaks to the challenges of delivering midwifery care in our vast and sparsely populated county. This conference will therefore bring forth an opportunity for Namibian and African midwives to benefi t from shared experiences, wisdom, aspira-tions and the knowledge needed to provide high-quality midwifery care for the benefi t of women, newborns and their families.

The Africa Regional Conference is going to be an important event for our profession that will allow us to share not only a space for sharing midwifery knowledge, practice, but also for rich exchanges of experiences, learning and challenges. It is an opportunity for establishing relationships among midwives, partners and the various organizations in the region and cultivating friendship that strengthens the different leaderships.

We are aware that important changes are taking place throughout the world and our region is aware of these. This conference will continue providing all the necessary and important tools to pave the way towards a successful professional future.

ICM is committed to strengthening midwifery associations, showing progress made in the last triennium, supporting regulatory frameworks that legislate for the good of the midwife-ry world which will guarantee quality maternal and newborn care in each of our countries.

L'Association Indépendante des Sages-Femmes de Namibie vous souhaite la bienvenue à Windhoek, Namibie, à la Conférence Régionale pour l’Afrique de la Confédération Interna-tionale des Sages-femmes (ICM).

Notre association a le plaisir de vous accueillir en Namibie, terre des braves. La Namibie abrite de superbes villes aux cultures variées dû à son histoire coloniale. Notre gouverne-ment démocratique stable permet à nos invités de s’installer confortablement sur notre magnifi que territoire aux ressources naturelles protégées, à l’horizon sans fi n et à la géogra-phie contrastée. Le thème de cette Conférence Régionale pour l’Afrique est : « Les sages-femmes ouvrent la voie à la qualité et a l’équité en Afrique », abordant les défi s de prodi-guer des soins maïeutiques dans notre vaste pays faiblement peuplé. Cette conférence sera l’occasion pour les sages-femmes namibiennes et africaines de partager leurs expériences, leur sagesse, leurs aspirations et leur savoir, afi n de pouvoir prodiguer des soins de haute-qualité au profi t des femmes, des nouveau-nés et des familles.

Cette Conférence Régionale pour l’Afrique représentera un évènement important pour notre profession qui offrira, non seulement un espace d’échange pour partager le savoir et la pratique au regard des soins des sages-femmes, mais donnera également lieu à de riches échanges d’expériences, d’apprentissage et de défi s. C’est l’opportunité d’établir des rela-tions entre les sages-femmes, les partenaires et les organisations présentes dans la région, et de cultiver ainsi une amitié qui contribuera à renforcer les différentes directions.

D’importants changements s’opèrent actuellement dans le monde et notre région en est consciente. Cette conférence continuera dans le futur à fournir tous les outils importants et nécessaires pour ouvrir la voie à un avenir professionnel prospère aux sages-femmes.

L'ICM s'est engagée à renforcer les associations de sages-femmes, en montrant les progrès accomplis au cours de ces trois dernières années, en soutenant les cadres réglementaires qui légifèrent pour le bien du monde des sages-femmes et qui garantiront des soins de qualité aux mères et aux nouveau-nés dans chacun de nos pays.

Welcome Letter from ICM Board Members for Africa region

Welcome midwives to the International Confederation of Midwives’ Africa Regional Confer-ence in Windhoek, Namibia.

This year our theme aligns with ICMs 2017–2020 Strategy that focuses on Quality, Equity and Leadership.

The conference theme is “midwives leading the way for quality and equity in Africa”. Each day will focus on quality, equity and leadership Women and their families have a fundamen-tal human right of access to midwives as the health professionals most equipped to support them with respectful, individualised and high-quality care throughout the childbirth con-tinuum. Quality midwifery care comes through education, regulation and strong midwives association.

As the global representative organization for midwives, ICM is committed to leading the way in advocacy efforts to raise demand for midwives and to advocate for equitable access to midwife-led services for women, because we know that midwives are the key to improving health outcomes for women and their newborns during childbirth.

This regional conference enables midwives from Africa to share their experience, wisdom, aspirations and knowledge to Lead the way for quality and equity. Your presence here signi-fi es the importance of unity, leadership, and equitable representation not only for midwives, but for the women and newborns whose lives are forever changed by the care of midwives like you.

Bienvenue aux sages-femmes à la Conférence Régionale pour l’Afrique de la Confédération internationale des sages-femmes, tenue à Windhoek, en Namibie.

Cette année, le thème correspond à la stratégie 2017–2020 de l’ICM qui se concentre sur la Qualité, l’Equité et le Leadership. Le thème de cette conférence s’intitule “les sages-femmes ouvrent la voie à la qualité et à l’équité en Afrique". Chaque jour se concentrera sur la qua-lité, l’équité et le leadership. Les femmes et leurs familles ont le droit humain fondamental d’accès aux sages-femmes en tant que professionnels de la santé les mieux équipés pour les aider, de manière respectueuse, individualisée, et avec des soins de haute qualité tout au long de la naissance. Des soins maïeutiques de qualité passent par la formation, la règle-mentation et de puissantes associations de sages-femmes.

En tant qu’organisation mondiale représentative des sages-femmes, l’ICM est déterminée à ouvrir la voie aux efforts de plaidoyer visant à accroître la demande de sages-femmes et à plaider pour un accès équitable aux services dispensés par les sages-femmes aux femmes, car nous savons que les sages-femmes sont la clé pour améliorer les résultats en matière de santé des femmes et leurs nouveau-nés pendant l'accouchement.

La conférence régionale permet aux sages-femmes d’Afrique de partager leur expérience, leur sagesse, leurs aspirations et leurs connaissances pour ouvrir la voie à la qualité et à l’équité. Votre présence ici témoigne de l’importance de l’unité, du leadership et d’une re-présentation équitable, non seulement pour les sages-femmes, mais aussi pour les femmes et leurs nouveau-nés dont les vies sont à jamais changées par les soins des sages-femmes comme vous.

Oral presentation guidelines

Presentation language and durationThe ICM Africa Regional Conference offi cial languages are English and French. All presenta-tions have been programmed according to their abstract language. The session title indi-cates in which language the session will be conducted.

The time reserved for a presentation varies according to the presentation/ session type• Oral Presentation – 20 minutes (15 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for discussion)• Workshop – 45 minutes (including discussion)Authors are asked to follow the assigned times.

Presentation formatPlease prepare your presentation preferably using the most recent version of PowerPoint 16:9 ratio (note the older version – 2003–2013 – are also supported).

Supported fi le types:• Presentation: PPT, PPA, PPTA, PPTX, PDF• Video: AVI, MPG, MKV, MOV, MP4, WMV• Audio: WMA, MP3, WAV• Pictures: JPG, GIF, BMP, TIFFWhen saving your fi nal presentation to the USB stick do not forget to make sure to include your video fi les and all links to these multimedia fi les.

Uploading your presentationYou are kindly asked to submit your presentation at least 90 minutes before the session starts to an assistant in the room where your presentation will take place. The assistant will upload it to the computer. During the presentation, you will control your own slideshow us-ing a remote control.

The presentations must be delivered to the rooms during coffee and lunch breaks or in the morning before the programme starts.

At the start of your sessionAll speakers are requested to be present in the lecture room 10 minutes before the session starts. Please, do not come at the last minute with your own computer: you will NOT BE ABLE to connect it. If any problems occur, there will be assistance staff in each lecture room.

Poster presentation guidelines

Poster mounting and removingYou should bring your poster with you in print form already to the Conference site. Your post-er should be mounted on September 12. All posters must be hung by the first poster session starting at 12:30.

Each poster board will have a specifi c number. Please make sure to mount your poster on the poster board with the number corresponding to the number assigned to your poster presentation. Should you need any assistance with the poster display, we will happily assist you in the registration area.

Posters should be removed on the last day of the Conference (September 14) by 11:00. Post-ers remaining past 11:00 will be removed and discarded by the organizers.

Poster sessionPosters will be displayed for the entire duration of the conference. The allocated times for poster sessions are:

• Thursday, September 12, 12:30 – 13:30• Friday, September 13, 12:30 – 13:30

Poster authors / presenters are expected to be present by their posters during the poster ses-sion to present their work and answer any questions from the audience.

Toutes les présentations ont été programmées en fonction de la langue de leur résumé lors de la soumission. Le titre de la session indique la langue dans laquelle elle sera tenue.

Si vous avez besoin d’aide concernant la mise en place de votre affi che, nous serons heureux de vous assister dans la zone d’inscription.

Les affi ches doivent être retirées le dernier jour de la Conférence (le 14 Septembre) à 1 heures. Les affi ches restantes après 11 heures seront retirées et jetées par les organisa-teurs.

Her Honorable Julieta Vatjizaiye Kavetuna Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services, Namibia

I obtained a number of formal Qualifi cations and trainings in a variety social fi elds like health and gender with an addition of an Honours Degree in planning both project and policy. My life is defi ned by been an activist in student movements, youth and woman organizations and representation of my community in governmental, non – govern-mental structures both at national and international platforms. I am an advocate of quality mental health care provision, who serve as an Ambassador of Change in Namibia.

With a vast experience in the employment of the private sector, devel-opmental organizations and government structures, I possess a vast knowledge in project and programme planning, implementation, fi nancing, management, monitoring and evaluation. Despite that strong administration credentials, I have been serving the Namib-ian people with dedication as a Member of Parliament for the last 10 years. I have been the deputy Minister of Youth since 2010 and was moved to the Ministry of health in the same capacity since 2015.

J'ai obtenu un certain nombre de diplômes et de formations offi -cielles dans divers domaines de la société, tels que la santé et l'égalité des sexes, avec en plus un diplôme spécialisé en planifi cation, à la fois en projet et en politique. Ma vie est défi nie par mon activisme au sein des mouvements étudiants, d’organisations de jeunes et de femmes et par la représentation de ma communauté dans des struc-tures gouvernementales et non gouvernementales, à la fois sur des plateformes nationales et internationales. Je suis une défenseuse de la prestation de soins de santé mentale de qualité, ambassadrice du changement en Namibie.

Avec une grande expérience dans l'emploi du secteur privé, ainsi qu’au sein d’organisations de développement et de structures gou-vernementales, je possède une vaste connaissance de la planifi cation, de la mise en œuvre, du fi nancement, de la gestion, du suivi et de l'évaluation de programmes. En dépit de ces compétences adminis-tratives solides, je sers le peuple namibien avec dévouement en tant que membre du Parlement depuis 10 ans. Je suis sous-ministre de la Jeunesse depuis 2010 et j’ai été muté au Ministère de la Santé avec le même mandat depuis 2015.

Her Excellency Mrs Toyin Saraki

Mrs Toyin Saraki was appointed Inaugural Global Goodwill Ambassa-dor to the International Confederation of Midwives in 2014, taking on the responsibility of advocating for the improved recognition of the roles, rights and remuneration of the midwifery profession, globally.

As Founder-President of The Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA) in special consultative status to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations and as a Board Observer and Mem-ber of the WHO Partnership For Maternal Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH), Mrs. Toyin Saraki is a Nigerian advocate for women’s and children’s health and empowerment, with two decades of advocacy covering reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health; ending gender-based discrimination and violence; and im-proving education, socio-economic empowerment, and community livelihoods in sub-Saharan Africa. As a fi rm believer of midwife-cen-tred maternity care, the WBFA’s fl agship antenatal and postnatal MamaCare, EmONC Skills Improvement and Alive and Thrive Nutri-tion programs are delivered through a team of 74 midwives across 655 health care facilities in Nigeria. Mrs. Saraki a member of the International Steering Committee of the International Conference on Population and Development, also serves as Special Adviser to the Independent Advisory Group (IAG) of the World Health Organisation's (WHO) Regional Offi ce for Afri-ca (AFRO). Named by Devex as UHC Global Champion, Toyin Ojora Saraki is the Save the Children Newborn Health Champion for Nige-ria; and is a Global Champion for the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood. Her marriage to Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, 13th Sena-te President and Former Chairman of the 8th Assembly of the Fede-ral Republic of Nigeria, has been blessed with four children.

Her Excellency Mrs. Amira Elfadil Mohammed Elfadil Commissioner for Social Affairs, African Union Commission, Sudan

Her Excellency Amira Elfadil was elected as the Commissioner for So-cial Affairs at the 28th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Afri-can Union in 2017. Before being elected as Commissioner she served the Government of the Republic of the Sudan as Minister of Welfare and Social Security between 2010 and 2013 and as Minister for Social Affairs for the Khartoum State Government between 2009 and 2010. She served as Member of Parliament and was on the Foreign Rela-tions Committee from 2015 until she assumed her current role. With her passion in addressing children, girls and women’s empowerment issues, she has held various senior roles in the Sudanese Women General Union, was Director General of the Society Studies Centre in Khartoum and Secretary General in the Sudan National Council for Child Welfare in addition to chairing various committees and boards on social development.

She brings to the Commission a wealth of experience as a veteran politician, a renowned activist for women’s rights and empowerment, an ardent advocate for the rights and welfare of the child, and a well-known campaigner for health, youth empowerment, education and poverty eradication. With a results oriented leadership approach she has contributed to the strengthening of various social institutions in the Sudan. Her vision is to provide sound leadership, to strengthen the prioritisation of national social policies, to promote human em-powerment and development towards a prosperous Africa based on inclusive growth and sustainable development. Her focus is to contribute to the achievement of the social development aspects of Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Her Excellency Amira Elfadil holds a Master of Arts in Diplomatic Studies from the London Diplomatic Academy at the University of the Westminster and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the Univer-sity of Khartoum. Born in 1967 she is a citizen of the Republic of the Sudan and is married with four children. Arabic is a mother tongue while English is used as a second language.

Son Excellence, Amira Elfadil, a été élue en tant que commissionnaire aux Affaires Sociales lors de la 28ème Session Ordinaire de l’Assemblée de l’Union Africaine en 2017. Avant d’être élue en tant que commission-naire, elle a servi le Gouvernement de la République du Soudan en tant que Ministre des affaires sociales et de la sécurité sociale, entre 2010 et 2013 ; mais aussi en tant que Ministre des affaires sociales pour le gouvernement de l’état du Khartoum entre 2009 et 2010. Elle a servi en tant que membre du Parlement et faisait partie du Comité des Rela-tions Etrangères depuis 2015 jusqu’à ce qu’elle endosse son rôle actuel. Avec sa passion pour aborder les questions d’autonomisation des en-fants, des fi lles et des femmes, elle a tenu différents postes de direction au sein de l’Union Générale des Femmes du Soudan, elle fut directrice générale du Centre des Etudes Sociales à Khartoum, et secrétaire gé-nérale du Conseil Nationale Soudanais pour la Protection de l’Enfance, en plus de présider divers comités et conseils de développement social.

Elle apporte à la Commission une riche expérience en tant que politi-cienne chevronnée, militante reconnue pour les droits des femmes et leur autonomisation, une ardente défenseuse des droits et de la pro-tection des enfants et une militante bien connue pour la santé, l'auto-nomisation des jeunes, l'éducation et l’éradication de la pauvreté. Avec une approche de leadership orientée sur les résultats, elle a contribué à renforcer plusieurs institutions sociales au Soudan. Sa vision est de fournir un leadership solide, de renforcer la priorisation des politiques sociales nationales, de promouvoir l’autonomisation humaine et le développement vers une Afrique prospère basée sur une croissance inclusive et un développement durable. Son but est de contribuer à l’achèvement des aspects de développement social de l’Agenda 2063 et des objectifs de développement durable.

Son Excellence Amira Elfadil possède un Master of Arts in Diplomatic Studies de l’Académie Diplomatique de Londres, obtenu à l’Université de Westminster, ainsi qu’une Licence des Arts en Sociologie de l’Uni-versité de Khartoum. Through the years I have developed myself as a competent enthusias-tic midwife/advisor on international maternal health, women’s issues and twinning in healthcare. With my anthropological and midwifery background plus personal experience of growing up and/or working in Pakistan and Sudan, UK, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Morocco and the Netherlands, I am well aware of the scope, cultural context and reali-ties of the fi eld.

Projects that I have initiated, developed, managed and evaluated have involved a broad spectrum of skills from initiating innovative methods of cooperation, fundraising and fi nancial management and evaluation research to managing large groups of (women) volunteers.

My strongest quality is to be well informed, think strategically and in-volve, motivate and enthuse others with a mixture of lateral thinking, hard work and realism.

Au fi l des années, je suis devenue une sage-femme et conseillère compétente et enthousiaste en santé maternelle internationale, en questions concernant les femmes, et en twinning dans le domaine de la santé. Mon expérience en pratique sage-femme et anthropolo-gie en plus de mon expérience personnelle d'avoir grandit et travaillé au Pakistan, au Soudan, Royaume Uni, Tanzanie, Sierra Leone, Maroc et les Pays Bas, je suis bien consciente de la portée, du contexte cultu-rel et des réalités sur le terrain. Les projets que j'ai initiés, développés, gérés et évalués ont impliqué un large éventail de compétencesdepuis le lancement de méthodes innovatives de coopération, la gestion de collecte de fonds et de fi -nancement, et la recherche sur l'évaluation pour la gestion de grands groupes de (femmes) volontaires.

Ma plus grande qualité est d’être bien informée, de penser de ma-nière stratégique et d’impliquer, motiver et enthousiasmer les autres avec un mélange de pensées latérales, un travail acharné et du réa-lisme.

Héloïse Adjowa Adandogou-D'Almeida President of FASFAF and ASSAFETO, Togo

After working as a state midwife in both health centres in rural zones and references hospitals, Mrs. ADANDOGOU Adjowa Héloïse, wife of ALMEIDA, is now retired. During her thirty-four years of practicing, she never stopped following the evolution of her profession, and con-tinued to acquire new competences all along her career.

She graduated in 1999 with Higher Technician of Health in Teaching and Administration Diploma, in the National School of Social and Health Development, in Dakar, Senegal and was in charge of theo-retical and practical courses of "Presentations in Obstetrics and Mid-wifery" at the National School of Midwives of Togo.

From 2003 to her retirement in 2018, she was in charge of teaching as well as practical supervision of midwives’ students.

As the head of the ASSAFETO since May 2012 Madame d'ALMEIDA worked hard towards making the practice of midwifery more visible and more effi cient in her country. She put her expertise at the service of projects and programs related to the health of reproduction, and maternal and child health, through consultancy.

She is a co-author of the collective work "Midwives in the Fran-cophonie Silent Witnesses of Life ... and Death" (Under the direction of Marie Hatem), she is the President of the Network of CSO, involved in SR-FP in Togo, and President of the Federation of Midwives Asso-ciations of Francophone Africa since July 2018.

Après avoir exercé la profession de sage-femme d’Etat dans les centres de santé en zone rurale comme dans les hôpitaux de réfé-rence, Madame ADANDOGOU Adjowa Héloïse épouse d’ALMEIDA est désormais à la retraite. Au cours de ses trente quatre années de carrière, elle a continué à acquérir les compétences pour suivre l’évo-lution de la profession.

En charge des cours théorique et pratique des « Présentations en Obstétrique » à l’Ecole Nationale de Sages-femmes du Togo, elle dé-croche en 1999 le Diplôme de Technicienne Supérieure de Santé en Enseignement et Administration à l’Ecole Nationale de Développe-ment Sociale et Sanitaire (ENDSS) de Dakar (Sénégal). De 2003 à son admission à la retraite fi n 2018, elle est en charge des cours et de l’en-cadrement pratique des élèves Sages-femmes.

A la tête de l’ASSAFETO depuis mai 2012 Madame d’ALMEIDA travaille à rendre plus visible et plus effi ciente la pratique de la Sage-femme dans son pays, tout en mettant son expertise au service de projets et programmes liés à la santé de la reproduction et la santé maternelle et infantile, à travers la consultance.

Co auteure de l’ouvrage collectif « Les Sages-femmes dans la Franco-phonie Témoins Silencieuses de la vie… et de la mort » (Sous la direc-tion de Marie Hatem) elle est Présidente du Réseau des OSC inter-venant dans la SR-PF au Togo et Présidente depuis juillet 2018 de la Fédération des Associations des Sages-femmes de l’Afrique Franco-phone (FASFAF).

Julitta Onabanjo Regional Director for UNFPA East and Southern Africa

Dr. Onabanjo joined UNFPA in 1995 as a National Programme Offi cer and thereafter as a Programme Specialist in Swaziland and Kenya, before she served at UNFPA Headquarters as Technical Advisor, HIV/AIDS, and later as Special Assistant to the Executive Director. More recently, she has held UNFPA Representative posts in Tanzania and in South Africa.

Before joining UNFPA, Dr. Onabanjo worked for Planned Parenthood as Programme Director and prior to this, she worked for the Ministry of Health in Nigeria.

Dr. Onabanjo holds a Bachelor’s Degree in biology from the Univer-sity of London and a Medical Doctor degree from the University of Zambia, in addition to a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Julitta Onabanjo directrice régionale du FNUAP (UNFPA) pour l'Afrique orientale et australe

Dr Onabanjo a rejoint le FNUAP en 1995 en tant qu'Administrateur du Programme national, puis spécialiste de programme au Swaziland et au Kenya, avant de travailler au siège du FNUAP en tant que conseil-lère technique pour le VIH / sida, puis en qualité d'Assistante spéciale du Directeur général. Plus récemment, elle a occupé des postes de Représentatrice du FNUAP en Tanzanie et en Afrique du Sud.

Avant de rejoindre l'UNFPA, Mme Onabanjo a travaillé pour Planned Parenthood en tant que directrice de programme et pour le Ministère de la Santé du Nigéria.

Le Dr Onabanjo est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en biologie de l’Université de Londres et d’un doctorat en médecine de l’Université de Zambie, ainsi que d’une maîtrise en santé publique de la London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

ICM Essential Care for Labor and Birth (ECL & B) workshop

open only for pre-registered participantsIn response to midwives’ requests for clinical skills training during regional conferences, ICM is facilitating a one-day pre-conference training in the recently released Helping Mothers Survive (HMS) module, Essential Care for Labor and Birth (ECL&B).A team of seven trainers, all experienced midwives and Helping Mothers Survive/Helping Babies Survive Master Trainers will train participants using simulation and printed resources provided by Laerdal Global Health and developed by Jhpiego. This is an interactive, hands-on, small group training, with participants provided time for practice, discussion and role-play. The international training team consists of eight experienced midwives: two ICM staff, (from Australia and Malawi), three 50, 000 Happy Birthdays Project Managers (from Ethio-pia, Rwanda and Tanzania), two Laerdal Global Health and one Jhpiego Technical Specialists (from Sweden, Ethiopia and Tanzania). The HMS Essential Care for Labor and Birth module covers the following:

• Respectful Maternity Care• Infection Prevention• Special Considerations for Normal Labor

and Birth (breech, twin, HIV/TB/Syphilis, FGM)

• Rapid Assessment/Quick Check/Danger signs

• History/Estimating Gestational Age (GA) and Expected Date of Delivery (EDD)

BANKING SERVICES AND CURRENCYCurrency controlThere are no limits on the amount of cash that visitors can bring into Namibia. However, some countries have limits on the export of bank notes and visitors are therefore advised to con-vert most of their money to traveler’s cheques. The necessary permit should be obtained from the First National Bank of Namibia (FNB) (the central bank of Namibia) if visitors wish to leave the country with more than N$ 10 000 in cash in their possession. Import of foreign currency is free, subject to declaration. Export of foreign currency is limited to the amount that the visi-tor declared upon arrival. For more information, contact any Customs and Excise Offi ce.BankingBanks, change offi ces, and Auto banks (ATM's, automated teller machines) are found in most towns and operate on a 24 hour basis. Shopping hours vary but most shops at shopping malls are open from 9:00 to 19:00 Monday to Friday and from 9:00 to 17:00 on Sat-urdays. Generally, shops are open on Sundays between 9:00 to 14:00.

Les visiteurs qui traversent ou débarquent dans ces zones d'endémie de la fi èvre jaune sont tenus de se faire vacciner contre la maladie avant d'entrer en Namibie.

IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTSYellow FeverThe Namibian Department of Health reviewed its yellow fever vaccination requirements policy, which have been effective from 01 October 2011. In terms of both the Namibian Department of Health and World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines and policies pertaining to Yellow Fe-ver, a Vaccination Certifi cate from travelers over one year of age entering Namibia from yellow fever endemic regions is required. Visitors who travel through or disembark in these Yellow Fe-ver Endemic areas are required to be vaccinated against the disease before entering Namibia.List of countries for which a yellow fever vac-cination certifi cate is required for entry into Namibia: Angola; United Republic of Tanzania; Democratic Republic of Congo; Zambia.MalariaThe conference venue, Safari Court Hotel and Conference Centre as well as the Khomas Re-gion, is Malaria free. If you plan to travel out-side the region be aware of Malaria areas in the country. If you plan further travels in a Malaria zone, consult your travel doctor to prescribe the most appropriate anti-Malaria agent for your purposes. Health Care: Travel InsuranceAs with all international travel, it is strongly ad-vised that delegates are adequately covered by international health insurance for the duration of the meeting. Delegates are therefore in-formed that they should obtain medical travel insurance from a reputable organization. Such insurance will ensure a trouble-free trip should medical treatment be required. Delegates are further advised that medical treatment at private facilities in Namibia is expensive, with public facilities also levying charges for services rendered.

PRESENTATIONS You are kindly asked to submit your presen-tation at least 90 minutes before the session starts to an assistant in the room, where your presentation will take place, who will upload it to a computer. Then you can control your own slideshow using the remote control. If any prob-lems occur, there will be assisting staff in each lecture room.The presentations must be delivered to the rooms during coffee and lunch breaks or in the morning before the program starts.

SMOKING POLICYSmoking is prohibited in virtually all indoor public places and indoor workplaces, and on all means of public transportation. Smoking is also prohibited in certain outdoor areas including: (1) outdoor areas of private dwellings used for any commercial childcare activity or for school-ing or tutoring; and (2) outdoor areas a distance of two meters from windows, ventilation inlets, and entrances and exits of public places and workplaces. Some restaurants have designated smoking areas.

TAXI/ TRANSPORTATION Inter – City Transfer: Provision has been made specifi c for the con-ference. For intercity transfers, it will be N$80.00 per person. If there are groups of two or more, it will be N$50.00 per person. Shared taxis and minibusesIn towns, there are no real bus services, however in Windhoek the function of a bus service is op-erated by local taxis. These are generally sedan cars, in varying states of repair, which operate along designated routes – they operate on a shared basis so do not be surprised when your driver suddenly stops to pick up extra fares. The shared taxis can be identifi ed by a blue mark-ing at the rear window and doors consisting of a letter and numbersThere are also traditional metered taxis, gener-ally thought to be safer and exclusively for your private use. For these, delegates can download the LEFA Mobile App where they can call for a taxi online.

L'importation de devises étrangères est libre, sous réserve d’une déclaration. L'exporta-tion de devises étrangères est limitée au mon-tant déclaré par le visiteur à son arrivée. S'il y a deux groupes ou plus, le montant sera de 50 dollars namibiens par personne.Taxis et minibus partagésDans les villes, il n’existe pas de véritable service de bus. Cependant, à Windhoek, les taxis locaux assurent le fonctionnement d’un service de bus. Ce sont généralement des berlines, dans différents états, qui circulent sur des routes désignées. Elles fonctionnent sur une base commune. Ne soyez donc pas surpris si votre conducteur s’arrête soudainement pour ache-ter des billets supplémentaires. Les taxis parta-gés peuvent être identifi és par un marquage bleu à la fenêtre arrière et aux portes, compo-sée d’une lettre et de chiffres.Il existe également des taxis à compteur tra-ditionnels, généralement considérés comme plus sûrs et destinés exclusivement à votre usage privé.
