Clean Sweep for Alex Schutte at Petaluma Speedway June 11, 2016Story by Kevin Triplett (http://triplettseyeoncars.blogspot.com) Statiscics by Linda Manning The mighty Bay Cities Racing Association (BCRA) midgets visited the 3/8-mile dirt oval Peta-luma Speedway last Saturday night June 11. Alex Schutte in his family’s #38 Esslinger-powered Spike chassis achieved the “clean sweep” after he set the fast time in qualifying, scored a victory in his heat race, and then ran away with the feature race win by more than five seconds over of his nearest competitor. The previous week’s race winner at Watsonville Speedway, Dustin Golobic, suffered the mis-fortune of an engine failure during warm-ups and was forced to scratch for the evening. The winner of the second seven-car eight-lap heat race was Taylor Simas in the sister car to Golobic’s entry. Robert Dalby chased Schutte across the line at the end of the 30-lap feature race which was run without a caution flag, followed by Britton Bock and young Cory Elliott. The author was very impressed at how efficiently the evening’s racing program was run. With four class-es in action, the racing program began on time, and then progressed quickly and ended at a reasonable time. In this era of multi-class racing programs that often run late into the night, the track promoter, the officials, the sanctioning bodies, and the competitors are all to be complemented for the evening’s brevity. GOLOBIC TOPS WATSONVILLE MIDGET FIELDBy Floyd Busby

WATSONVILLE, CA., JUNE 3: Dustin Golobic stormed to the win at the Ocean Speedway in the Bay Cities Racing Association midget feature, taking the lead on the fourth-lap from his outside second row starting berth. Golobic powered by early leader Terre Rothweiler to take the lead aboard the Doug Bock Spike/Esslinger in turn-one, as Rothweiler’s Chris Walker Spike/Esslinger settled into sec-ond-place, with Maria Cofer running third aboard her John Cofer Spike/Esslinger. Greg Bragg moved the Thurston Spike/Esslinger into the fourth spot as eighth-starting Randi Pankratz tucked in to run fifth aboard her Edmunds/Fontana. Seemingly from nowhere, Brian Gard began his climb forward, driving the Storcks Garage Ellis/Chevy, to take the sixth position by the 12th lap when the only caution flag was waved for a stalled Bragg at the end of the backstraight. At the green, the aggressive Gard took fourth, then passed two cars for second as sec-ond-running Rothweiler succumbed to handling problems and began dropping positions. Gard began reeling in the flying leader and by the 24th round was in challenging position. As the front-running duo exited turn-four on the 27th lap, Golobic made a sudden move to the outside as he encountered about-to-be=lapped Rothwediler, sending his car skirting toward the outside crashwall. This sudden move forced Gard to back off and while Golobic retained control, Gard lost valuable ground to the leader, finishing the 30-lapper nose-to-tail behind Golobic. Pankratz crossed the line in third over Cofer and Taylor Simas with Bobby Wilson in sixth. Floyd Alvis and Rothweiler followed one-lap down. Heat race winners were Simas and Gard.MAIN: 1.
